Women Are Sharing Their Worst Mansplaining Experiences And Whew It Is A Lot
I know a girl who wouldn't get an iud because her boyfriend told her it "plugged the hole" where the eggs come out. That was fun to unravel
Have I ever mentioned how much I love, Love, LOVE Dajaâs pov in Pierceâs Emelan series? I am a jeweler, and did a ton of metalsmithing in undergrad, so I fangirled during her povâs because Pierce actually does her homework on the craft.
I do my best! And it helped that I had a jeweler and metalsmith I could go to with nitpicky questions.
I learned how to spin because of Sandry. Fun fact about me

Easy teen crafting programs
for people that are uncomfortable with both teens AND crafts: any ideas? Trying to think of stuff for the summer. Deep into pinterest and programminglibrarian right now. So many things require a stove and pointy objects, come on.
make your own âDO IT FOR HERâ collages. have them each bring a magazine theyâre okay with cutting up and sharing with others, supply a stack of whatever magazines gathered from places and a couple sheets of appropriate phrases, flowers, and graphics.

That feel when you invite yr parents to get ice cream after a cooking class in yr neighborhood and they say no so you drink whiskey alone in yr house and then they're like yes let's get ice cream and yr drunk so you say yr in bed at 930 because you are 100% inappropriately drink for hanging out alone on a Saturday night before 10pm and yr mom responds by saying "HAHA HAHAHAHAHAhaha"
Dos and don'ts on designing for accessibility
Karwai Pun, GOV.UK:
The dos and donâts of designing for accessibility are general guidelines, best design practices for making services accessible in government. Currently, there are six different posters in the series that cater to users from these areas: low vision, D/deaf and hard of hearing, dyslexia, motor disabilities, users on the autistic spectrum and users of screen readers.
[âŚ] Another aim of the posters is that theyâre meant to be general guidance as opposed to being overly prescriptive. Using bright contrast was advised for some (such as those with low vision) although some users on the autistic spectrum would prefer differently. Where advice seems contradictory, itâs always worth testing your designs with users to find the right balance, making compromises that best suit the usersâ needs.

Not really sure why using complicated language or figures of speech is underneath accessibility for deaf column. Or the stuff about not having long blocks of textâŚdoes this stem from the (dated) general belief that deaf people struggle with reading??? Not that I think long blocks of texts or figures of speech etc are that great on websites anyway - most people are just trying to find info quickly. I just donât think breaking up content with a bunch of videos is good accessibility either TBH

Tumblarians! I need your help!
I have the green light from my director to start a monthly book group for 20something/30somethings off library property (pubs/cafes). I have so many questions for those of you who have done this. 1) What should I call it? Itâs difficult to come up with something that doesnât sound terrible, yet describes the essence of the group. Iâm vetoing the word âmillennialâ and the phrase ânew adultâ as the first is obnoxious and the second is misleading. 2) Do you stay at one location or do you move each month? 3) Do you require participants to check out library copies? This was one of my directorâs stipulations but Iâm not sure itâs realistic. 4) Does your library fund any of the food or do you leave the members to fend for themselves entirely? 5) Do you stick to âbook club booksâ or do you have a genre: sci fi, romance, etc? 6) How do you advertise? Facebook? Instagram? Meetup? Local paper? Fliers at the train station? Something else? 6) Is there anything you feel I should know? Warnings? Tips? Helpful experiences? Thank you for any and all input!
Signal boost, I bet @mylifeinthelibrary will have some pointers
1. We call ours Books at Bars
2. We meet at the same location every month, but we have different leaders.
3. No--but we definitely try to help them find our copies :)
4. Members fend for themselves, but if you have the budget I donât see why you couldnât get some apps
5. The leaders choose one book and thatâs whatâs discussed. We have other book clubs around genres--just not at the bar ;)
6. In our library brochure, social media, and mostly meet up
7. Iâve never done it myself, but people seem to love it! We donât get the young adult crowd, really, but the participants love it. Email me if you want me to connect you to people who have actually done it!
I tried a new pen, but it looks crappy >:(
