Not to long after i finished reading ORV i made this huge as timeline to try and explain all the events that occurred. I'm not sure how the quality will turn out so here's a link to the board just incase

I think this was the most KDJ thing i did before my friend took a polaroid photo of me on my birthday (Feb 14th which is even worse) and the sun glare perfectly censored my face. I was also wearing a white trenchcoat at the time?? it happened numerous times no matter how many locations we did like i was some haunted Victorian child.

The funniest thing about this scene is Lan Wangji was actually watching Wei Wuxian finger himself intently the whole time. He only stops looking and closes his eyes refusing to look when Wei Wuxian is finished and notices him staring. Donât pretend you didnât enjoy the show Lan Wangji.
I see people throw Tsundere around for other characters but no can ever master being such a perfect Tsundere like young Lan Wangji
[i tried to sketch for this but failed so have a scribble with the writing]
Wei Wuxian was frozen in a way that he hadn't been expecting after a bite. the unsolicited noise that had been ripped out of him as a result as well had contributed to this.
Lan Wangji was also frozen, and his so called 'anger' was replaced with reddened ears and a shocked expression. He could feel Wei Wuxian's pulse quicken against his mouth, which he hadn't pulled away yet because of said shock. I...have made a mistake. He pulled his teeth away from the other's neck, glancing away repeatedly like a scolded child, unable to say a word.
Wei Wuxian lifted a hand to this bite and kept his eyes trained away in embarrassment, blinking slowly in thought. That...that's not a normal thing...right? He glanced up and saw how dark his companion's ears were, despite how dark it was. Huh...He'd never noticed the other having such a cute quirk before. Wait, wait wait wait... He shook his head and his eyes widened as he stared at the other. He flirted with girls incessantly, but he never felt like this before. He never legitimately thought of something they did as cute, just as...typical girl things, you know?
This was different.
He genuinely thought this reaction was endearing.
Oh fuck.
What did that mean? He rubbed the indents on the tense muscle, clearing his throat quietly. "Ah, Lan Zhan. You're like a dog!" He chuckles, but he finds that he's a bit more breathless than anticipated from how nervous his revelation had made him. "At least warn me next ti-"
"Shameless!" Lan Wangji's tone was slightly panicked, though Wei Wuxian wasn't sure why. This shut the youth up a little while longer before he made another attempt.
"Lan Zhan, uh...okay, um..." Wei Wuxian sighed deeply, "Come on, it's not a big deal! What's a bite between friends? I won't tell anyone you bit me there if you don't tell anyone about...that. That noise."
Lan Wangji clenched his fists over his knees, pointedly not looking over at the other youth.
Okay... Wei Wuxian takes a mental step back. Lan Wangji bit his neck. It could have been an accident, he had gotten really close in his attempt to shock the other. But...That was not an easy maneuver to do accidentally. Then it occurred to him how Lan Wangji would really not have an easy time doing that on accident. He'd have to turn his head on purpose and even then, why would this be his instinctive idea of releasing his frustrations
This seeped in rather abruptly.
...That is not an easy thing to do on accident.
He suddenly was staring at Lan Wangji for a longer time than anticipated, and he could tell Lan Wangji was squirming from the intensity of it.
Lan Wangji most certainly did not like MianMian.
Wei Wuxian slowly dropped his hand away from his neck and twiddled his fingers, some sort of warmth and twisting squirming in his gut.
"Lan Zhan..."
Lan Wangji's eyes flit around on the ground once he was addressed, but eventually his usually frosted eyes met pale anthracite blue.
"Stop looking like i'm going to kick you." Wei Wuxian grabbed the others hand despite the jolt of objection and pressed the shaken youth's hand to his neck after a bit of struggle to allow the other to feel his still racing pulse. He glanced down, then back up to the other, who still looked like he wanted to run away like a frightened, angry bunny.
"Lan Zhan, look what you've done to me." He pressed the other's fingers against the ridges of the bite, watching the other's shoulders hike up in a needless defense. "Can you feel how deep you bit me?" He grinned slightly, "Shouldn't i be the one that is startled?"
