Look at that blistering pace on that elevation gain! I thunk the only thing getting crushed were souls. This is called the death march.... and for good reason. Funny story. Once i got to the top beck had ice water for me in a Starbucks coffee cup cause i just couldn't muster up the courage to take a shot of fireball the one spectator was offering. 🤢💀 I ended up taking it with me for the rest of the race. There was a double diamond hill we were coming down that made me irrationally angry because my toes were jamming in the front of my shoes the whole time. So i took them off. So there i am. Starbucks cup in one hand shoes in the other sliding all over the place cause, well, my feet didn't come with traction. At one point two girls saw the death march going up the other mountain side and asked what it was. (They were running the sprint which didn't get the march.) So i explained to them what it was. During this, some guy starts to say about what a great idea it was to have Starbucks and caffeine......... and i said its just ice water my "handler" gave to me. The guy was like oh ok and one of the girls questioned "you have a handler?" I said "yeah, i need one." And then explained it was my wife. Dude starts dying laughing and she got the joke and laughed. Saturday i earned my x5 trifecta and Sunday i earned my x6 trifecta. The real hero here is my left leg for taking the brunt of every impact and purposeful step. By mile 9 on Saturday the tendon in my right knee was starting to give up on support going down hill and anyone running the beast knows the down hill portion was just as bad as any uphill. Then add in carries. 2 out of the three didn't happen Sunday. Burpees were impossible to do. So i did push ups for the penalties. So frustrating and humbling but i wasn't going to give up. If nothing else, I'm persistent and determined. Having said that, turning 40 this past Thursday and racing the toughest mountain I've been on ever was made that much better by all the racers I've come to know this year and ones i got to know better this weekend. All the spectators that go above and beyond to support us. It's becoming quite its own community past the event itself. My wife (my handler) for doing everything to make sure i don't die out there😉. Day 2. Mile 8 something...... starting to see unicorns

Got me some new race bling for my stupid knee. Please, hold the old man jokes as this is a 2 1/2 old issue. Lol (at Vermont)

Got....... earned my x5 trifecta today. Number 6 tomorrow. First. Failed at the ropes (tarzan swing) under the bridge. Failed spear throw. Failed multi rig. Failed Olympus. Made the rest though. Lol No cramps so nutrition is finally getting dialed in First race I've ever seen virtually no one run out of the start corrale. Lol just hiking from the beginning The death march was up a double diamond ski hill for a mile and a quarter. The most brutal climb I've ever done. The tendon in my knee started acting shitty about mile 9. Down hill became torturous And slowed me down otherwise i could have finished around 6 to 6 1/2 hours. Finally finished in 7 hours and 15 mins. Well earned beer. And as always, thanks to my #spartanspectator @brutalchic for supporting me in the race and making sure i don't die. 😁 (at Vermont)
