Before I start, please keep in mind that I do not mean everyone. This applies to certain people in the community, (not targeted), and is less common on places such as tumblr.

On TikTok, it’s common to see videos where they’re telling you how to pass or fit in with your desired ethnicities features. Though, it’s rare for you to find one that applies to your ethnicity if you aren’t transitioning to anywhere in East Asia.

You’ll find numerous series about East Asian things. That applies to culture, dresses, looks, etc. In most of the captions they’ll say “oh I’ll make a part two of more races and ethnicities” but it’s rare they do.

Even when the spotlight is put on East Asia, the right things are never mentioned. Stuff such as K-pop, or girls who focus a lot on makeup and plastic surgery are brought into this. When they make these videos they mention the basics of cosmetology and the most popular phenotype of that area. Yes it’s true- many East Asians have monolids and pale skin, but what about the ones with double eyelids and a tan?

The same standard is constantly pushed. Straight black hair, monolids, dark eyes, pale skin, and a thin body. That right there is fetishization and Asian fishing. You don’t care about East Asia, or the East Asian people who don’t fit a perfect beauty standard, you care about looks.

Transrace isn’t based off appearance, but culture. When you focus on a perfect standard in your transition, you are not transrace, but Asian fishing.