"Wei Ying!" Lan Wangji managed to wrench his hand away, cradling it to his chest as if burned and turning his head away.
Wei Wuxian pouted slightly, crawling a bit closer since Lan Wangji couldn't really get up and run away in his condition. Plus, where would he go if they did? "Lan Zhan, we're gonna be here for quite some time. You might as well start talking before i do."
Lan Wangji only turned his head enough to shift his eyes into that usual frosty glare, but Wei Wuxian found that it was suddenly...much less cold. He smiled in return, pulling on the other's hand again. "Lan Zhan..."
Lan Wangji's eyes widened into saucers as his hand was once again pulled back to rest against the other's neck.
"Do you like being able to see and feel the mark you made that much?" the little glance down made Lan Wangji's breath hitch. He did not glance at the other's open lapels.
"Cuz...you know...i think i might have, too."
[for obvious reasons i am stopping this here...uh, but...hope you liked it? KSFSAJG-- ]

Monthly PASH! Dec 2021, Radio Drama "Madou Soshi" interview with Suzuki Tatsuhisa and Hino Satoshi*
*The JP audio drama voice actors for WWX and LWJ respectively
Special thanks to @kimalysong for providing the article <3
Translatorâs disclaimer: Personal names, titles, and place names do NOT GET GLOSSED in the audio drama. I will be using their Japanese transliterations. LONG POST WARNING! I promise it's worth it for all the chibi art during the episode recap.
A continuation of the Radio Drama âMadou soshiâ Season 2 Part A series cast interview from the September issue, with Gi Musen (=Wei Wuxian)âs voice actor, Suzuki Tatsuhisa, and Ran Bouki (=Lan Wangji)âs voice actor, Hino Satoshi! These two are suddenly intimate after the conclusion to the Gi castle (=Yi City^1) incident. Just what in the world happened on the night they spent together at the innâŠ? Letâs take a look at the original novelâs world completely reenacted with voice and sound!
Gi Miusen (voiced by Suzuki Tatsuhisa)
A free and uncontrollable personality coupled with a distaste for following the rules. At age 15, he studied abroad at the Cloud Recesses, but initially got glowered at a lot by a strait-laced Ran Bouki, whom he met there. Later, he created the Demonic Path (=éé madou), and came to be called the âIryou Elder (=Yiling Patriarch).â
Ran Bouki (voiced by Hino Satoshi)
[A gentleman of] irreproachable conduct, but an extraordinary lightweight when it comes to alcohol. Probably due to the fact that he is overly taciturn, his brother Ran Gishin (=Lan Xichen) has had to convey his feelings by proxy. He quickly figured out that Baku Genâu (=Mo Xuanyu)âs true identity was the resurrected Gi Musen. How on earth did he do itâŠ?

â¶ââžââœââ is â âââœâŸâ·âŸââșâč!
On the verge of a major disaster scenario!!
Instead of a taciturn Ran Bouki, Gi MusenâŠ
During the incident on the roof, Gi Musen learned that Ran Bouki has someone he likes. However, presumably from his naĂŻve demeanor, it did not appear that he has a strong relationship with them. But drunk Ran Bouki went from his usual strait-laced to an unimaginable degree of selfish and assertive, and instead it was Gi Musen being manipulated. âŠA lot of things happened, and this one eveningâs activities could not be seen by the juniors under any circumstances; Gi Musen and Ran Bouki have unmistakably closed the gap.
Presently, at Golden Carp Tower, where Ranryou Kin (=Lanling Jin) clan is based and Kin Kouyou (=Jin Guangyao) works as sect leader, Gi Musen had forcibly empathized (infiltrate a spiritâs memories and retrieved information from their lifetime) with the head of the murdered Jou Meiketsu (=Nie Mingjue); he saw glimpses of the past in those memories, of when the Venerated Triad first encountered each other, and when things broke down. What exactly did Gi Musen see in Jou Meiketsuâs memories!?
