A horror mission. It was really happening. The excitement Minkyung had felt when she had first heard about it had been hard to hide because she had always secretly wished for a mission like that. She wasnât extraordinarily brave at all, she just really liked horror in general. From time to time, she would force her unnie to watch horror movies with her, and although sheâd always be scared throughout the entire movie, she enjoyed the thrill that came with it.
Standing in front of the school they were supposed to film the mission in, her excitement quickly subsided though. It all seemed so real, like they were now in one of those horror movies as those silly teenagers who walked right into danger for the thrill and in the end all except for one would end up dead. The thought made her shiver and she wrapped her arms around herself, until she was handed a folder that she hoped would provide her with some distraction.
Sadly it only made things worse. Reading about the life of the boy whose death she and her partner, Tao, were supposed to investigate only made everything seem all the more real and not staged at all, and her hands started shaking slightly. There was nothing she could do about it, although she tried not to let it show. Her partner seemed anything but sure of himself as well, which was why she decided to at least try and put on a brave face to make it easier for the both of them. Davichi didnât get the chance to participate in shows like these often, so she mustnât screw up.
The time to enter the school came all too soon. Minkyung drew in one last shaky breath before walking towards it with her partner, flashing him a small smile that she hoped would look authentic. Once the door fell shut behind them again, she stopped immediately though, already feeling like going back outside. It was mostly dark and the cold air only made the goosebumps she already had all over her body worse. The silence made any sounds she did hear seem scary because she didnât knowâand probably didnât want to knowâwhere they came from. Thus she decided to break it by talking. âI guess we should go to the library since thatâs where our student was found⊠but where is the library?â A cracking sound could be heard and it took all her willpower not to let out a yelp. âLetâs just⊠letâs go upstairs.â It seemed like a logical decision for her, because the hallways she could see on the floor they were on right now were all dark and she definitely wasnât going downstairs either, so upstairs it was.
Looping her arm around her partnerâs without caring about whether that would make him uncomfortable or notâshe needed someone next to her at the momentâ,she walked towards the stairs, then upwards, one foot after another. On the one hand, she really wanted to take this slow and to look around ten times before going somewhere to avoid being shocked too often, but on the other hand the producers had said it would get worse at 3AM and she really didnât want to risk being caught in⊠whatever would happen then.Â

Yura didnât have to wait too long for her unnieâs reply. Skillfully opening her inbox, she checked her messages with a huge grin. She couldnât help but chuckle at Minkyungâs cute choice of the lamp â which she would obviously agree since it was indeed cute. It would fit their bedroom quite nicely. Typing another reply, she asked her to meet in front of the store so both could present their findings. Yura took a few other items along the way â a white gorgeous carpet, a few colored pillows, a beautiful vase and other decorations she found it would fit the livingâs room atmosphere. Luckily there was a shopping car near and she carefully placed all the stuff sheâs got, always checking if their budget could handle. In a wide grin, she turned to the camera along the way. âOur living room will be so cute.â She chuckled and continued. âIâve never tried furnishing before, thatâs something new to me. I hope we managed to complete the mission successfully.â A short later, she arrived at the entrance, checking each item one by one. Yura stood on her tiptoes and raised a hand to her forehead, squinting her eyes while looking for her partner.
Happily and as excited as a 5 old little girl on Disneyland, Yura waved a hand as soon as she noticed Minkyung around. âUnnie, right here!â she waved. She couldnât wait to show her friendâs each of her choices and start placing each item on its own place inside the house. It would be tiring after all, but the results would be definitely worth. Perhaps the heaviest furnitures they could let reserved to deliver in the next days. She had to discuss it entirely with her partner. âShall we go back to Moon Town?â, she suggested. The earlier they started furnishing the house, the better. They could even start enjoying the placeâs features â such as the pool, or even the TV when they get there. Yura peeked outside the store and grinned. Gladly, there was a car waiting for them to take both to Moon Town. âIâm gonna pay for the stuff, okay? And let the beds, couch and tv reserved to get delivered as soon as possible.â She smiled and winked at Minkyung. Yura was a kind of a girl that would take initiative on things instinctively. She usually hurried without waiting for everyoneâs else answer, and would end up laughing when most part didnât agree with her decision. That was Yura.
