This is so random but it's been at the back of my mind for awhile.
I understand a lot of Raoul fans think that Erik is guilt tripping Christine when he sings "take me, save me from my solitude" in Point of No Return compared to when Raoul sings "let me save you from your solitude" in That's All I Ask of You. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure That's All I Ask of You is written by Erik?? Which is why in the reprise he says "I gave you my music"
I think that he uses this to emphasise the big difference between the Phantom and Raoul, and how they are complete opposites, for example how Erik has lived his life in solitude, poverty, and under constant discrimination. While Raoul is rich, and has seemingly never had a hardship, constantly receiving what he wants. Phantom is deemed unattractive while Raoul is seen as attractive, their hair are contrasting colours as well.
I'm unsure if it's on purpose, but I find it very interesting how Webber pushed the agenda of how in the end the more privileged one wins it all. Although, he does manage to still portray the phantom in a way that garners pity despite his atrocities.
