Having graduated from Harvard University at fifteen, HENRY “HANK” MCCOY was a child prodigy. It wasn’t long after his graduation that he was recruited to work as a researcher for the CIA’s Division X, a division in which he investigated supersonic flight and built the Cerebro prototype. He met Charles Xavier and the other X-Men when they were formed alongside CIA Agent Moira McTaggert as a black ops group.

He grew close to Raven, Charles’ adoptive sister, during this time.The focus of his personal studies was that he wanted to suppress his mutation. He believed that Raven's ability to alter her appearance would hold the key to perfecting it. He requested a sample of her blood, during which they shared each others' wish to appear "normal", as well as a kiss. But when Hank tried this serum on himself... well, it had the opposite effect. The serum enhanced his mutation instead of dampening it, giving him the blue form that we only typically see when his emotions slip from his control.

Hank was instrumental in the Cuban Missile Crisis alongside the other X-Men, and since then he has not left Charles’ side. He stayed by Charles when he fell into depression in the seventies, and now, in 1983, Hank remains at the mansion. Although he hates being called Professor, Hank teaches Science. He’s definitely more confident than he once was, but that awkward McCoy charm remains.

RAHNE SINCLAIR was raised in Ullapool, Scotland, by her father, Reverend Craig, after the death of her mother during Rahne’s birth. Reverend Craig's treatment of Rahne during her first fourteen years was harsh, instilling a strict religious and traditionally Catholic moral code into her from a young age to compensate for the lapse of character which led to her conception. Needless to say, Reverend Craig’s treatment of Rahne after the manifestation of her mutation was cruel: believing her to be a witch, he condemned her to Hell, attacked her, and branded her with a W on her back. Rahne later found herself in an institution for mutants ran by Dr. Cecilia Reyes.Rahne would go on to meet Illyana Rasputin, Sam Guthrie, Roberto da Costa and Douglas Ramsey in the facility she ended up in. They were fellow mutants with their own dark pasts. The group collectively suspected that they were training to become X-Men, but much of their presence at the facility was shrouded in mystery. It was the arrival of Dani Moonstar which would send everything at the facility spiralling: her powers unleashed everyone’s greatest fears, culminating in the destruction of the facility and the freedom of their imprisoned group that had found within themselves a family. But Rahne took a liking to Dani as soon as she arrived, and despite the chaos that ensued around them, romance bloomed.

Without a telepathic barrier keeping their minds from the likes of Charles Xavier in Cerebro, he tracked them down and sent off a group of X-Men in the Blackbird to recover them. Illyana initiated a fight between the X-Men and New Mutants, with Illyana believing the Blackbird to be a recovery team sent by Essex Corporation. It was the arrival of Piotr Rasputin that ended the fight, with Roberto recognising the X-Men as famous figures helping Illyana’s guard to lower. Piotr and Professor X invited The New Mutants to join them at the Xavier Mansion to talk, and the group—somewhat begrudgingly—accepted.Now that she’s living at Xavier’s School for the Gifted, Rahne feels a little lost. She’s trying to distract herself with her new relationship with Dani, but she won’t pretend that she knows what she wants out of life. She never knew peace for long enough to focus on any hobbies back home; all she knew how to do was hide. If only training to be a member of the X-Men was a full time job, right? That, Rahne thinks she could do.

RAVEN DARKHOLME met a young Charles Xavier when she broke into his family’s Westchester mansion to steal food. She took the form of his mother to try and fool him, but he saw past the ruse. Thrilled at the fact that he wasn’t the only one who was different in the world, he offered to let Raven stay and live with him and his family, which she happily accepted. Raven would later follow Charles to Oxford and was instrumental, alongside Charles Xavier’s First Class Students, in the Cuban Missile Crisis as the X-Men foiled the Hellfire Club’s bid for world domination. But her cycle of following Charles ended when she sided with Erik Lehnsherr, who she had become somewhat of a protégé to, and opted to join the Brotherhood of Mutants.

It was during the years Raven spent with the Brotherhood that she became romantically and sexually involved with Azazel, and ultimately became pregnant by him. Following Erik’s arrest for his involvement in the assassination of John F. Kennedy when Raven was a few months pregnant, she knew it would be best to leave in order to start a new life for her child. She fled to Germany, but after the birth of her baby boy, she soon realised how dangerous it was for both herself and the boy to stay together. He didn’t know how to transform like she did, after all.

She never learned what happened to him after she left him in Germany, but she hardly had time to think about it after her becoming dead-set on killing Bolivar Trask. These events would spiral until they led Raven right back where her story started: the Xavier Mansion, only in 1983. Now, she puts her skills to use in training the X-Men and other students how to use their powers to the best of their abilities.
