Jonah: A Monday lunch works perfect for me.
- a few hours later -
Jonah: ...did you actually run out of Breadstix in tears, Maisie?
Jonah: Was it because of m| [deleted]
Jonah: I'm so sorry... if I had known, I'd have come and seen you afterwards.
hattiewildeā:
Near enough everyone has suggested Scandals, so I guess thatās where Iāll be going if Lima has nothing else to offer. Do you not enjoy a night out dancing then?
Thank you, Iām super excited to be part of the family.
-
I mean, I like dancingĀ but Iām just not really a club guy. Itās partly because I donāt drink and thatās part of the fun, I think? No judgement to anyone that does do that, so long as theyāre safe about it, but itās just not something I do.
Itās a good family. Though I suppose I canāt say too much as Iāve abandoned my paramedic family to join the big dogs in the station, but you get what I mean.

ALL.THE. TIME. And itās even worse when you find out they were trying to get your attention for a minute too long. Iām over here trying to pretend Iām in a music video and they wanna interrupt my daydream to talk about how hot it is outside.
-
Dude, I feel this on a personal level because my headphones are noise-cancelling so that I can focus on whatever Iām doing so half the time, people get upset because I didnāt notice them? People sure do love the small talk, donāt they? But if it were me, Iād say that while the weather is hot, youāre hotter.
lilyjanefabrayā:ā
š
Probably because we live in a world where people donāt even use headphones for music anymore. Hell, I use mine to pretend like Iām listening to music but really Iām just listening out to everyone else around me. Itās how I heard the breadsticks from Breadstix arenāt freshly baked and are frozen. Havenāt ate there ever since.
-
You might not use headphones for music, but I do - I canāt stand earbuds because they hurt if I have them in for longer than thirty minutes, and considering that I tend to work out for longer than that, I need headphones. And considering that mine are noise-cancelling, even if I donāt have music playing, I wouldnāt be able to hear any conversations like that.
limaboundblaineā:ā
Were you wearing corded headphones or wireless? I tend to get interrupted more when Iām on Bluetooth, so I have to assume that half the time they canāt even see Iāve got headphones in āĀ
ā¦Or else they just really want to talk to you, youāre just that engaging, ha.
Wireless. But itās my pair of noise-cancelling ones, so you know theyāre kind of hard to miss and I donāt really notice anyone is trying to talk to me unless they tap me or anything.
I mean, I am pretty great, so I canāt say I blame them.
rossberryxā:ā
I am not sure. But toĀ play devilās advocate I think people are probably used to otherās tuning them out with ear phones on purpose - so they just started feeling like it doesnāt matter if they interrupt people with headphones on or not. But i truly donāt know, because I still avoid bothering people when they have on headphones I usually take it as they donāt want to be bothered or that they are in the zone and trying to finish up something.Ā
Iām not much of an headphones wearer, I usually listen to my stuff on speaker - which is probably annoying to a lot of people.
See, thatās the thing though - I wear headphones, not ear buds, so itās not hard to miss. Not to mention my attention was obviously on my sketchpad, so itās not like Iām putting on the headphones just for show. Like, I get that she just wanted to thank me for helping her when she needed us, but... thereās a time and place?
You... listen to your stuff on speaker when youāre in public? How?
hopeandtruthā:
š„
Annoy me as he might, I do have a brother to drag along to such things, but I guess the offer is nice. Iām still deciding if Iām even getting a new one anyway, decisions, decisions.
-
Well, just know that the offer is on the table regardless.
Apart from your car troubles, though, how have you been doing? Iāve heard... a little bit of what your family is going through. Iām sorry. My dad isnāt the most accepting of guys, but I donāt think even he would cut his kids off... financially or otherwise...

