Faolan considers an answer. “If I say yes, are you inclined to agree or call me mad?” he shoots back, brows raised, though after a moment of looking, he begins to smile, amused. “If someone were to get stabbed, I would be more entertained, if only because it would take genuine effort to pierce someone with weapon of this type. It’s built more for slashing - or it would be, if they had taken proper care of it.” He’s critical of most things, but the idea of these fools trying to fight with inadequate swords leaves him exasperated. “It’s neither of those things. If it were blunted, I would understand what they were trying to accomplish, and if they were sharpened, I would take it more seriously. Seems like they dug it out of their basement and decided to take a swing at each other.” Maybe she was right, maybe it was just two random people taking advantage of the stage to practice, in which case this was all the more sad. “Possibly,” he agrees.

“ No I would call you honest. Believe me that isn’t the worst thing I’ve heard someone admitting too” Sky admitted as she glanced back over at him. She worked on a  true crime podcast  and had been through a lot. She hadn’t heard everything, but believed she had heard a lot. “So how hard are we thinking they would have to push to do any damage, cause this seems pretty poorly taken care of” She added genuinely curious. Sky had a lot of knowledge, but she loved asking these questions just in case she needed more of an expert opinion. “Sounds like a last minute decision then if they didn’t prep for it. Sort puts my theory out of the question”

“This is meant to be sword fighting?” he asks, incredulous, watching the two people fight out to the encouragement from the onlookers. Its a sanctioned fight, Faolan figures, or the police officers patrolling around would be leaping on everyone without pause. “Horrible weapons, they aren’t blunted or sharpened. Did we pry them off someone’s wall? I did better on my first weapons, and that was when we still used sharpened sticks.” His arms cross, eyes narrowed critically, talking mostly to himself, but also to the person standing nearest him. It wasn’t his choice to come here, but he had lost Gabriel and Etienne several booths back, and the clinking of weapons had drawn his eyes. It was two vampires in the middle, each garbed in a separate color, and he wasn’t entirely sure what they were promoting here. Not good weapons, nor good fighting. “I really hope this isn’t supposed to be a promotion for sword fighting classes. It’s sad.”

Sky couldn’t help the smirk on her face as she crossed her arms and watched the scene taking place. She could see the varied responses to how this whole set up was going and because she found joy in misery it was fun for her to see the criticism. She wasn’t heartless by any means but she did like to stir the pot to get results usually. It was why her ears perked up at hearing a specific comment. “ Are you hoping someone would get stabbed today or something?” Sky mused as she glanced over. “ I mean blunted seems the obvious answer but you did throw out sharpened as an option too.  I actually have no idea what this is for. For all we know it’s just two people messing around and were the ones seeming like fools for entertaining them” She offered shrugging her shoulders. There was no reason for her to work right now considering her job had nothing to do with the festivities so this was all just fun for the Fae

“You’re right. Not if it incites violence.” He nodded. Truman once dated a polisci student, so he only knew as much as she told him. “I think you can still say it if it isn’t polite, but being rude doesn’t make things easier…” Not always. He could name a few instances, but he didn’t see a point to. “Oh yeah, I’ll go try that. I need more stuff to do in between checking up on patients. So are you the only podcast around here… or are there others?” He knew not to expect too much out of a small town, but he had to ask. “Y’all do bookclubs here?”

“Well you know what’s best for yourself and your career.” The vampire wasn’t too informed on what the other did, but she could tell that she was certain of what’s in her current path. “That’s good.” she replied with a nod. “And that’s what matters most. Continue to keep it up, it seems like you know what you’re doing in the long run. 

“I like to think so, I can’t say I always knew what was best for me, but then again who does? People who always seem to do the right thing seem untrustworthy to me” Sky smirked, making a joke, now that the tension was leaving her body after this conversation. “ It’s been a dream of mine to do this. I have a tendency to go dark, but there is a noble explanation behind it. Everyone deserves to have their story told you know?”

At the woman’s response, Zinaida hummed as she thought about what to say next. “Well you should definitely look into that and at least have a general sense of who they are. Your listeners have the capability to spread the word too and you can grow you know?” With a nod, the vampire added, “Exactly, also if you like what you do, then you shouldn’t let his comments get to you.” 

Sky was not typically a paranoid person, however the idea that someone could be screwing up the thing she spent so much blood, sweat, and  tears working on, did make her uncomfortable. She wasn’t however, gonna lose her cool around someone who was offering some good advice. “I could do that, but then again if I see them again I may go off. It’s debatable what would happen” Sky teased, even though she was actually dead serious. “ I am at least lucky that I’ve heard far more of the good than the bad from listeners. I love it. I think if people can hear something they may not have before and it helps keep a story alive, I know I’ve done my job well”

“Maybe not all of them, but people are usually free to say what they want. I guess that’s just how things work.” Some phrases just weren’t right and people were free to call you out on it. Truman nodded as she explained her show. He didn’t care much for true crime because he didn’t want to immerse himself in a history filled with sadness and dead ends. “Oh that’s fun. You do any streaming services around here too? Or is that not a thing?” He wasn’t sure how the technology worked in this place. “I’m down for supporting local stuff.”

