Near enough everyone has suggested Scandals, so I guess that’s where I’ll be going if Lima has nothing else to offer. Do you not enjoy a night out dancing then?

I mean, I like dancing but I’m just not really a club guy. It’s partly because I don’t drink and that’s part of the fun, I think? No judgement to anyone that does do that, so long as they’re safe about it, but it’s just not something I do.

ALL.THE. TIME. And it’s even worse when you find out they were trying to get your attention for a minute too long. I’m over here trying to pretend I’m in a music video and they wanna interrupt my daydream to talk about how hot it is outside.

Probably because we live in a world where people don’t even use headphones for music anymore. Hell, I use mine to pretend like I’m listening to music but really I’m just listening out to everyone else around me. It’s how I heard the breadsticks from Breadstix aren’t freshly baked and are frozen. Haven’t ate there ever since.

Were you wearing corded headphones or wireless? I tend to get interrupted more when I’m on Bluetooth, so I have to assume that half the time they can’t even see I’ve got headphones in – 

…Or else they just really want to talk to you, you’re just that engaging, ha.

Wireless. But it’s my pair of noise-cancelling ones, so you know they’re kind of hard to miss and I don’t really notice anyone is trying to talk to me unless they tap me or anything.

I am not sure. But to  play devil’s advocate I think people are probably used to other’s tuning them out with ear phones on purpose - so they just started feeling like it doesn’t matter if they interrupt people with headphones on or not. But i truly don’t know, because I still avoid bothering people when they have on headphones I usually take it as they don’t want to be bothered or that they are in the zone and trying to finish up something. 

I’m not much of an headphones wearer, I usually listen to my stuff on speaker - which is probably annoying to a lot of people.

See, that’s the thing though - I wear headphones, not ear buds, so it’s not hard to miss. Not to mention my attention was obviously on my sketchpad, so it’s not like I’m putting on the headphones just for show. Like, I get that she just wanted to thank me for helping her when she needed us, but... there’s a time and place?

Annoy me as he might, I do have a brother to drag along to such things, but I guess the offer is nice. I’m still deciding if I’m even getting a new one anyway, decisions, decisions.

Well, just know that the offer is on the table regardless.

It’s probably a combination of things… music being a bit of a stepping stone for people as an ice breaker.  Also you can move the headphones and listen to a conversation and the music, if you so choose, as opposed to if you were reading a book.  The fact that you had a sketch pad too though, well, it just sounds like someone really wanted to talk to you, or meet you or something.  

That’s just my two cents though.  Hopefully people start taking the hint though, I guess.

It’s crazy, Leo. I’d understand if it was earbuds or something I had in because you know, those are harder to see, but I’m wearing actual headphones so it’s not like you can’t see them. And to make matters worse, they’re noise-cancelling so if they try to have a conversation with me before I pull the headphones off, they get offended because I didn’t hear them? I don’t get it.

god, i know what you mean. i’ve had it happen while i was on a phone call with earbuds in, like how do you not notice? unless they just think i’m talking to myself, but even then if i was on their end i would definitely look the other way. and it’s like always old people, so you can’t tell them to fuck off like anyone else and have to try to indulge them. just don’t be too nice or they’ll try to set you up with one of their grandkids and good luck getting out of that one.

Oh, trust me, that has happened to me. More than once, actually. It’s kind of what you get when you’re a paramedic and you’re making sure that they’re okay before the ambulances get there - they see a handsome young thing in a uniform and immediately think ‘oh, my grandchild would love you’. Truthfully, I think they just try and live vicariously through their grandkid, but that’s just me.

I mean I would like to think if I smelled as bad as I worry that I do, well no not that I smell bad but like if I smelled like the dogs I spend all day with, that you wouldn’t be thinking about anything that involved me like that. But it is good to know that even if I did, that it’s not an issue for you. I do need to hear you say it though, what is at the top of your to-do list when you see me?

Honestly, I think you’re probably safe? And if I had to take a guess, I think some people would prefer you’d smell like dogs than some of the other scents that are out there.

That’s still very nice of you.

I live a very free and self indulgent lifestyle. I feel like I would just end up annoying anyone who lived with me due to that. Not everyone can keep up with my enjoyments which isn’t their fault. 

Well, I appreciate that, but it’s just who I am. If I’m not going to drink, I might as well make sure other people are being safe.

Ah, I see. I can sort of get that. I’m not really at my place that much, really, because I’m usually either working or working out - that’s kind of what you get when you’re a probie - so when I’m home I’m usually just sleeping and as far as I know, it doesn’t bother Leo that much.

If you had to ask Jonah, he truthfully didn’t know why he had signed up for this blind date thing. At the time it had sounded fun, a chance to meet someone and get to know them better, but over the course of the past few weeks, Jonah had found himself dating someone and though they weren’t exclusive, he was really enjoying being with them. But he wasn’t one to back out of something, and though he had feelings for the person he was dating, he was going to give this blind date thing a shot. So, wearing a grey tee underneath a black blazer and a pair of black slacks, Jonah headed into the Italian-themed restaurant and took a deep breath, running his hand through his hair.

Soon enough, he was being seated and after being given a glass of water - to which he thanked the waiter - he leaned back against his seat and waited, trying to ignore the weight of his phone in his pocket. He couldn’t focus too much on Maisie - he had to be present and see what would happen here.