Slowly yet energetically as always, she headed towards the big balcony to pay, placing the money Yue Laoâs show lent them to decorate the house. It wasnât a lot, but she definitely knew it would be more than enough. After several minutes negotiating, somehow she managed to bring along some of the attendant guys to help them placing the heaviest items in the house. Finally, she returned to where she left the shopping cart and her partner and raised an accomplished fist. âReady to go? We have lots of work yet to do.â She chuckled, linking both her arm along with Minkyungâs before leaving the store together.
Nodding in confirmation of the text she received in reply, Minkyung slid her phone back into her bag and went back to looking for other things theyâd need, this time with more determination. It was always hard not to get sidetracked though, because there were endless things to see and so many things she really wanted to buy but knew she couldnât because they had a low budget after all. In the end she somehow managed to decide on a few more items, cute pillows and bedclothes she just couldnât pass up on among them.
Once again asking the friendly male employee for help, she made her way back to the entrance to meet up with her partner, an accomplished grin turning her eyes into slits. âIâm really not good at thisâ, she said in the direction of the camera, âReally really. So I feel even better about having succeeded now. Definitely excited.â Her enthusiasm made her words come out more quickly than she had originally planned, but she made up for it with an even brighter smile she flashed the viewers out there.
Seeing her enthusiasm mirrored in Yuraâs wave, Minkyung giggled lightly but lifted her own hand to wave back energetically, picking up her pace so she was jogging over to her. âThat sounds like a good idea. Weâll probably need a while to finish putting everything up where we want it.â Her tongue briefly wetted her lower lip and she nodded, more serious now. They were at a slight disadvantage because they were a same gender couple and so they had no manly muscles to help them but the more she thought about it the less important that seemed. With their charms they could surely get someone to help them or call a friend, even, she had many male friends after all. Apart from that, some of the guys she had seen around looked pretty scrawny as well, so they probably couldnât lift much more than she could either.
When she was done with her musings, Yura had already paid for everything. âThank you so muchâ was all that she could offer as thanks. It was good that she had been paired up with someone who took the initiative to actually get things done because more often than not Minkyung herself would get lost in daydreams or distracted by anything that could be seen as interesting, which would certainly make completing a mission in time harder if no one else would tell her what to do or do things on their own.
âAs ready as can be!â Minkyung replied enthusiastically, quickly walking towards the car that was waiting for them, a slight skip in her steps. The later it got the more hyped up she was and as this was a new experience entirely, she was thrilled to learn something for her future too because one day sheâd definitely move out and then sheâd have to furnish a completely empty house too.
Taking one thing after another out of the cart and placing it into the car, she huffed. âThese things look all light and cute and pretty when you see them, but when you actually have to move them, they turn out being really heavy⊠Ya, we should have called Soohyun and Woohyun to help us.âÂ
The night was settling in and darkness had fallen over Moon Town. A peaceful silence accompanied her as Minkyung made her way back home from a quick trip to the grocery store because she had craved ice cream all of a sudden. The streets were dimly lit by a few street lamps scattered along the way and she hummed to herself because she wasnât fond of the quiet when it was dark. All of a sudden, she made out a silhouette standing below one of the lamps and she almost let out a scream before reminding herself that they were safe in Moon Town, and that it could only be a staff or cast member because no one else was allowed inside.
A small but unsure smile curved her lips and she quickly approached the person. âHello?â When the person turned around upon being spoken to, Minkyung recognized it to be her friend and current partner immediately and she raised a brow in confusion. She could swear that the other girl had been asleep when she had left to buy ice cream. Apart from that though, what worried her was that Yura wore a pretty flimsy outfit to be out this late in the cold spring air, and so she quickly wrapped an arm around her shoulder and pulled her along back towards their house. âWhat are you doing outside, pabo-yah?â When they reached the house and she got to turn on the light, any more teasing words remained lodged in her throat though, and she was left speechless as she stared at her friend. Yura looked lost in thought, sad, worn out. There were tears in her eyes, but it was hard to tell if they were from the wind blowing into them or if they were actual tears of sadness. âWhatâs wrong?â Her voice was soft but firm at the same time, demanding an answer. Minkyung couldnât stand it when one of her friends wasnât feeling alright, and she felt the urge to punish whoever was responsible for it.

