There’s a specific pattern of events that plays out over and over (and over) again, and it looks something like this:

1. Social media platform becomes popular

2. Social media platform is purchased by big media corporation in order to gain access to it large user base

3. Big media corporation realises that social media platform’s demographics are not the demographics they want to sell things to.

4. Big media corporation institutes measures to drive away “undesirable” users, apparently in the honest belief that the outgoing users will automatically be replaced by an equal number of new, more demographically desirable users

5. This does not, in fact, occur

6. Social media platform crashes and burns

some advice: it may take time and patience when you don’t have a lot of money. it may make you feel bad when you fall in love with that limited or discontinued doll. (i’ve found that you can find things that you never expected to find just by paying attention; you can have the money by putting a little aside when you have extra.) it doesn’t have to mean turning over your existing collection to get a new doll - either because you need the money to get it, or because you’ve limited the number of dolls in your collection. limiting yourself to some arbitrary number can leave some people feeling just as bad as those people who feel bad for having a lot of dolls. there are people that won’t get why that is, and that’s okay. your collection is yours. it isn’t someone else’s and it isn’t up to someone else to dictate what is right or wrong in how many dolls you collect. you know your limits, you will find them. plus you can always refine your collection regardless of size.
