note : ugh yuta and reader both suck at communication (typical 16 yr olds lol) NOT proofread too lazy
words yuta would’ve never expected in a million years.
“w-why?” he grabbed y/ns hands, or at least tried to but she pulled away. “what happened?”
“this is all too much for me. i can’t do a relationship anymore.” she looked away. “it’ll be best if we break up.”
his ears started ringing. this was all so sudden. just yesterday they were so happy and in love and today she just wants to break up? why?
“why? i don’t think its the best. i don’t want to break up at all.” he pleaded.
she sighed like it was so much effort to keep talking to him. he has never in their nine months of dating seen her act like this before. she switched up overnight. she was like a brand new person. she was heartless.
“yuta, i said we’re done. can i go now?” she rubbed her head. “i like do not want to talk to you anymore.”
he watched her walk away. did nine months really mean nothing to her? nine months was a long time for two sixteen year olds. he watched as she went and struck up a conversation with megumi. he could hear the way her voice was suddenly back to its normal tone, her bright and bubbly tone. her smile was so bright. a smile that used to be that bright with him.
that night was so hard for him. he couldn’t sleep without her by his side. it was just too quiet, too cold. he needed her body pressed up against him again. he needed the smell of her shampoo overflowing his nose. he needed her.
y/n cried herself to sleep. she didn’t want to break up but she didn’t know what to do. she didn’t know how to handle her feelings that felt all over the place. the best thing that she thought to do was just to end it and never speak about it again.
a couple days have passed since the breakup. everyone noticed. the air between the two was tense and awkward and yuta was so out of it. only maki dared to ask what happened.
“so you and y/n? anything going on?” she asked yuta.
yuta gave her the saddest puppy dog eyes ever.
“we broke up.” yuta pouted.
“i don’t know why. it happened so quickly. i didn’t have enough time to think, i didn’t have enough time to stop it.” he sighed. “i’ll never move on from her.”
“don’t you think you’re being a little dramatic. it’s only been a couple of days.” maki chuckled.
on the other side of the field, inumaki and y/n were chatting. yuta stared at the from afar and felt jealous but there wasn’t anything he could do anymore. she wasn’t his anymore.
god the way the wind blowed her hair, made his heart race. her cheeks looked so squishy when she rested her chin on her two hands. she wasn’t still so beautiful.
“mustard leaf?” inumaki asked.
“inumaki.” y/n pouted. “we broke up.”
“okay so tell me why i literally had to hear about him leaving to africa from maki? can you believe?” she scoffed. “and he’s literally leaving in tomorrow and he didn’t think to tell me first! ugh that just pisses me off so freaking much! isn’t that so bogus? he could’ve told me as soon as he found out.”
“oh and guess what? i learned that he used to like maki. so not only does he not tell me first, he tells the girl he used to like first!” she stood up. “im so freaking pissed! i was literally his girlfriend for nine months!”
her cursed energy surged, making everyone look over, even yuta. he didn’t know how to feel. she was so open with telling inumaki about her feelings but she couldn’t even tell him. he felt heartbroken. she didn’t feel comfortable enough with him, her own boyfriend, but she felt comfortable with his best friend.
during their down time, yuta mustered up the courage to talk to y/n again. he needed to talk to her before he left. he just wanted to hear her voice, even if it was just her yelling at him.
“y/n.” he put a hand on her shoulder. “can we talk? please?” his voice sounded so so so soft. y/n was weak to men with soft voices, especially when it sounded like they’re begging.
“fine.” she sighed, standing up and leading him to a corner of the school where they frequently hung out at.
even though her face had no visible signs, her heart was beating out of her chest. what was he going to say? was he going to bring up maki? was he going to ask to get back together? what was he going to do?
“i’m sorry.” he started. “whatever i did, im sorry.”
silence. now she was pissed again. he didn’t even know what he did wrong!!! yuta could feel her cursed energy once again rising. he needed to calm her down but he didn’t know how.
“please forgive me.” he hugged her.
