Did uhm,,, Did yoy know that President John Fitzgerald Kennedy (senior) was born in the master bedroom on the second floor of 83 Beals Street at 3pm, May 29th, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts… However, shortly after, (well, sort of. he was ~3) he contracted scarlet fever, which is where many of his long-standing issues stemmed from. However, despite that, he continued to go on and FIGHT IN WW2. He was turned away from the Navy ~3 times, and had to have his father fudge his documents so that he could go in. (Also his draft lotto number was 2748, but he clearly didn't wait for it to be called…) While in the Navy, the boat he was serving on was smashed by a Japanese destroyer. One of his mates wanted to give up and drown as he was badly burned, but Jack just put a life-jacket on him and the strap between his own teeth so that he could swim to the nearest island. <- This is how he became a purple heart winner. He then returned from the war with a worsened back (whoops). His political career begun when he was only 29, when he became a congressman. Here's the cool bit; He beat his closest Democratic opponent by nearly double the votes (he had ~43% of the votes for that) and then beat the Republican opponent in an absolute slaughter, as he'd won ~72% of the votes. Surprisingly, Jack ended up entering Congress the exact same day as Richard Milhaus Nixon, even being in the same damn hall. In 1954, Jack got a surgery that fused multiple of his spinal disks together, and as a result it made his back pain so much worse. Now, the 1960 election is so fascinating because Jack and Dick were friends. Realistically, if there weren't a stigma around it, they could have run together and made another union party, though I suppose there'd be quite a bit of a power struggle, especially in the beginning. Anyways,,,, It's technically the second closest popular vote in history with a margin of 0.17% in Kennedys favour, which is even thinner than Bush v Gore, which had a margin of 0.51% in Gores favour!