The more words she heard the more she understood the situation, and when she finally realized completely what was going on, she had to bite her lip to keep them from forming a grin. Yura missed Soohyun and worried about him. That was what was happening. It was true that he hadnât been around much at all since the opening ceremony, or at least Minkyung thought so since she hadnât seen him around Moon Town at all while she had met everyone else already, but she had just assumed that was because he was busy preparing for something. U-KISS were always pretty busy as far as she knew.
âEy, itâs not like heâs cheating on you or anything. Heâs probably just busy.â Minkyungâs words had the effect she had hoped theyâd have because Yuraâs cheeks turned red and this time the older girl didnât even try to hide her grin. It lasted only for a few seconds though, because she used the chance to say a few serious words too. âAlthough I think itâs good that you feel this way. Miss him. See that itâs different when heâs not around. That way youâll never take him for granted, which is good.â Clapping her hands, she moved on. âNow, you should stop thinking about it. Heâll be back here in no time, probably to take you on some date or another. And thatâs why you need your sleep now because we donât want you to have bags under your eyes when he does, right?âÂ
Deep inside, Minkyung knew that she was expecting too much. That she had expected too much from the start. But that was who she was, a greedy person when it came to love, not willing to share with anyone. It had never worked well with her profession. Never before had she announced one of her relationships to the public, but this time she couldnât help but want to, to feel like she had the right to.
It hadnât been like that when they had first started dating. He was a member of EXO after all, one of the boygroups she currently kept hearing about the most, and she knew fully well that admitting that he was in a relationship could possibly ruin his career, and she loved him, she loved him dearly, seeing him unhappy was the last thing she wanted. She knew how hard he had worked to become an idol, how hard everyone had to work to make it there, and who was she to ask him to put that on the line for her, for a romance that could very well be fleeting?
The thought had first crossed her mind a year into their relationship, when she had realized that it was not just attraction or a fleeting feeling, when she realized that he was the last thing on her mind at night and her first thought in the morning, the one person who could make all her worries vanish with a single touch, the person sheâd think of before, during and after performances, the one boy she felt confident taking home to meet her family. But she hadnât entertained the thought for long, because they were still both idols, at the peak of their careers, and neither should be taking risks. They could be happy like this, meeting in secret, hiding their feelings, and answering questions regarding their relationship status with a âIâm focusing on my career right nowâ, as long as theyâd get to be together.
After another year came and went, she was sick of it though. Sick of not being able to go out with him in public, to tell the world that she was the lucky girl who got to fall asleep in his arms from time to time, who got to kiss those lips she knew thousands were staring at regularly. She was sick of having to be on her guard every step she took when she was about to meet up with him because his fans were ever vigilant, and sick of hearing him say he wasnât interested in anyone at the moment in interviews. She was sick of seeing fans ship him with other idols on the internet, and sick of the way other females would look at him lovingly, not even trying to hide that they were attempting to flirt because he was single after all. Available. Unattached.
That was when she decided to confront him⊠and when it escalated. He wasnât the type to get angry, but she had a temper, and it had come to a point where his calmness only made her more angry, and they fought and fought and fought until Minkyung just stopped pacing and stared at him. So did he, stare quietly. And she turned and left. He didnât hold her back. They wanted different things, were at different points in the relationship. He was perfect right down to the core, but she had finally realized that he wasnât perfect for her. Her own imperfections cut him, caused scratches on the flawless surface of his being, and she realized that heâd never be able to give her what she needed. It was not what he was made of. She was an angry storm, rumbling thunder and pouring rain while he was made of sugar, and she wasnât going to risk destroying him.

Already halfway out of the building, Minkyung was stopped by fingers wrapping around her wrist and pulling her backwards into those familiar arms, and then stillness followed. Neither of them moved and the only thing that could be heard was their steady breathing, echoing of the walls of the empty hallway. It all happened quickly afterwards. Before she knew what was happening, he was down on one knee, a ring extended towards her. âI wasnât going to do this yet but⊠Iâm willing to make it official. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Weâll have to learn it all again, how to date with the public always having an eye on us, and how to deal with the criticism weâll receive, and with our differences⊠but I want to try. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, Kang Minkyung?â
