Like it is actually crazy that there’s now a completely appropriate secondary channel to just sort of generally platform your political opinions in a way that means that you can know someone in your scene, never have an IRL conversation about politics with them at all, and still know exactly what their political sympathies are if you followed them on social media. That shit has not existed for most of human history you used to have to make a fuss lol

I actually find that that’s one of the major translation errors between current my chem fans and people who try to at least sort of take on the historical perspective when looking at their early days (or were there when it was all happening)… it’s like what “resistance” in the vague sense means and how ideas or causes function socially and why/how the idea of a punk “poser” who has objectively decent politics could be considered annoying in a very specific way lol. it’s hard to step into the mindset of what bush era politics looked like especially relative to someone who was on the road enough that they weren’t necessarily tapped into their community or a sphere of influence beyond musicians. I don’t think the isolation translates to how we see people interacting with politics now. Plus being apolitical just means something different now because of the Internet and how consciousness-raising works lol

In general, and I totally understand why this happens, but I think the shifting generational standards between GenZ millennial types and elder millennial Gen X types is most apparent in terms of what they think is worth making fun of. like the stuff that one generation is supposed to rail against or that they find stupid or overdone I would say it is very different than what the other finds. and that plays out in a very hilarious way in how people look at My Chemical Romance
