𝐁𝐄𝐀𝐂𝐇 / 𝐁𝐎𝐘.

          “  𝐇𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐋𝐘,  i  eat  it  twice  or  three  times  a  week.  i’m  a  horrible  cook,  so,  take-outs  are  my  best  friends.  ”  he  chuckled,  using  his  chopsticks  to  pick  up  a  piece  of  meat  and  eagerly  threw  it  into  his  mouth  to  chew  it  up  with  an  expression  of  content  adorning  his  face.  intrigued  by  the  thought  of  indian  food  and  the  POTENTIAL  to  discover  even  more  meals  to  enjoy,  he  inquired:  “  what’s  the  best  indian  restaurant  around  here  then?  i  don’t  think  i’ve  ever  tried  a  proper  meal.  ”  except  for  maybe  curry  that  most  likely  wasn’t  done  authentically.

          “  𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐄,  𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐄.  good  luck  with  that.  ”  the  lifeguard  waved  off  jaeshin’s  determination  to  prove  him  wrong  with  his  eyes  glued  to  the  screen,  even  though  it  only  played  chaewon’s  favorite  cartoon.  he  liked  those,  too  —  spending  a  lot  of  time  with  kids  will  do  that  to  you.  xavier  was  absentmindedly  rocking  the  little  girl  on  his  lap  as  he  waited  for  jaeshin  to  return  from  the  kitchen  and  he  was  happy  to  notice  that  the  pain  had  been  NUMBED  enough  by  the  ice  pack  to  be  no  longer  felt.  he  decided  to  keep  it  there  for  a  bit  longer  anyway  in  case  it  returned.  when  his  friend  came  back  to  his  peripheral  vision,  xavier  turned  his  head  curiously  to  see  what  he’d  brought  in  with  himself  and  he  was  elated  to  see  snacks,  specifically,  cheese.  of  course,  it  would’ve  been  better  to  have  a  can  of  beer  or  at  the  very  least  a  glass  of  wine  despite  not  liking  it  too  much,  but  he  understood  the  need  to  be  an  exemplary  role  model  for  chacha  and  for  that  reason  alone  he  did  not  complain.  how  could  he  when  jaeshin  was  nice  enough  to  provide  all  that  in  the  first  place?  “  thanks,  man.  ”  it  was  a  little  surprising  how  his  friend  always  had  his  fridge  stacked  up  with  cheese,  but  again,  it  wasn’t  something  he  could  moan  about.  when  jaeshin  took  his  time  to  talk  about  his  day,  xavier gently  nudged  his  friend’s  daughter  to  lean  a  bit  to  the  side  so  he  could  reach  the  table  and  get  himself  some  cheese  on  a  cracker  before  settling  back  down  comfortably.  “  that’s  okay,  we  had  fun.  didn’t  we,  cha?  ”  he  tilted  his  head  in  the  other  direction  to  take  a  look  at  the  girl’s  face  and  her  luminous  smile  was  enough  to  wipe  all  the  stress  and  tension  away.  “  we  went  on  a  walk  and  she  decided  she  wanted  to  go  to  my  house  to  play  with  jian  a  bit.  i  don’t  think  i’ve  ever  seen  a  happier  pair.  ”

          “  𝐘𝐎𝐔  𝐇𝐀𝐃  𝐀𝐋𝐋  𝐃𝐀𝐘,  ”  he  pointed  out,  amused  by  the  other’s  persistence  to  coax  a  tip  out  of  him  with  compliments  that  he’d  grown  accustomed  to  by  now.  it  was  still  flattering  to  be  on  the  other  side  of  shameless  yet  innocent  flirting,  even  if  he  never  RECIPROCATED  —  it  seemed  meaningless  knowing  that  it  was  simply  in  his  nature  to  be  this  way  around  everyone.  at  least  it  was  fun  for  him  and,  admittedly,  for  xavier  too.  “  ah,  poor  jaeshin  ...  he  already  works  hard  as  a  single  father  and  now  he  has  to  deal  with  you  on  a  daily  basis,  ”  the  lifeguard  joked  before  latching  his  lips  onto  the  rim  of  his  glass  once  again  to  have  another  gulp  of  his  last  drink.  he  really  had  to  stop  drinking  if  he  wanted  to  be  hangover-free  at  work,  but  it  didn’t  mean  they  had  to  leave  anytime  soon.  after  all,  they  had  many  more  stories  to  share  and  scars  to  demonstrate.  “  fuck,  ”  he  muttered  in  surprise  at  the  sight  of  the  scar,  wincing  at  the  thought  of  what  the  other  had  to  go  through  to  get  it  engraved  DEEP  into  his  skin.  it  wasn’t  a  rare  occurrence  for  xavier  to  break  a  bone,  but  he  was  really  happy  to  say  he’d  never  been  stabbed.  “  you’re  right  though  —  it  does  look  pretty  damn  badass.  ”  he  chuckled,  leaning  back  to  avert  his  examining  gaze  and  make  eye  contact  wth  isaac.  “  wait,  so,  what  happened  to  the  other  guy  later?  ”

