What a philosopher. “It may be that drifting isn’t living, or even surviving.” Inej paused. ‘What if you don’t have another choice, though? What if the only thing we can do is drift through life, going with the flow, making mistakes? It doesn’t make us any less real – it just makes us a tragedy.”

“-- That sounds about right. It’s sad, though.”

Blinking for a moment, the blonde processed his words, nodding slowly after a moment. “Well uh..I hope you know..you were okay from falling off a balcony. That sounds rather painful.” She noted with a shrug, a pink tint forming on her cheeks. “Oh– thank you, I’m really nothing special. Trust me.”

“-- That’s alright, I’ve had worse. It was worth it. But you’re wrong. Every single atom in the entire universe could have collided in such a way to create you just the teensiest bit different, but they didn’t. Every single one of your decisions and experiences could have occurred in such a way to drastically change who you are. You’re utterly unique. And that’s beautiful.”

‘ blimey. ‘ katie blinked as she stares at the other in front of her with widened eyes. ‘ where’d all that come from? it’s a bit mad. ‘

“-- Aren’t we all?”

“Oh my god…” The male whispered as he shook his head, glossy hues reading the contents on the phone within his fingertips, “I don’t know if I’m crying because apparently I died or because I won a freaking TONY award for my musical!” Brows furrow as he lowers the phone, “I’m confused…How am I not dead right now?”

“-- I wish that I knew, cuz. I thought perhaps it was hell, but now I think it could be purgatory. Or, the stars play some cruel and torturous trick upon their subjects. ...We’re their subjects, by the way.”

“-- In my experience? You don’t. They don’t listen even if you do try to talk to them, and alienate you to the extent that you don’t want to. Are you alright?”

Michelle sat on a bench, her eyes firmly planted in a book. Reading seemed to be the only thing she ever did, besides decathlon. But, she interrupted her reading to look up at the person near her. “Dude, do you mind? You’re kind of blocking my light.”

“-- But this is the best place for a morning angst.”

“Are you implying you fell off of a balcony?” The girl spoke, brow raising letting go of the others hand as he stood. Eyebrows raising she nodded. “Well yes..I’m perfectly fine. I’m not the one who fell.”

“-- No...I’m not implying that I fell off of a balcony, I’m definitively confirming that I fell off of a balcony. The stars were especially nice. You mightn’t be the one who fell, but it’s still the right thing to do to ask. ...And also my brain stopped working for a minute. You have an intimidating beauty.”

“By the Angel,” Alec sighed. “No, no I am not planning on murdering you unless you pose a danger to the people in this town.”

“-- What if I’m not planning on posing a danger to them, but I turn out to be highly contagious in a manner that would put them in danger? Would you murder me then?”

“why are you so dead set on not caring what year you’re in? don’t you have birthdays? christmas? appointments? a general sense of self-preservation?”

Romeo shrugged. “-- Why should I care for birthdays or Christmas? Appointments are irrelevant, and self-preservation is a myth.”

While the other spoke, Grantaire raised an eyebrow, listening to his words. He nodded slowly when the boy had finished speaking. “I can say we ‘ave similar experiences,” Grantaire started. “For me, I ‘ad fallen for someone who ‘ad been wanting to change our ‘ome country. My friends and I, we ‘ad all followed ‘im and did anything we could for ‘im. I mean,” he let out a short, empty laugh, “I did not… do not believe in ‘is cause but I always believed in ‘im, just like the rest of my friends. I ‘ad known that it would end in blood - it was something we all ‘ad known and none of us would ‘ave left the fight because, deep down, at least for me, I wanted to see a change. I wanted to believe that the world would be able to change if only everyone worked together. But even when I knew that there was not going to be a change, I would not ‘ave left because I would not ‘ave wanted to live in a world without my amis or ‘im.” Grantaire paused, scratching his neck. “I apologize, I lost the, ah, ‘ow do you say, train of thought? All I wanted to say was that I do understand for you not ‘aving been able to ‘andle it. I would not ‘ave either.”

Now it was Romeo who listened, his back against the tree and his chocolate eyes melting in empathy. “-- It’s alright, cuz. I know what you meant. It’s difficult to be in love when you know...what will happen.” He frowned now, and sat down at the base of the tree, looking up at the other. “-- I used to think that I wanted to be free of the feud, of my family, but...now that I am, it cost me my life and my love. What is there now?” It was an honest question, not rhetorical in the slightest. Genuinely, in this moment, the man before him seemed to have his life more together than he did. To the muns, this is...heartbreaking.

“Let’s just say I have some experience with people thinking I’m dead. I never actually died so I don’t know what you went through, but people usually like a heads-up from you when you’re ‘alive again’.”

“-- Uh. I really don’t want to tell them, cuz. They’re part of why I died. Why would I wish to return to a place where all I have is blood?”

Cassie couldn’t help the rather embarrassed laugh as the other spoke, pulling him up with ease, smile still small. “Oh– um..well, thank you. I’d hope so..Are you alright though? Looked like a pretty bad fall.”

Romeo’s eyes flickered between the hand and the face. “-- I’ve had worse. There may have been a balcony involved. Have you...are you...alright?”

          “Well, I hate to break it to you, but that’s kinda’ impossible.”

Romeo shrugged. “-- If it’s impossible, I fail to see how I stand here. I died, yet here I am. Perhaps it is more of an improbability, sì?”

a quizzical expression formed on her face. “you think? are you not from here, either?”

“-- Actually no, I’m not. I come from Verona. And yourself?”

      “no, actually i prefer to just forget about it, just for a moment”

“-- Alright. Well, the offer’s there if you need it. How do you prefer to forget?”
