       “ fucking hell.. “  the saddest looking fried egg stares back at her in her frying pan, overcooked and burnt beyond salvation. placing her hands on her slender hips, she debates her next steps. “ hey. “  she calls over to the nearest islander, not looking up from her mess. “ could you maybe … do me a solid and either tell me where I went wrong or make me a new egg all together because i’m flabbergasted here. “ 

felix  stands  horrified,  the  scene  he’d  walked  into  causing  him  to  choke  as  he  looks  over  her  shoulder  ;  coal  in  a  pan,  smoking  and  completely  unrecognizable.  “  fucking  hell  ---  are  you  tryna  burn  down  the  villa  already  ?  ”  taking  over  almost  immediately,  he  removes  the  pan  from  the  stove,  breath  held  to  keep  his  lungs  clean  as  he  heads  towards  the  bin.  “  love,  you’ve  gotta  start  by  keeping  the  temperature  low.  ”

“ i canna believe ‘m actually here righ’ na. ‘s mad, aye? look, thas ma name on tha water bottle! ” with a grin that nearly swallows his face, maverick pushes himself onto one of the kitchen counters and looks out over his shoulder at the sprawling villa. “ what d’ya reckon so far, of the villa an’ all ‘uh that? ”

behind  the  counter,  felix  tinkers  at  the  sink,  refilling  his  own  labeled  bottle  with  an  overwhelmed  sort  of  expression  on  his  face.  already  he  could  hear  the  narrator  announcing  that  he  ‘  seems  to  be  having  a  hard  time  settling  in  ’  and  that  he’d  probably  be  more  comfortable  if  he’d  only  ‘  take  a  quick  dip  in  the  pool  ’  ---  but  felix  wasn’t  in  the  villa  just  to  take  advantage  of  the  infinity  pool,  and  despite  walking  around  in  nothing  but  his  trunks,  the  thought  hadn’t  even  crossed  his  mind  yet.  “  s’alright.  ”  he  replies  with  a  shrug,  turning  his  attention  to  the  other.  “  how  ‘bout  you  ?  things  going  well  with  sienna  so  far  ?  ”

     “okay,  was  i  the  only  one  who  though  the  first  coupling  was  supposed  to  be  easy  breezy  ?”  she  asks,  trying  to  wipe  the  sweat  from  her  palms  on  bare  thighs.  “they  made  it  look  like  the   bachelor,  beginner’s  edition.  just  pick  who  you  think’s  the  hottest  and  pray  they  think  you’re  hot,  too.  i  feel  like  i  ran  a  marathon,  though.”

“  to  be  honest  i  was  a  bit  shocked  to  see  how  many  people  were  ballsy  enough  to  steal  somebody  right  after  they’d  been  coupled  up  with  someone  else  ---  like  i’m  not  saying  it  didn’t  cross  my  mind  either,  but  the  thought  of  already  stirring  the  boat  and  getting  a  reason  to  not  get  along  with  somebody  was  a  bit  daunting.  ”  he  laughs,  wary  even  now,  of  how  quickly  things  could  change  in  the  villa.  “  never  thought  it  would  be  a  walk  in  the  park  though.  ”

though  he  can  be  brave,  felix  feels  completely  out  of  his  element  in  the  villa  ;  he’s  not  as  outgoing  as  some  of  the  other  islanders  already  have  shown  themselves  to  be  and  doesn’t  know  where  to  begin  when  it  comes  to  relating  to  them.  with  the  couples  already  in  place,  he  hesitates  to  assist  the  woman  before  him,  the  neon  glow  of  her  bikini  a  bold  and  catching  choice  ---  her  personality  seeming  to  match.  it  was  day  one,  so  what  was  the  harm  in  getting  to  know  her  ?  “  yeah  alright.  ”  he  smiles,  a  hand  extending  to  accept  the  bottle  she  holds.  “  do  you  wanna  go  find  somewhere  to  sit  down  ?  ”