          “  𝐍𝐎?  ”  albeit  a  little  surprised  to  find  out  that  it  was  her  first  time  trying  out  thai  food,  he  easily  slipped  into  a  genuine  smile,  happy  by  the  thought  of  someone  experiencing  a  new  thing  thanks  to  him.  “  it’s  great,  i  promise.  ”  it  wasn’t  that  important  to  mention  that  xavier  wasn’t  picky  at  all,  therefore,  most  dishes  were  absolutely  finger-licking  to  him.  after  offering  her  the  plastic  fork,  he  laid  out  the  containers  in  between  the  pair,  RELIEVED  to  see  that  the  food  was  still  steaming.  “  here  we  have  pad  thai,  the  spicy  beef  salad,  and  some  fried  rice.  feel  free  to  have  any  of  them!  i  personally  recommend  the  beef  if  you’re  good  with  spices.  ”

          𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐙𝐈𝐍𝐆,  but  xavier  was  too  busy  laughing  to  notice  the  little  shivers  coursing  through  his  body.  the  way  lexi  looked  with  a  veil  of  hair  covering  up  her  face  was  quite  ...  special  &  he  even  regretted  not  having  any  means  of  cementing  that  on  paper  for  life.  everyone  deserved  to  see  the  reality  as  opposed  to  all  the  expectations  of  her  commercials  with  a  perfect  appearance.  unfortunately,  he  wasn’t  laughing  for  long;  he  couldn’t  do  that  with  his  head  and  body  fully  submerged  in  water  once  again  when  lexi  decided  to  take  revenge  on  him  by  shifting  all  of  her  weight  onto  his  shoulders.  xavier  came  up  for  air  seconds  later,  spluttering  and  actively  trying  to  get  the  taste  of  CHLORINE  out  of  his  mouth,  and  swept  his  own  matted  hair  off  his  forehead.  “  for  an  actress,  you  kinda  suck,  ”  he  almost  grumbled,  his  index  finger  and  thumb  reaching  for  his  nose  to  pinch  it  a  little  out  of  reflex  to  the  uncomfortable  pain  shooting  upwards.  “  alright,  that’s  it.  ”  with  an  ominous  statement  ricocheting  off  the  walls,  xavier  dived  back  in,  holding  his  breath  this  time,  and  when  he  reached  the  bottom  of  the  pool,  he  opened  his  eyes  to  search  for  lexi’s  long  limbs.  grinning  mischievously,  he  wrapped  his  hands  around  her  ankles  to  tug  her  harshly  towards  himself,  forcing  the  girl  to  join  him  underwater,  feeling  no  remorse  whatsoever.  one  did  not  simply  play  around  with  xavier  in  his  element  with  no  repercussions.

“  are  you  fishing  for  compliments?  is  that  part  of  the  friendship  agreement  too?  come  on  —  you  already  know  you’re  pretty  cool.  all  those  party  tricks  really  painted  you  in  a  whole  different  light  for  me.  ”

“  something  casual  &  not  awkward,  maybe  a  walk  in  the  park  with  smoothies  or  milkshakes  or  a  day  at  the  beach.  movies  and  shows  should  be  for  other  dates  as  i’d  prefer  to  get  to  know  the  other  on  the  first  one.  ”
