I do think Facebook has made people extremely incurious. I don’t understand how people ask questions of a Facebook group, for example, “when is the school start date,” when they could either a) contact the school district directly or b) go to the school district website and look at the district calendar. Similarly, what are the supply lists, and again, school district website - supply lists. Not to mention, the district also has a Facebook page where they are posting this information, so if you must be so attached to Facebook, you could go to their Facebook page. It’s like that for just about every topic that has an easily verifiable source off Facebook. But they also think Facebook pages or groups are websites. Internet illiteracy is very, very real.

this past week I started thinking: what if I went to paris for new year’s. what if after christmas I took a flight to france for a week or so. why not? what if???

however here is one small fun thing from this week - the joy of throwing together a playlist of some fave songs and songs you think your friend would like when they express interest about getting into an artist you listen to. that was a fun little thing to do and we should all do this more often (this as in, making but also receiving curated artist playlists for/from friends).

Last night I threw up (and uhh other stuff) a few hours after eating dinner. This happened once in May and it also happened once in June. Amazingly did not happen in July. I don’t know why it happens, just that I feel fine then suddenly I don’t feel fine and then suddenly I’m gonna throw up. There doesn’t seem to be a common denominator between the three meals, looking back at them. None of them were during the same times of the month (5/19, 6/9, 8/13). My one thought was maybe just too much acidity? But I don’t know if all of them were particularly acidic. Prior to last night, I assumed it was the heat as both May and June incidents were during heatwaves and exceptionally hot. But yesterday didn’t feel particularly hot to me and the evening felt cooler. I don’t know! But I hate this. It’s awful and also so gross. I guess I’ll just mention it to my doctor but I’m not sure she can really do much with “hey I threw up once a month during three separate months and none of the food I ate was the same.”

I've been doing a search on my organization in the newspapers, and it's really depressing to see how libraries and research finds were celebrated. Articles about libraries and computers and technology. There are also articles celebrating funding and legislative measures for libraries. Now we have to write articles defending our profession/spaces from people who seem to think libraries are not technologically advanced and manned by the shushing old lady from Ghostbusters.

Every day I just feel more sad. And maybe I really do need to leave. Maybe I need to go somewhere where I’m not related to nearly everyone in town, to a house I didn’t grow up in (even though I really do love it), to a place where there are more job opportunities instead of seemingly only this one, that’s not going anywhere, where I am basically doing my boss’s job and everyone expects me to take over when she retires. Maybe I need to go somewhere with new people. New sights. New stuff. New job. New home. New life. But I know I’ll still just be the same me, with the same sadness.
