I've always understood the posts stating that "you have to actually WANT to get better" as if they were simply about putting in more active effort. But tonight I'm finally realizing that what that statement actually means is that in order to get anywhere with your recovery, you have to decide that YOU are actually worthy of getting better. You have to look at yourself exactly as you are and be able to genuinely tell yourself "you deserve to feel better." Wanting to get better isn't just about willpower and hard work - it's about reaching a place where you can say that YOU actually deserve to feel better and mean it. And before you reach that point, it's hard to make serious progress - not because you don't want to get better, but because it's really hard to effectively work towards something you don't genuinely think you actually deserve.