Tears from the Gi castle incident that happened before staying at the inn
Gi Musen and Ran Bouki, on their search for the true identity of the young manâs [severed] hand, âappearing to have been guided by someoneâ arrived at Gi castle. There they were led around by the spirit of a blind girl they came across, Sei-chan (=A-Qing). Having discovered the corpse of Daoist Gyou Seijin (=Xiao Xingchen), Gi Musen empathized with Sei-chan to learn that Setsu You (=Xue Yang) caused Gyou Seijinâs death!
Gyou Seijin, voiced by Tachibana Shinnosuke
Setsu You, voiced by Kondou Takashi
What exactly is it that we canât show the kids?
Although Gi Musen failed to capture Setsu You, he was exhausted from empathizing with Sei-chan and from his fight with Setsu You. He wound up going out to a restaurant with Ran Bouki and Kin Ryou (=Jin Ling), along with the other boys they met in Gi castle, and headed for a private room alone with Ran Bouki. âIsnât that private room kind of squishy?â Ran Keigi (=Lan Jingyi) called out to them. However, according to Gi Musen, kids and adults should have separate rooms. Because there are some things they couldnât exactly show the kids!?
Ran Shitsui (=Lan Sizhui) voiced by Kobayashi Yusuke
Kin Ryou voiced by Murase Ayumu
Ran Shitsui: We ought to separate the sempaisâ seats and ours.
Gi Musen: Cause there are some things we canât show the kids.
Kin Ryou: Whoâd bother looking!
The tribulations^2 of young master Ran Boukiâs heart! Its true state is a spoiled child, jealous of On Nei (=Wen Ning)
These actions later unintentionally beckoned disaster little by little, wherein Gi Musen, while enjoying his meal, recommended liquor to Ran Bouki. No sooner did the liquor make its way to him, than he fell asleep; he found On Nei, who came to meet Gi Musen, and suddenly kicked him! Moreover, he covered his ears as if he just didnât want to hear what On Nei had to say, and ended up ignoring him. He pouted like a child alright!
On Nei, voiced by Hoshi Souichirou
Ran Bouki: hmm
On Nei: Itâs okay
Did Ran Bouki really take that headband off!?
Drunk Ran Bouki was quite amusing. Against his better judgment, Gi Musen teased him, âwill you do whatever I say?â Ran Bouki, who used to be irate with Gi Musen whenever he touched the headband in the past, replied âuh huhâ and simply took it off! On top of that, he bound both of Gi Musenâs hands tightly with the headband, and took him back to the inn in that state. What initiative! But they were found by the boys, starting with Ran Shitsui, and thatâs when things got dicey⊠Â
Ran Keigi, voiced by Shimono Hiro
Ran Shitsui: I had no idea that our headbands could be used like that đŠ
Ran Keigi: Isnât that not ok?
To Gi Musenâs kiss, a serious Ran Bouki isâŠ
As soon as they arrived at the inn, Ran Bouki locked the door, and ordered [Gi Musen] to âlay down.â Furthermore, he pinned Gi Musen down, and covered his mouth! And then Gi Musen bit his hand in an attempt to counter attack, but his plan was a bust. He kissed it instead. In an instant, Ran Bouki, overwhelmed with shock, sat on the bed hugging his knees, depressed.
Gi Musen: âŠare you satisfied?
Ran Bouki: âŠ
A one-night romance and a one-man postmortem
Even though he ought to have succeeded, for some reason Gi Musen was wrapped in feelings of guilt toward Ran Boukiâs mannerisms. Furthermore, he complied with Ran Boukiâs request, and they began clamoring about playing tag! Moreover, it seemed like Ran Bouki was just waiting to be caught, and Gi Musen, engulfed by the atmosphere, dropped a kiss on Ran Boukiâs lips after all⊠Finally coming to his senses, Gi Musen regrets having crossed a like teasing Ran Bouki.
Gi Musen: What do I do? I took Ran Zanâs^3 first.
