I am scary space monster You are leaky space blob

Putting aside my own personal aroace head cannon for Ryland, a lot of the content I see reduces Rocky to... A pet? Just funny little guy who pushes them together? Idk, I don't like the decentering him just because he's not human. Ryland Grace already has some with incredibly similar circumstances to bond with. Rocky is right there.

It just feels like another case of people pushing platonic relationships in media to the side because apparently they aren't interesting enough for people and they have to get another man there and give Grace a romantic interest and reduce Rocky to a mascot.

Except when time go fishing and excessive centrifugal force started to play where it made me a little too stressed and I had to skip ahead (even though the music is so good)

Like. The circumstances that they're in are so turbulent. Both of their home planets are dying and they have to find a solution. It's incredibly dangerous, and they both have to watch each other almost die. They can't breathe the same atmosphere. They don't speak the same language. Grace was literally forced into space, and Rocky had to watch their entire crew die until they were left alone.

But their love for each other is so strong, even when everything around them isn'. Even when they both know they'll have to eventually leave each other, to never see each other again.

That is, until Rocky is in trouble and Grace had to go back for him because that was his best friend that he couldn't leave behind.

Ryland Grace is a character who has deeply important platonic relationships in Rocky, a connection not only profound enough that it saves two planets, but also so profound that it lead him to turn and around for Rocky.

Even back on Earth, he forms connections with his students, with Carl in the movie, or Dimitri in the book, or Stratt, who has to send him off to die even when she doesn't want to.

Allo people are so threatened by a character they like being headcannoned as aroace because deep down, some of you don't see us as human, or think there's something wrong with us, or that our lives are boring.

You have a billion character, a billion ships out there. Most stories are centred on romance.

"But Ryland has a girlfriend! He felt lonely without romance! So he can't be aroace!" Okay, that's your reading of it. Great. Maybe you don't have to comment on posts of people enjoying aroace Ryland grace?
