Societies little to no regard for Wednesday is a common occurrence that has traumatized Wednesday. She is distant, unforgiving, and lacks trust, all of which go so deep it bleeds into her own family. All this didn’t happen from the simple fact her scorpion pet was killed in-front of her (and even if it was only that its still a fucking valid thing 💀) Within even the first scene you see how everyone treats Wednesday, even teachers look at her with disgust. This type of social distancing was confirmed by Wednesday to be the norm in her life, I wouldn’t be surprised if Nero dying wasn’t the only time society had such little care of Wednesday’s feelings.

So while the story on it self doesn’t level up to the same level of trauma that is being disowned by your family and kicked out of your community. It’s meant to be Wednesday’s way of relating to Enid by stating she has never been welcomed in her community, that society had already rejected Wednesday. That she is already in the place Enid fears to be in. And before anyone says anything, yes Wednesday still has her family but that’s not enough for anyone, we are human beings we need some type of human connection with others, even within the show the lesson Wednesday learned was that she needs her peers, she is not immune to the human need for connections.

It is so sad that people don’t want to analyze the scene, that they take it for granted and don’t think of the subtext within it. It leads to people not understanding Wednesday’s character, I’ve seen people call her spoil for thinking her life is so sad because her pet scorpion got killed when Enid was going to get disowned, that Wednesday has no place to talk because she has a loving family. Some of you have never been bullied in your life and it shows, thinking a loving family would solve all your issues is a fucking lie, it definitely helps but as I’ve stated, Wednesday’s trauma with society had gone as deep as bleeding into her family relationships, she distrust people so much it bleeds into her own family.

That scene is literally the best scene to highlight both Enid’s and Wednesday’s personalities and lives, the fact they are meant to be character foils of one another, Enid is accepted by society, she is popular and has no problem making friends, but she is rejected by her family, her community; while Wednesday is rejected by society, she is unable to form friendships and it’s constantly attacked, while her family and community loves her. The scene it’s filled to the brim with subtext and backstory and the makings of a friendship, but people don’t like to think deeper about it.
