The waves were warm, they were always warm here, but in the summer, they were as warm as the blood from a human. Other mers knew and warned, whenever the seasons changed: stay away from the shores. Yet this mer drew closer to the land, to the roaring rivers that led deeper into the grounds, whenever she felt that gradual rise in temperature. There were many stories of the things that could happen to you when you got too close to the contested waters between land and the sea ... this would be one of those stories.
