@/joshua.kimmich: Right now, I just feel empty, and I honestly haven't felt like saying anything. But it's part of the job to face moments like these as well.

Together, we set out to have a very successful World Cup, represent Germany with pride, and make a small contribution to a positive development in our country. And we failed. Once again. That is tearing me apart.

As proud as I am to be the captain of this team, and as special as it was for me to lead us into this tournament, the disappointment over how things turned out for us is just as immense.

Giving up has never been an option for me. But it will certainly take me more than just a few days to process this and get back on my feet.

Thank you to everyone who believed in us and stood by our side. We wish we could have given all of you, and ourselves, so much more in return.
