when: late january 2026 (post snowstorm), early evening
Since moving back to Merrock almost two years ago, Bash had naturally mentally prepared himself for a ton of snow during the harsh winter. However, this recent (and abrupt) snowstorm was almost unbearable, and while he was stuck inside, he briefly researched one-way flights to Orlando. Okay, maybe that was a bit dramatic, but he did envy the Floridians who merely experienced cold as opposed to cold and snow.
Still, he needed a proper excuse to go out, and although the snow had stopped, it had piled up throughout town, though the roads were, thankfully, mostly clear. The paths in the park were decently walkable, so he took advantage of that fact. He needed to clear his head in some way, and being cooped up at home did not seem healthy in the slightest.
Following a moderately busy day at work, he’d headed home after his shift and fed himself and his pets before driving downtown for the sole purpose of getting some air.
Was that weird? No. He’d seen people do much weirder shit in public before.
As much as he loved the sheer tranquility the countryside had to offer, sometimes it admittedly got boring to look at. Sue him. Not that Bash was particularly drawn to going elsewhere for the purpose of finding something ‘new and exciting’ or however the cliché was worded, but the park would do just fine for him.
He continued down a path, glancing down every so often to ensure he wasn’t going to slide on any ice. The mere thought of doing so humiliated him. A breeze passed over him, causing him to inadvertently turn around out of instinct, only to see a figure a few feet away from him.
“Are you also on a weirdly cathartic walk too?” he asked, unintentionally monotone. He hadn’t meant to sound so judgmental in the moment, so he backtracked. “Sorry, not to be so blunt, but I mean, it’s nice, isn’t it? Not the weather, that’s shit, but the feeling, right?”
