Bad news first, always, so...

I really dislike that it was in front of everyone, literally EVERYONE. If they kept the same dialogue but got rid of everyone but Joyce, Jonathan, and the rest of the core four, I think the 'not me' part would've felt less cheesy, and the whole thing would've felt more intimate. Anyone in the 80s going from in the closet to being out to literally EVERYONE in one day is just unrealistic. He didn't even know everyone in the room! Kali was there ffs! It was about to be such a beautiful scene with Will and Joyce, but then Mike just had to walk in. I thought at first it was just gonna be Will, Joyce, and Mike, but then NOPE! It's everyone. Literally everyone. I hate that.

I don't like how Will felt obligated to come out because of Vecna. Maybe if he just came out to a few people, they could've made it seem more reasonable that, yes, Vecna influenced him, but he also just wanted to do this. They could've addressed it, even. "Will, you don't have to talk about it." "No, I want to. I'm tired of being scared." SOMETHING like that! But instead it feels like he basically outed himself so that Vecna wouldn't use his fear against him, which is just so shitty.

Those are my only issues, but they're big ones.

However, there are some things that are still giving me hope.

Will is an unreliable narrator. He has been for a long time

He said that Mike is his Tammy, and like, wtf. But think about it. Just because he said it doesn't mean he believes it. He's standing right in front of Mike and room full of people. And even if he BELIEVES Mike was just his Tammy, that doesn't mean it's true. He just spent so much time having Vecna turn his thoughts against him. Any confidence he might have felt when it comes to Mike was just taken behind the shed and put down.

We STILL haven't gotten Mike's POV. We have no idea what his reaction to this moment will be.

The fact that they used the specific phrase "I don't like girls" makes me think that was specifically chosen to make Mike feel guilty. Maybe it'll lead to some actual insight into whatever the fuck is going on with him.

So was this a great, or even a good coming out scene? No. But I'm not accepting that we were queerbaited until the credits roll on episode 8.

Maybe I'm being delusional. Maybe I'm grasping at straws. Maybe I'm setting myself up to be even more disappointed.

But just remember that Chekhov's gun has yet to go off. We haven't addressed the painting. And we haven't seen that avalanche. The finale is literally a feature length film. I still think there could be time to turn things around.
