Translation is complete, done a bit earlier than normal since it’s the weekend so I didn’t have to wait until after work.  4-koma comics from the end of volume 24 are also included.

Next chapter comes out on 1/6/22.

One of the reasons why the fans of the series consider Noragami as one of the finest work existed in the manga industry is because of how the authors included important social issues into their world of fiction that is Noragami. The concept of God and Regalia is more than just a master with their tool eradicating evil but the relationship between them is a lot deeper and significant to the story. When a wandering spirit is named, or recruited, by a God, not only are their lives connected but so do their emotions and memories. However, it only goes one way: from the Regalia to their God, so only the God can witness their Regalia’s mortal memories and also feel their emotions while the named spirits can’t do the same with their God nor can they even remember their own past as learning about them could lead to their demise.

Keeping that in mind, out of all Regalia in the series, one particular character’s past intrigues me and probably strikes the most heart-breaking and cruel. Yukine is Yato’s Regalia who he named at the beginning of the story. Yukine is a spirit who died at the age of 14 years old due to domestic abuse and murder by his abusive alcoholic father. After his mother and sister left him with his father, he was forbidden to keep in contact with them but he still tried to send as many letter as he could to his sister until one day, he was caught by his father. Yukine’s father beat him senselessly afterwards but instead of sending him to the hospital, he went into the mountains and abandoned his severely injured and bruised body in a forsaken refrigerator.

For the rest of his human life after his mother and sister left, not only did Yukine suffered from physical abuse but also malnutrition and stress which explains why he has such a delicately smaller frame than an average 14 years old. Like the second image above, Yukine had witnessed fragmented memories of his past whenever he encounters a traumatizing event from when he last saw the light of day.

By portraying Yukine as a victim of child abuse, AdachiToka utilized this character to spread awareness of this issue and highlight the importance of helping those who are in need but are too afraid to reach out to people for help. Additionally, negligence and ignorance are also to blame for this recurring problem in which the authors have also touched on in Yukine’s story. After learning about his past, instead of being consumed by the Phantoms, he ignited with rage and hunger for revenge against his father.

This made me think about something else, though. If the Tsukuyomi theory is correct (and I still think that it is), then this piece of dialogue has an extra layer. I’m of the opinion that Father found a newly reincarnated Tsukuyomi, concealed his true name and imprinted the Yaboku identity on him (I wrote a post that mentions that a few years ago). It could be that, once Father dies, the Yaboku identity will truly die with him and the Tsukuyomi identity that has been suppressed for so long will finally reveal itself. Which explains why Father seems so terrified when Yato says that piece of dialogue.

I think these panels symbolize the first time Father is seeing Yato as a fucking adult instead of a little kid he can push around (since its the same clothes Yato would always wear as a child) and that's why he's actually terrified
