scrapped noldolantë verses

note:

this was centered mostly around what would sound nice/conform to some kind of rhyming scheme/cohesion in quenya, so the english is not a very good sounding song. i have taken some liberties to make it less clunky so it is also not a direct translation. no i will not be sharing my profoundly busted quenya <3

i will give you a bower in the lindens / the boughs will rock you like your cradle / their trunks will grow tall and you with them / and in the spring you will be their flower

*listen, listen my baby / listen only for a moment / for in the morning i must go away / though i wish to stay by your side

i will give you a star from heaven / to shine every night on your cradle / you will never be afraid to be without me / and never will i fear when i see your star

additional notes:

i took some of the subject matter from the lay of leithian only because i had the thought to look there for the sort of thing findaráto finds strength or comfort in- or projects those same things to others. and it ended up being pretty minor in the end. i think i only used the bird singing afar and the strength like a tower was transmogrified into the trees (incorrigible tower building elf he is).

the staying and permanence was already something that was going to be central to the lullaby because its both inevitable and impossible at the same time given the child hearing the lullaby will die and findaráto will not. so from one point of view he will always be there, more or less as he wanders in and out of everyones' lives, but the other point of view is that the child he sings to will grow old and die one day and will not stay. but the lullaby provides a placation for both of these points of view. that safety and love can be given as a foundation and felt throughout a life, that constants like the stars and ephemeral things like birdsong can bring happy memories back to light.

thirdly it's also a sort of promise and renewal of belonging. possessive my referring to the baby, fantastical promises in the case of giving someone trees to be their cradle or a star out of the sky, but it's just the simple statement that you are my own and i would do anything for you.
