“Hello, this is Danielle with an update. I am beside myself with worry and heartbreak for Tareq and his family and trying to make sense of a world where we are collectively allowing this to happen. I am not even sure what to do other than to share this with this community of people who also cares about this family. These are Tareq’s words from today:

‘swear to you, my dear friend, I truly wish for death rather than continuing to live in this world and in this kind of life. I swear, my children and I have been going to sleep hungry for days. I can barely provide them with anything that eases their hunger or gives them the slightest sense of comfort.

Even the most basic items, like flour, cost no less than $500 per sack—and we barely have any food to eat. I feel completely helpless. I truly don’t know what more I can possibly do.

Even za’atar, dukkah, and olive oil—the simplest things to put in a piece of bread—I can’t afford to buy. And if I do manage to get them, we need at least 1 kilo per week because that’s literally the only thing we have to eat with bread. But a kilo of za’atar or dukkah now costs more than $100… and a liter of olive oil, if we find it, is over $50!

I can barely keep up with my daughter Tala’s needs. A single pack of diapers costs $100, and she needs at least three packs every month. She also needs a can of baby formula every week, and now even that costs $50 or more.

No matter how much we spend, it’s never enough. And in the end… we still go to sleep hungry, unable to buy anything that truly fills our stomachs.

Even bread—when we bake it, it dries up after just a few hours. We’re forced to eat it hard and stale because we can’t reheat it. We have no gas, and not even a refrigerator to store food. The most basic parts of life have become impossible dreams.

To make things worse, everything in the market is sold for cash only. And to even get cash in hand, we have to lose 30% of any money sent to us just to convert it.

What have we become? What are we worth anymore? I swear to you, I have nothing left inside me. My strength is gone. I cannot endure a life like this any longer. I would rather die than continue to live this way—under this suffering, in a life that has become unbearable.’

I appeal to you with all the pain and suffering we have endured after 11 months of war in Gaza . Our homes have been destroyed, our dreams have vanished, and my family lives in constant fear. We are facing an endless nightmare, and I need your help to protect my family and restore hope to our hearts.

Please, I Beg You To Read This. The latest report shows that over 65,000 children in Gaza are facing death due to starvation. This is not just a number—it is real, it is now. My little boy Qais is one of them. He was already injured in the war, and now he is slowly starving. I am terrified every day that I might wake up and find him gone. if any other demographic of students had a 95% failure rate, we would be demanding reform and studies to understand why that’s happening

when i was at my first university, trying to get accommodations for my ADHD, they just kept asking me what accommodations i wanted, and refused to answer when i would ask what was available to me. how the Hell am i supposed to know what i can have? what’s available???? also, i don’t know!!!! i’m an adhd sufferer, not a fucking disability expert for the fucking college, unlike you, DISABILITY EXPERT WHO WORKS FOR THE COLLEGE.

but because the us is OBSESSED with making sure no one gets anything “”for free””, she literally would not tell me what my options were until i broke down in tears and asked her why she was refusing to help me. and then she did a big sigh, like i was fucking up her entire career by *checks notes* asking the disability center in my university to help me, a disabled student

at the second uni i went to, i tried to explain to a dean that i was literally two gen eds that had nothing to do with my degree away from graduating and that i was burnt out and broke and exhausted and suicidal and i just needed to be able to finish my degree without the gen eds. and this. fucking. guy. looked me right in my face and said in the most patronizing tone he could muster “if you can’t handle it, then maybe college just isn’t for you.” keep in mind that up until that semester, i had been an honor student who made Dean’s List every semester and didn’t get below Bs. if it hadn’t been for my mental breakdown, i would have graduated cum laude, maybe even summa cum laude.

I never thought I would be writing this. I never thought I would be begging for help just to keep my children warm, just to feed them one more meal. But here I am, reaching out to you, because I have no other choice.

My name is Rola. I am a mother of two beautiful children, and before October 7th, we had a life filled with love and laughter. We had a home. My children had their own room, filled with their toys and drawings. We would sit together on our balcony, drinking coffee in the early morning light. We had dreams, just like any other family.

But in an instant, it was all gone.

A missile struck. The earth shook beneath us. The air filled with dust and fire. My husband and son ran, stumbling over each other in terror. I stood frozen, the ringing in my ears drowning out my own screams. Our home was shattered—windows blown out, doors ripped from their hinges. And when I looked outside, our neighbor’s house, a place that once echoed with children's laughter, was nothing but rubble and ash.

That was just the beginning.

The bombs never stopped. Every night, I held my children close as the sky rained fire. The sound of explosions mixed with the cries of mothers searching for their babies in the darkness. I covered my children, whispering words of comfort, but how do you comfort a child who is terrified of dying in their sleep?

We had to leave. We walked away from everything—our home, our memories, the warmth of our life before. My children left behind their favorite toys, their books, their safe space. Now, we have nothing.

No home.

No food.

No clean water.

No way out.

I went to buy sugar the other day. It cost $20 for just a kilo. Food is disappearing, and the little that remains is impossible to afford. Every day, I fight to find just enough to keep my children alive.

I am exhausted. I am scared. I need your help.

I never imagined I would have to beg for my family’s survival. But today, I am.

Please, if you are reading this, help us. Help me save my children. Help us find shelter, food, a way to rebuild even a small piece of the life we lost. If we ever have the chance to leave, we need support. If we are forced to stay, we need a home again.