Ran Bouki: hmm. You reap what you sow.
Advice from Kin Ryou!?
A silver lining perhaps? The next morning Ran Bouki did not remember a single thing about their âheadband playâ or the kiss. If perhaps he did remember, Gi Musen could not deny the possibility of being torn limb from limb⊠He shuddered involuntarily imagining it. But Kin Ryou was suspicious of Gi Musenâs relationship with Ran Bouki. Originally, there was a rumor that Baku Genâu (whose body Gi Musen is borrowing) was homosexual, and Kin Ryou was drawn in slightly, but because Kin Ryou knows the meaning of the headband, he recognized their âexclusiveâ relationshipâŠ!?
Kin Ryou: You better stay by Gankoukun (=Hanâguang jun)âs side. Cheatingâs a no go.
Ran Shitsui: The Koso Ran (=Gusu Lan) clanâs founder, Ran An, once said: âonly in front of your fated personâthe person to whom you entrust your heartâdo you not have to be restrained by anything.â Tying up other people with the headband is absurd⊠Taboo, so to speak.Â
Does Ran Gishin have the same problem with alcohol!? This is a danger you should not mix with, Ran Brothers!
Following their household rule, âthou shalt not imbibe liquor,â Ran Gishin and Ran Bouki enjoy tea on a moonlit evening. But Ran Gishin accidentally brought booze! Which he noticed too lateâŠÂ That gentle-mannered Ran Gishin gave an impassioned speech, and jumped on top of the arbor! He began looking everywhere for the âxiaoâ (vertical flute) he was already holding. Ran Bouki is Ran Bouki, and said he wanted the flute like a child; the usual stiff countenance between them had totally collapsed. In conclusion, Alcohol in the Ran family is strictly forbidden! Letâs follow the family rules! Ran Keijin (=Lan Qiren) sensei, thank you for your hard work.
Ran Gishin voiced by Morikawa Toshiyuki
Ran Keijin voiced by Shingaki Tarusuke
Ran Keijin: Hurry up and return to your room! Face the wall, and reflect on what youâve done!
Ran Gishin: Alrighty, letâs go! In the name of justice, I will crush evil!!
Thereâs no one besides Gankoukun anymore!?
Gi Musenâs head spins when he hears from Ran Shitsui that âthe people of the Koso Ran clan only take off their headbands in front of the partner theyâve entrusted their heart to.â In other words, the events of last night were like a declaration to their surroundings that their relationship was âlike that.â
Then, the headless crazy corpse attacked. Gi Musen, for whom Ran Boukiâs counterattack ended things without incident, headed to the Golden Carp Tower to search for its identity. On the other hand, Baku Genâuâs homosexual reputation at the Golden Carp Tower was bad, and [continues to be] a vulgar rumor haunting Kin Kouyou. In order to dispel it, Gi Musen began overacting: âIâm over Renpouson (=Lian3fang1zun1). Iâm with Gankoukun (Ran Bouki) now!â But Kin Ryou was truly put off by his behavior, and Ran Bouki tired of sighingâ.
Gi Musen: I have conviction⊠I wonât leave him again.
Ran Bouki: *sigh*
Kin Ryou: Y-you--!
Gi Musenâs voice actor: SUZUKI TATSUHISA
Text by Igarashi Akito
I think Gi Musen would hate deceiving himself more than hiding his identity.
(The interview was conducted in May.) Suzuki Tatsuhisa. Affiliated with Iâm Enterprise. Other performances include: Tachibana Makoto in âFreeâThe Final Strokeâ, Ryuuguuji Ken in âTokyo Revengersâ, and Ronove Lomiere in âWelcome to Demon School! Iruma-kunâ.
The story has gotten more interesting with this change in the feeling of distance [between Gi Musen] and Ran Bouki.
âRadio drama âMadou soshiâ has become quite a long story, but do you have a favorite scene in Season 2 Part A?
