I read a lot of comments that seemed to misunderstand what this post is saying. This is not about when you actually lose the thing (pet in this instance) that you love, it's about not letting the grief from the idea of that loss present itself.

I have a dog that I love very much, and my dad always says things like, "I don't know what you're gonna do when he's gone". It annoys me a lot, I always tell him I'll deal with it then, but I refuse to spend my time with him grieving. I will spend my time with my dog being happy he is here and loving him with all my heart.

A loss is a loss, and whenever it happens of course you will grieve. It's a healthy and necessary process, but not before it's warranted.

And to those who have lost, you may feel that you could've done more, or better... But that way of thinking will only cause you more pain, and I'm sure that's not what anyone who loves you would ever want. They loved you, and that too is proof of a victory.