“you don’t even know why im upset.” her voiced cracked. “how could you apologize but you don’t even know what you did wrong?”
she pulled away from the hug. she didn’t face him, she didn’t want him to see her face. she was hurt, more hurt than angry. this was the first time she has experienced such heartbreak.
“can’t you tell me?” he held her hands in his. he always liked how big she made him feel. “tell me so i can make it right.”
“if i told you, would you care because you see it as an issue, or would you only care about it because it made me upset?” she asked.
he stayed quiet because he truly didn’t know. she always got upset about things that he saw as little or insignificant. he didn’t know how to answer.
she started crying. the sound of her sniffling and rapid breathing made his heart ache. he didn’t want to see her cry. he never wanted to be the reason why she was crying in the first place.
“you didn’t tell me that you were leaving.” she managed to get out. “you…. you told maki instead!”
he put her head into his chest. it’s not like he forgot to tell her, he just didn’t know how to do it. they were so happy. how could he tell her he was leaving to a different continent?
“and then, and then i find out that you used to like maki before me! so not only did you not tell me anything, you also went to the girl before me!” she started bawling. “am i not important to you?”
“you’re important to me.” he put a hand on her head. “i’m sorry i didn’t tell you that i was leaving.”
he silently cried with her because he knew that they weren’t going to get back together. he knew that he messed up and it was too late. they knew they could never make a long distance relationship last.
she didn’t see him off at the airport. she didn’t send a text or call. he didn’t either. there was no point in rekindling their relationship while so far away.
he missed her. he missed her like crazy. it’s been six months since she broke up with him and he couldn’t move on. he couldn’t stop loving her. every night in his dreams she appeared. it all felt so real. he could smell her perfume. he could actually feel her body against his. he needed her back. he needed it all back.
y/n was living life. she was now a semi grade one. sure she almost died but yay she didn’t. she missed yuta though. she missed him whenever she was sad or was hurt. she really missed him when she ranked up. he would’ve been so happy for her.
after narrowly escaping death in shibuya, she rested for the first time in months. ever since the breakup she always kept herself busy, but on orders from shoko, she was forced to rest.
“how are you feeling?” megumi entered her room. “everything okay?”
“i’m ready to get up.” she opened one eye and peeked at him. “would you snitch?”
“lame.” she blew a raspberry.
they got closer. she liked how nonchalant he kinda was. she liked how he was a crashout at times too. he was funny in a weird way. he was cute, like a little brother.
“where is she?” yuta landed back in japan. he heard that gojo was sealed, inumaki had his arms cut off, maki was severely burned and his y/n was nearly killed. he walked into her room and saw megumi already in there.
“yuta?” she sat up, wincing in pain.
“don’t move too fast.” he rushed to her side. “just rest.”
he was honestly a little ticked off at the sight of megumi alone in her room with her, but there was nothing he could do or say as they weren’t even together anymore. seeing her in such a state made his knees weak. megumi knew how to read the room and left.
“i was so worried about you.” yuta dropped to his knees. “im so glad you’re alright.”
he held her hand and kissed it. seeing her alive was all he needed to continue. she was breathing and talking. she was okay.
“i’m sorry.” he said from his knees. “i thought about what i did. i thought about your question. i was wrong. i care about it because i see it as an issue for us, for our relationship and because it makes you upset. i never want to see you upset again.” he hung his head. “i should’ve told you first. i should’ve never told maki before you. i just didn’t know what to do, and i know that’s no excuse at all. i may have liked her, but the girl i love is you. i miss you. i can’t do anything without you.”
she cupped his face and made him look up at her. she smiled when their eyes met. he was always her cute handsome strong boyfriend.
“i forgive you.” she stroked his cheek. “i’m sorry too. i should’ve communicated better.”
when she almost died, the first thing she regretted was being so cruel to yuta. the first thing she wanted to say when she saw him was that she loved him.
“i love you.” he looked up at her, his voice so soft that only them two could hear.
“i love you too.” she smiled.
“are you guys done?” megumi walked into the room again. “we have bigger fish to fry.”