Recording the scene at the inn with Hinocchi (Ran Boukiâs actor, Hino Satoshi) in episode 4 was profoundly memorable. For just this scene, the studio let us record alone, and that made it easier to to capture the [feeling of] distance between [Gi Musen] and Ran Bouki, and the scene I recorded with Gi Musen alone after that was able to run smoothly. Moreover, I think that the story has gotten more interesting with Gi Musen and Ran Bouki having gotten closer.
âYou spoke about how much fun you had recording together in the previous interview as well.
Weâre able to get a good feel for each other while recording, and exchange opinions on staff requests. Weâve also proposed things to the staff like âhow about we perform this way?â Thanks to that, there have been almost no retakes. Itâs been pretty smooth sailing.
âWhen Ran Bouki is drunk he gets good at being spoiled. What happens when you drink, Suzuki-san?
Iâve had a lot of failures with alcohol, and I donât remember most of them, so you might want to ask some of the other voice actors (laughs).
â(Laughs) So youâve been alcohol free up until recently?
I used to be able to have a bottle or two just fine, but once in a while, when I have a can of beer, I get dizzy. Iâve become a total lightweight (laughs).Â
âThe Gi castle arc did not put Gi Musen in the spotlight until episode 3. In the latter half, there was a showdown between Gi Musen and Setsu You. Could we get your thoughts on the Gi castle arc?
The Gi castle arc is the first time Gi Musen isnât involved much, and digs deeper into other characters. The Gi castle arc in particular depicts a story about people slipping past each other and how heartrending it is. Because of that, I thought it was really disappointing that the cast members couldnât record together (due to COVID-19 prevention measures). At the time of this interview, I havenât listened to the entire piece so Iâm looking forward to the cast of the Gi castle arcâs performance.Â
âAfter the Gi castle arc, the broadcast focuses on the Venerated Triad (san son/san1zun1). The actions Kin Kouyou, who seems like a good person, have somehow become suspicious. Could we get your thoughts on the Venerated Triad episode?
Iâm nervous about Kin Kouyouâs sketchy movements. Up until now, Gi Musen has been wrapped up in incidents, but Gi Musen himself starts to move toward the resolution to the Venerated Triad incident. As a result, the suspicious peopleâs true identities and the reality of their situation will slowly but surely come to light, so I absolutely want you to pay attention. A ton of characters besides Gi Musen have plenty to say to him, so personally, I get to relax with fewer lines (laughs).
âYouâre also playing a child role this time, Rin Sei (=Lin Qing)^4
I kind of feel bad that Iâve been tasked with the part out of the many voice actors who take on child roles. Honestly, Iâm worried about whether I can put out a high-quality performance.
âYou were quite adorable.
Thank you very much (laughs).
âDid you have to practice to make your voice sound young?
I didnât do anything special, just observed my friendâs 2â3-year-olds. If kids talk more lucidly than adults think, itâd be fun seeing them suddenly start acting entitled, or doing something you donât expect. I try to reference childrenâs behavior and the way they speak when I play one.
âDo you have favorite mini theater story?
Mini theater episode 1, âThe Damsel of Annual Blossoms^5.â There might have been kanshi (=Chinese poetry) in that one? Japan has a fresh take on its grasp of different poetry and presentation. I had a lot of fun thinking about things like how to exaggerate which expressions where.
âThe cast [of MDZS] has increased quite considerably. Do you have a current favorite character?
Ran Shitsui and Ran Keigiâthe Ran juniors are interesting. When those two saw drunk Ran Bouki tied up Gi Musen with his headband at the inn, they were well deceived by Gi Musen, and matched their conversation to the atmosphere. Like, âah, I imagined the Ran family was only full of perfect superhumans, but even they have such an unexpected side to themâ (laughs). I also like how Gi Musen, through his involvement with Ran Bouki, understands how to treat the Ran family. It was different from how he connected with the village children, and, whether heâs confiding his heart in the Ran family, or while undertaking the juniorsâ impatience or indiscretions due to their youth, I think a laughing Gi Musen is a fresh Gi Musen.
