The Man
My legs swung back and forth, in and out of the cavity below the plastic seat that was fixed to the side panel of the train. A faint hum and the occasional buzz of the fluorescent light overhead greeted my keen ears.
Directly adjacent to me sat a man with a notebook. Every other moment he would flip the leather bound cover open and haphazardly scribble something down before shaking his head and shutting it again.
The compartment reeked of stale ideas and failure to procure a concept that was profound enough to call his own. While his presence was deeply unsettling, it also brought a sense of comfort. Knowing that I was not alone in my soul wrenching search for originality.