The vampire tilted her head in confusion. Derivative of what? Clearly she was out of the loop. However, the woman seemed passionate of her work and in her eyes, that was enough to get upset about. “He’s one person out of how many that tune in to listen to you?” Zinaida was putting things in perspective to make better of the situation. “Stay true to your audience. That asshole clearly has no clue what he’s talking about right?” 

Sky had a temper at times over the dumbest thing’s. It was probably because she had spent so long with pent up frustration at thing’s from her past, but nonetheless she still never found a positive way to deal with it. Taking criticism or not taking it was a way it came out. “ I have no idea. I don’t know the numbers” She lied. Sky checked them all the time, but that wasn’t the point. “ He’s a dumbass. You’re right. People get so critical if people aren’t talking about the same three overdone mysteries”

Zinaida sipped on her latte as she watched the interaction occur. Confused by what went down, she listened attentively to what the other woman said and waited patiently for her to finish. “I won’t tell.” she replied at first. “But what did they say?”

“They called me derivative....The asshole” Sky muttered under her breath smirking slightly as she glanced back at the spot where they had left. She knew what she did was more popular lately, but that only helped listeners in the long run really. “ And then talked about how true crime and solving mysteries are a dying fad. I don’t think wanting to find answers for thing’s like that is a fad. This is peoples lives in some cases”

“I mean if it’s consensual then it isn’t a bad thing.” He chuckled while he watched some guy walk away. He wasn’t sure who she was or why she’d be a bitter asshole about anything, but if she was acting like a celebrity, Truman could make an educated guess. “Uh, what’s your show about?” He didn’t really watch too much TV or listen to the radio. He liked his streaming services and reading up on the news.

The last couple of days had been haywire with the reports of casualties, injured folks, and repercussions of the disaster that enriched the finale of the parade. Forest had been on the outskirts most of the time, had smelled the fire, but hadn’t investigated it. Instead, he’d called up his friends to ensure their safety. Milo and Jack were okay, who were his coworkers at TriBeCa–Jack took care of the music, Milo the book store, and Forest the cafe area.

They had yet to gain a big employee list, so it was rather hectic in the beginning with just a handful of people walking around on the floor. However, today it was still and quiet, so Forest was hanging out with Milo near the books. As his friend went to the bathroom to relieve himself, Forest took over the section and welcomed in a customer. “Let me know if I can help you with anything…”

Suddenly, a whole section of books fell on somebody and Forest ran to help them. As a werewolf, he could push the bookcase back to its standing position but that didn’t help the bump on the other’s head from growing from all the books and shelves that came tumbling onto the floor around them. Forest knelt in front of the person, moving his head to get every angle of their wound without touching it. “Are you alright?! Okay, dumb question. How can I help? Do we have a fae around here?” he called out, looking around the room. “One day of peace since I came here, that’s all I ask for,” he swore under his breath.

Sky was a watched not a participator. She had been sipping a cup of coffee as she was finding a few books for research on the show when the bookcase fell down. It wasn’t a lack of remorse or morality, but she knew that anytime she tried to help in the past people ultimately died instead. It hardened her over time to never bat an eye when people were hurt, even in the smallest or most extreme cases. For a moment Sky glanced above her book pretending like she could just pretend not to be a part off it. Until someone who she had figured out from observing was one of the owners asked for a Fae. 

Sky let out a sigh as she closed her book and got up. If she ignored this someone in the store probably already had her scent and she’d be the huge asshole who let some innocent yet horribly clumsy person get a concussion. “Yeah there’s one here” She replied walking over like it wasn’t an emergency. “ So this looks like a lawsuit if your not careful” She replied raising a brow as she crouched down beside them

Mack was laying on the floor with her container of salad on her chest as she leaned against a wall with a pillow behind her head, her left arm folded behind her head as well as she grinned at her boss and friend. “Okay, so, some personal news. I know I told you my sister is in town but… Well, steering away from the trauma behind it cuz no one wants that stuff, our nanny died when we were kids. But my sister found her. I guess she’s a lich. I mean, can you believe that? What are the friggin odds?” She pushed herself up, wincing a little. She bruised easily, due to her health she was sure, and currently, she had several on one of her arms from some tumbles she’d had drunk a few nights ago.

Sky was sitting off to the side looking at a list of topics on her laptop as she was also listening to Macks story. It was hard for to focus on just one thing. She always had gears in her head turning and not multitasking had a habit of annoying her. Everything sounded relatively normal from her friend and coworkers end until she mentioned death and them coming back. Sky glanced over, raising a brow at the revelation. “ In this town it’d very likely. “ Sky replied before looking at her screen. “ Do you ever wonder who gets picked to be a lich and who just stays dead?” Sky replied, thinking about how the love of her life had died never to come back