âThe fact that Baku Genâu is the Iryou Elder may finally be exposed to the surrounding [cast].
Isnât it ok that the catâs out of the bag (laughs)? I feel like maybe, whenever it was that Ran Bouki figured it out, other people already knew. I think Gi Musen would hate deceiving himself more than hiding his identity.
âLastly, do you have anything to say to the fans anticipating the Season 2 Part B broadcast?
While the story of season 1 had Gi Musen and Ran Bouki as the focal point, season 2 gives the spotlight to other charactersâ points of view. I joked earlier about how relieved I feel that Gi Musen has fewer lines; I think that is ultimately because the element of parallel story lines has gotten stronger. The backbone of characters whom we didnât have much to say about until now is starting to be depicted in more detail, and I can see a new allure. Please stay tuned for how Gi Musen and Ran Boukiâs relationship develops!
Ran Boukiâs actor: HINO SATOSHI
Itâs funny to see how Ran Gishin and Ran Bouki are different kinds of drunks. Honestly, I didnât expect that (laughs).
Hino Satoshi. Affiliated with AXLONE. Other performances include: Kamo Noritoshi in âJujutsu Kaisenâ, Ainz Ooal Gown in âOverlordâ, and Rengoku Kyoujurou in âDemon Slayer: Kimetsu no yaibaâ.Â
If they could understand each other, he might be friends with On Nei.
âIf you could pick a favorite scene or interaction in season two, where would it be?
It would obviously be an interaction between Gi Musen and Ran Bouki. The scene in episode 4 with drunk Ran Bouki and Gi Musen teasingly chasing after him was especially memorable, personally. After that, Kashinkun^6 (=Hexinjun) had quite a bit of screen time, but I laughed, unfortunately.
âThe truth of the matter is Ran Bouki mustnât drink⊠I suspect that not just Gi Musen but also the listeners noticed that a little (laugh). Could you give us your thoughts on the drunkenness incident?
Tatsu (Suzuki Tatsuhisa) and I had a lot of lines together during this scene. Based on that, Ran Bouki and Gi Musenâs expressions and feelings could be felt more intimately now than ever, so their affection has increased considerably.  Â
âDrunk Ran Bouki showed a normally unfathomable demeanor by kicking On Nei. What do you think about Ran Bouki and On Neiâs relationship?
From Ran Boukiâs perspective, heâs jealous, isnât he (laughs). Because, heâs somehow tough on On Nei every time. But I feel that if they could understand each other, theyâd surely be good friends.Â
âYou also took on the child role of Kashinkun. The playfulness of your performance between Ran Bouki tying up Gi Musen with the headband and Kanshinkun discovering that situation was quite interesting.
Kanshinkun is a young boy so it was difficult for me to maintain his expression overflowing with youth and sound quality of his voice (laughs). But I really enjoyed that performance.
âThe mini theater episode this time also revolves around alcohol. I understand both brothers are total lightweights, but could I hear your thoughts on drunk Ran Gishin?
Itâs funny that heâs a completely different kind of drunk than Ran Bouki. Honestly, I didnât expect that (laughs). Because I imagined he might be a heavyweight of his own accord.
âThe cast has increased quite a bit. Who is currently your favorite character?
The older brother, Ran Gishin, as usual!
âRadio drama âMadou soshiâ records with the participation of Chinese staff remoting in. Did any exchanges with the staff leave a lasting impression on you?
For impressionsâbecause I would always attend recordings while discussing things with both Chinese and Japanese production staff together, [through] that sort of scrupulous back and forth, weâve been able to build a reliable relationship, so that the awesomeness of the original work can be conveyed even in Japanese. I feel that every time we record. Â
â Lastly, do you have anything to say to the fans anticipating the Season 2 Part B broadcast?
Thank you very much for enjoying radio drama âMadou soshiâ season 2 part A! The circumstances Gi Musen and Ran Bouki are wrapped up in will continue to change and expand greatly. Please look forward to the continuation in radio drama âMadou soshiâ season 2 part B.

