recently, minah had found herself falling apart - to an extent. it wasn’t intentional, she tries telling herself that, but it was inevitable. stress and life had pilled on top of her like rocks, and she was crushed underneath everything. she was lucky she’d finished up final exams recently, that was one less thing to deal with. but she still had to find a way to tell her grandparents about her situation, and to put it short - she was fucked. that, she thinks, is the common cause of her stress.
she finds herself walking on pebbles in the house she called her home at the moment, tiptoeing around as many people as she could; holding herself together in case she snapped at them or broke down entirely. she hides it as well as she can, a layer of mascara and lipstick in front of a camera keeps her sane. she’s trying not to lose her fucking self. truthfully even the people that watch her eat on a camera don’t even know what she’s going through, she’s thankful for that - they pay her bills.
minah hasn’t even told erin, her roommate, someone she trusts and holds dear to her heart. she wonders if she’ll ever tell anyone, maybe she’ll do what her own mother did and run away from her life in south korea to start fresh somewhere else. probably not though, that may be a bad idea. when she hears the bedroom door open, she’s cleaning up from her stream today, aching in her hips from sitting on the floor with just a pillow supporting her lower back.
“ hi erin, ” she grins, tuning to her roommate. her grin, however, drops when she sees the state erin’s in. “ come here, angel. “ she opens her arms wide, a hug open, but she doesn’t wait for erin to walk into her, she walks instead. the hug is soft, gentle, and warm. something minah prides herself in, when she’s in the hugging move that is. “ how was work ? meet any cute boys ? “ she teases, wiggling her eyebrows over when the question is asked.
erin almost allows herself to break down completely as the older girl engulfs her in a hug, sighing heavily and a quiet whine, which is more of a plea for a bed. the day’s troubles are almost piling up and proving too stressful for her. of course, in retrospect, they paled in comparison to the other’s. she snorts at the question, presenting her gift to minah. “ all the cute boys- “ she stops, giving her a pointed look “ and girls- are in hibernation. you’re the only one left. i got you a cupcake. “
she offers a smile with her extended hand- a rather tired one, but it’s genuine, at least. it would be a lie to say sometimes erin didn’t get tired of trying to be all things to all people- it was draining, at the end of the day. her cheeks hurt sometimes from faking smiles so much. but, oddly enough, she never quite tires of minah.
it’d be a lie to say erin can’t tell something was up with minah- she knows her too well to not notice something is causing the girl even more stress and giving her more of an edge than usual- but if erin knows anything about minah, she knows not to pressure her to do something she didn’t want to do. so she waits. she’s confident that if it’s important, minah’ll spill the beans eventually. “ please say you like double chocolate cupcakes- i have others, but this was the prettiest one. “
