🔎 Ammonia vs yandere tropes!
With the deciding factor that Ammonia is not, in fact, polyamorous - it’s time to revisit one of my more favorite character studies I’ve done for her! She’s developed a lot since last year, and is very much a yandere-type character, but not in an extremely typical manner - so, we shall once again be playing the game where I name a common trait of this character archetype and rate how Ammonia Mallove falls on the scale! 10 being the highest, 0 being the lowest.
Most of Ammonia’s worries are born from what she perceives, especially to be rejection. While she will not believe that her darling’s care inherently makes them a couple, she will fall blindly into the blissful hope that said expression of affection will inspire. Ammonia is very easily lost within herself, her own romanticism and daydreaming and longing - but her heart can also drag her in the opposite direction, into spiraling fear, depression and self-loathing, if she believes that she has been rejected. So, while Ammonia is very analytical and smart and aware of reality, she is definitely far too trusting in her own head, heart, instincts, and worries - not to mention certain people. Without outside influence, that mind can easily be drowned.
Initially, I gave Ammonia an eight in this category because her infatuation and obsession with her darling usually would not upset her lifestyle, schedule, or health - buuuuuuut things have changed. As per her RSD and anxiety, Ammonia will be completely content and independent and confident… until something goes wrong.
My criteria in my original post was that, because Ammonia was capable of focusing on things (such as work and hobbies) without thinking of her darling, she was therefore not entirely obsessive - but this criteria no longer works. The definition of obsession, psychologically speaking, is when one becomes stuck on a subject and unable to remove themselves from focusing on it - which is applicable to Ammonia in regards to almost everything she does. Her spiraling is obsessive, her sensitivity is obsessive, her artwork and performances, the effort with which she does every single thing, especially for her darling, because that is who she adores the very most. Her darling is her subject, worshipped and doted on, adored and protected, loved and cherished. Let me put it this way - if Ammonia is not focused on her darling, it doesn’t mean that she isn’t internally obsessing over them - and if Ammonia is not obsessing over her darling, she is obsessing over something else, instead.
This is a rating/trait that absolutely has not changed. Ammonia still will want to be around her darling more than anyone else alive, the need to be close enough to make her skin itch. Emotional expression of fondness through touch is exacerbated by her natural, feral instincts as a werecat - she needs to scent her darling, to wear that scent, to have her darling wear her own, to feel her warmth and touch - and as she struggles to control herself, fighting every urge to literally pounce and cling, Ammonia will never stop wanting to simply share company, either. If she cannot be in her darling’s lap, scenting her from across the table or room is just as satisfying - plus the romantic touch of just spending time together! Ammonia doesn’t require physical contact, but she does require her darling’s attention.
This is why I decided to rewrite this post, lol. Feline instincts + protective bullshit + abandonment issues = yes, her darling is very much hers and you shall not touch. Ammonia does not share attention well at all, especially that of her darling, whom she wants to scent-mark literally so other weres know that she is safe and protected and taken. This behavior is born from both protectiveness (a need to keep her darling safe and happy) and anxiety (a fear that her darling may love someone more than herself and leave her alone). It is, however, important to note that Ammonia deeply values independence, and therefore would loathe any idea or restricting her darling’s freedoms.
Nope. Utterly none. Between her inability to be subtle and her sensitive mess of a heart, Ammonia could never manipulate anyone, nor would she even want to try - especially not to her darling. Ammonia is all genuineness and feeling, and accidentally deceiving her darling is enough to have her spiraling into guilt. No lies, only expression.
Okay. So. The fun thing about this one is that no, Ammonia would never harm a single hair on her darling’s head, and if she accidentally did (she does have claws), she would be a mess of contrition and worry - but, while Ammonia does not want to hurt anyone, she would take great satisfaction in defending/protecting or avenging her darling. I know a certain Normie teacher that would have been messily dismembered by a panther, if said panther were present.
Obsessive service and devotion is still Ammonia’s language. She’s unlikely to be selfish in general, but for her darling? Ammonia is a giving, doting, clingy, needy feline loving machine. Hence why she’s always making such intricate and high-quality gifts! The number-one sign of Ammonia’s affection - she’s feeding you.
Hmm… with how anxious Ammonia gets about making certain people uncomfortable, she’s very ‘on top’ of her feral impulses, usually not blinding caving to them - but this doesn’t mean they’re not present. For example, she will impulsively plan and make things for her darling all the time, and only think of the consequences later - she will also impulsively jump to her darling’s aid in a similar manner, forgetting propriety or roles or etc in favor of helping the one she loves the most.
She has, however, been somewhat ‘trained’ over her lifetime to curb her more feline impulses. She’ll desperately want to cling and nuzzle and get as close as possible, but she (usually) knows far better than to invade someone’s space without their consent, even that of her darling - and Ammonia is aware of this factoid about herself, which motivates her self-imposed quarantine during her heat periods, because those hormonal fluctuations will disastrously screw up her self-control. Needy pet mode, activate.