^2: äč±ćż ranshin, midaregokoro comes up in the dictionary as âmadness,â but I feel like that doesnât work in context. His âheartâ is in âchaos.â Heâs confused. Heâs fretting. Heâs been caught up in worldly desires. Heâs suffering a tumult of emotional turmoil. Letâs not accuse him of mental illness without good reason. âYoung Masterâ isnât specifically in that header, but prefix go- in go-ranshin makes it overly formal. I had to stick the formality somewhere, as itâs markedly absent in every other header.
^3: This is an interesting little inconsistency. The Japanese reading of æč zhan4 is tan. The novel approximates zhan4 as jan. Not totally sure how they wound up at zan. Maybe someone at the studio asked the Chinese staffers to pronounce a word, and thatâs what they heard? Maybe the transcriptionist made a typo? Again, I canât check because everything after Season 1 Part A Episode 3 is paywalled.
^4: A radio drama original character. One of the junior cultivators from the Yi city arc. In the Chinese version, he is voiced by We Wuxianâs actor, Lu Zhixing è·Żç„èĄ.
^5: For those of you reading ExR, refer to the end of Allure Part 2 starting around page 309. For those of you reading 7s, refer to volume 2 chapter 9 page 215.
^6: A radio drama original character. One of the junior cultivators from the Yi city arc. In the Chinese version, he is voiced by Lan Wangjiâs actor, Wei Chao éè¶ .
I donât know if this is going to be a controversial post but I kind of feel there are two extremes when it comes to Wei Wuxianâs life at Jiangs in the fandom and I kind of disagree with both.
Like one extreme is he was treated so incredibly wonderfully that JFM treated him better than his own son.
The other extreme is that young Wei Wuxian lived in abject misery at the Jiangs.
Neither of these are the truth. The first really comes from a place of classism. We find out things like JFM asked Jiang Cheng to give us his dogs because Wei Wuxian had an extreme phobia because of his life on the streets. JFM picked up Wei Wuxian a couple times (note the book does not say that he picked him up all the time) or that JFM praised Wei Wuxian with a well done for killing an ancient beast.
Wei Wuxian even got to sit at the main family table and go to school. My my how shocking!
Here is the thing that people seem to ignore Wei Wuxian didnât have a family to sit and eat meals with. He didnât have his own father to tell him well done instead. He didnât have anyone to comfort or pick him up. He had no one at all. He was all alone. These are simple acts to treat Wei Wuxian like a human being that get warped by YZY and some in the fandom that JFM favored WWX over his own son. Instead we see JFMâs last words to WWX were to look after Jiang Cheng. Because in the end while JFM did treat WWX kindly he ultimately saw him as the same as WWXâs father the right hand man to his son.
On the other side of the spectrum I think some fans exaggerate that Wei Wuxianâs time at the Jiangs was being spent in abject misery. Now YZY was extremely resentful and abusive to him so no he wasnât living the perfect fairy tale life as some people claim. But the text also makes note she was gone most of the time on night hunts and barely was at Lotus Pier.
Wei Wuxianâs still has good memories at Lotus Pier with his Shidi, with Jiang Yanli and yes even with a young Jiang Cheng. When Wei Wuxian wants to show Lan Wangji all the places of his childhood at Lotus Pier and tell him all the adventures of his youth this is not the words of someone who had a completely miserable childhood.
Wei Wuxian is a character who always makes the best of things. He is a character who is happy with the simple things in life. So yes that may mean Wei Wuxian will not focus on any negative things that he experienced at Lotus Pier and will only look back at the positives. But I think sometimes the nuance is lost in fandom that there were both good and bad things about his time at Lotus Pier. It may not have been a perfect fairytale life but I think Wei Wuxian is still grateful he he was taken off the streets and had the childhood he did.
As much as I love MDZS I donât think it is a book with zero flaws. Sometimes I wish MXTX gave more details on certain events or was less vague on others.
