"Trans women are actually women for real, not in a metaphorical sense, not in a "anyone can be anything" sense, but genuinely actually make more taxonomic sense to classify in the category of women than any other group you could classify them in" is a position you'll find is pretty radical even in queer spaces
I recently posed a question to my cis followers on Bsky about whether they could defend the idea that trans women are in fact women.
The overwhelming response was, while well-meaning, sorely disappointing and along the lines of "of course trans women are women, 'woman' is ultimately a meaningless category, you can be whatever you like".
It was such a profoundly sobering experience because I realized that most people have framed their conception of trans rights around owning bigots and dunking on them in arguments instead of an affirmative understanding of trans marginalization, a comprehension of the struggles we face in a cissexist, patriarchal society, or even a basic familiarity with how we are seen and regarded and treated institutionally.
'Woman' is not a meaningless category in a patriarchy. It is a positionality, one that trans women undoubtedly occupy, and most cis people--even allies, even the ones who believe they want to do right by us--do not fundamentally accept the premise that we actually inhabit this position and navigate society as women.
It's an epistemic chasm I don't quite know how to cross, which is unfortunate as I've inadvertently dedicated my life to doing so. Ascertaining just how wide that gap in understanding is was alarming, if necessary.
To cis readers, all I can say is that if you only think trans women can be women in a world where the word 'woman' holds no meaning, you're more aligned with the Gender-Conservative position on us than you think. You might want to unpack that.
I swear I didn't want to write these words out of shame and embarrassment, but what happened to us in the Gaza Strip—the destruction, the genocide, the starvation of the people—is beyond imagination. My older brother, who was our provider, was killed by a treacherous bullet to the head. He was our only support, the one who provided us with food, and now we go to bed hungry, ravaged by the hunger that has consumed our bodies.
A few months later, my mother died from cancer that ravaged her body. We couldn't find her any treatment, medicine, food, or clean water until she passed away from the intense pain and hunger.
Now it's just me, my brother, and my father. We can't find the food and medicine I need because I suffer from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which causes me to have difficulty breathing and choke in the middle of the night. Please donate; we need $450 to buy the necessary medication. I don't want what happened to my mother to happen to me. Please donate. 😭😭💔

Why are you letting us down? Are we just numbers in a death register? Every night is harder than the last. Please donate, we only need $435. Please don't let us down, donate! 😭😭💔
The Watermelon Woman (1996) dir. Cheryl Dunye
Hey this movie is really important in queer history! It was the first feature length film directed by a black lesbian! You can watch it here for free!
I really recommend you do because while it is a rom-com (and a drama), it also looks at how the stories of black queers are over looked in history.
personally I am of the opinion that vegans who are like “the way our food system currently works under capitalism on a large scale is exceptionally cruel to all animals including humans and is not sustainable, so I’m doing what I can to make the most ethical choices available to me about what I eat and encourage others to do the same” are generally very reasonable people who I agree with in spades. but vegans who seem to think human beings are not themselves animals who are ultimately also part of the food chain but instead some kind of other paternalistic higher entity that can never engage in ethical and sustainable hunting practices (and especially the fringe I’ve seen who think other carnivorous animal predators are also evil and need to be eliminated) are people I regard as foolish at best if not actively anti-indigenous and racist
With all the conversation of people deciding to not have kids with today's political climate, its good that people are getting more informed on how you will be treated differently if you have children & how children will seriously impact & change one's life in ways they might not have expected.
That being said, I feel like the conversation keeps veering into fatphobia/bodyshaming, like that pregnant & post-pregnant bodies are the worst thing that could possibly happen to you with people saying "pregnancy destroys your body" & that gaining weight as a result will make you "ugly", and assuming every single thing that could potentially go wrong will definitely happen to you if you get pregnant. Like its kinda getting into fearmongering territory
Had to block someone over being stupid on this post bc this post isn't me saying the solution should be to make everyone naïve & uninformed about what can happen during pregnancy & labor, but the opposite. Everyone considering birthing children should be knowledgeable about what pregnancy & labor entails & what their options are so they can have as comfortable & safe of an experience as possjble should they decide to become pregnant. However, the thing I'm pointing out here is that people are using ableist & fatphobic talking points to talk about why they don't want kids. I say this as someone who never wishes to become pregnant, ever.
Your partner potentially finding you unattractive during your pregnancy or post pregnancy (especially if its related to weight gain) is a case by case basis and that probably means your partner is kinda shitty, and the kid who didn't ask to be born is not really the one to blame for that. Sorry.
Saying pregnancy "destroys your body" also implies that your body is beyond help or healing, and again is also getting into ableism territory. You getting stretch marks, tearing during birth, or getting a bunch of cavities isn't "destroying your body", they're potential & common things that MIGHT happen if you give birth, & its literally a case by case basis for every child you have. There's no guarantee you will or won't experience things. There's also a chance your pregnancy can get rid of your allergies, your labor will be 2 hours long, & your pregnancy will be easy. You literally never know.
Like idk saying "you & your body is ugly because you gained weight & you're fat & have stretch marks and your body is destroyed because you healed from a difficult labor and i don't want that to happen to me" is kind of a fucked up thing to say about post/pregnant people, and implies you're only as good as your body. Kinda misogynist even.

You ever think about many peices of media have zero women and thats just perfectly normal but if a peice of media has an all female cast people get... like that? Women should be allowed to kill over this btw
same but it's black people
That's right
vaginas and uteruses are not dirty. you dont need a tea to post-period "cleanse" because periods arent fucking toxic. you dont need to shove harsh chemicals up your cooch to "clean" it because vaginas arent toxic. just plain water is an adequate cleaning of your vagina and outer vulva. vaginas are supposed to smell like vaginas. can yall stop fucking falling for this god damn propaganda every 3 months, i want to rip my hair out and start screaming in the town square.