Itās probably a combination of things⦠music being a bit of a stepping stone for people as an ice breaker.Ā Also you can move the headphones and listen to a conversation and the music, if you so choose, as opposed to if you were reading a book.Ā The fact that you had a sketch pad too though, well, it just sounds like someone really wanted to talk to you, or meet you or something.Ā Ā
Thatās just my two cents though.Ā Hopefully people start taking the hint though, I guess.
Itās crazy, Leo. Iād understand if it was earbuds or something I had in because you know, those are harder to see, but Iām wearing actualĀ headphones so itās not like you canātĀ see them. And to make matters worse, theyāre noise-cancelling so if they try to have a conversation with me before I pull the headphones off, they get offended because I didnāt hear them? I donāt get it.
I guess youāre right, though. They probably just wanted to meet me. Canāt say I blame them, though, I guess - I amĀ a pretty great guy, if I say so myself. Totally humble, too.
theomcintoshā:
.
god, i know what you mean. iāve had it happen while i was on a phone call with earbuds in, like how do you not notice? unless they just think iām talking to myself, but even then if i was on their end i would definitely look the other way. and itās like always old people, so you canāt tell them to fuck off like anyone else and have to try to indulge them. just donāt be too nice or theyāll try to set you up with one of their grandkids and good luck getting out of thatĀ one.
-
Oh, trust me, that has happened to me. More than once, actually. Itās kind of what you get when youāre a paramedic and youāre making sure that theyāre okay before the ambulances get there - they see a handsome young thing in a uniform and immediately thinkĀ āoh, my grandchild would love youā. Truthfully, I think they just try and live vicariously through their grandkid, but thatās just me.
Itās good to know that Iām not the only one that suffers through that, but considering that Iām seeing someone, I doĀ have a way to get out of it. At least now. I did have to go on one date, and it wasnāt bad - they just werenāt my type.
blaslcpezā:
š
I mean I would like to think if I smelled as bad as I worry that I do, well no not that I smell bad but like if I smelled like the dogs I spend all day with, that you wouldnāt be thinking about anything that involved me like that. But it is good to know that even if I did, that itās not an issue for you. I do need to hear you say it though, what is at the top of your to-do list when you see me?
-
Honestly, I think youāre probably safe? And if I had to take a guess, I think some people would prefer youād smell like dogs than some of the other scents that are out there.
Oh, come on now, Blas... I know youāre not that stupid. I mean, I know it has been awhile since we last spent time together, but Iām sure you can look underneath those luscious locks and into your mind to find a memory to give you the answer.
lianndriaclaringtonā:
š
Thatās still very nice of you.
I live a very free and self indulgent lifestyle. I feel like I would just end up annoying anyone who lived with me due to that. Not everyone can keep up with my enjoyments which isnāt their fault.Ā
Well, I appreciate that, but itās just who I am. If Iām not going to drink, I might as well make sure other people are being safe.
Ah, I see. I can sort of get that. Iām not really at my place that much, really, because Iām usually either working or working out - thatās kind of what you get when youāre a probie - so when Iām home Iām usually just sleeping and as far as I know, it doesnāt bother Leo thatĀ much.
Though I could be wrong and theyāre just being really, really polite about it.

What: Breadstix Blind Date
Who: Jonah & @rossberryxā
When: Friday, July 16th, evening
If you had to ask Jonah, he truthfully didnāt know why he had signed up for this blind date thing. At the time it had sounded fun, a chance to meet someone and get to know them better, but over the course of the past few weeks, Jonah had found himself dating someone and though they werenāt exclusive, he was really enjoying being with them. But he wasnāt one to back out of something, and though he had feelings for the person he was dating, he was going to give this blind date thing a shot. So, wearing a grey tee underneath a black blazer and a pair of black slacks, Jonah headed into the Italian-themed restaurant and took a deep breath, running his hand through his hair.
Soon enough, he was being seated and after being given a glass of water - to which he thanked the waiter - he leaned back against his seat and waited, trying to ignore the weight of his phone in his pocket. He couldnāt focus too much on Maisie - he had to be present and see what would happen here.