However one thing I will always defend is the way she did the flashbacks in the book.
I see so many complaints that the flashbacks are confusing because itâs not done in a linear fashion. No offense but if you canât follow a non-linear storyline thatâs not the fault of the novel but perhaps your own lack of reading skill.
And yes maybe some things are confusing at first because news flash not everything has to make complete sense at the start of the story. The flashbacks are presented in such a way because MXTX slowly reveals truths in the story.
One of the things I love about MDZS is itâs super fun to go back to and analyze because there probably is a lot you donât immediately catch the first time. To me that is one of the novels many strengths.

One of the things I love is how MXTX uses repetition to recall us back to earlier scenes. Wangxian sex dynamics really are just them reliving their Cloud Recesses Days. I love them so much.
Wei WuXian had always forgot about the pain after the cut healed. Although, on the first day, he suffered greatly from the silencing spell, after a few moments, his mouth started to itch again. After recklessly speaking a few times, he was silenced once more. He couldnât open his mouth. - EXR Refinement Part 5
The two of them were drenched all over in glistening sweat. Wei Wuxian had always forgotten the taste of pain as soon as his injuries had healed. Despite having just suffered the consequences of his actions, he soon opened his mouth again to pant some more nonsense. - Big Bad Red Panda 111 Extended
Wei WuXian spoke as if he didnât have any dignity, âIâm sorry, Iâm sorry, Iâm sorry, Iâm sorry, Iâm sorry, Iâm sorry, Iâm sorry. I can repeat it however many times you want me to. I can even say it while kneeling down.â EXR Refinement Part 5
Ge! Ge! Er-gege! Spare me! Mercy, please spare me. Fine, fine, Iâll stop talking, youâre amazing, youâre the best. I canât bear it anymore, I really canât, donât be like thisâŠâ Lan Wangji was incapable of withstanding his teasing at a time like this. This last dozen thrusts seemed to scramble Wei Wuxianâs insides, making him beg for mercy in a pitying tone but Lan Wangji exerted more strength instead⊠Facing at last retribution, Wei Wuxian kissed him cajolingly while pleading without a shred of dignity, - Big Bad Red Panda Ch 111 Extended
Seeing that he finally teased Lan WangJi to the point that he started to talk, the former silently chuckled to himself, as if he finally saw the clouds disperse and the moon appear. - EXR Refinement Part 5
Lan Wangji smiled faintly and repeated, âNo, I canât.â Seeing his smile, Wei Wuxianâs eyes lit up again as he felt himself floating in bliss as though he were an immortal, his whereabouts unknown. However, in no time at all, he was again reduced to tears by the same face whose smile could summon the spring breeze and chase away storms. - Chiaki_Himura Chapter 111
I love this comparison especially. Teen Wei Wuxian just getting Lan wangji to talk to him makes the clouds disperse and the moon appear. Years later seeing Lan Wangjiâs beautiful smile will summon the spring breeze and chase away the storm clouds. I cannot wait to see what Maotuan does with this scene. đ„°
I just had to add this one. I love Wangxian and their dynamic so much I can never get enough of them.
Lan WangJi spoke, âPut your legs down.â Wei WuXianâs sitting posture was extremely improper, with a slanted body and legs propped up. - EXR Refinement Part 5
Lan Wangji picked up the teacup on the table and sipped at it, replying mildly, âSit properly.â
âThereâs no tea in the cup.â â......â Lan Wangji put down the teacup and filled it with tea before bringing it to his lips again. After a moment, he said again, â......Sit properly.â
âArenât I already sitting properly?â Wei Wuxian retorted. âIâm not even putting my feet on the table like last time.â
Lan Wangji paused slightly before replying, âThen you shouldnât put your feet elsewhere.â âAnd where did I put my feet?â Wei Wuxian asked, feigning ignorance. Wei Wuxian said, âSecond Young Master Lan has so many requests. How about you teach me how to sit properly then.â - Chiaki_Himura - Wangxian Chapter 113
