Jess happily accepted the sno*cone from her brother, immediately taking a bite and enjoying the cool cherry sweetness on her tongue. "Oh, this was so worth standing in line for." She laughed. Her attention shifted to Mozart as he enthusiastically zigzagged around Bryan's legs, his tail wagging so hard it looked like it might propel him into the next county. Jess couldn't help the grin that formed on her face. "Come here, ya little menace." She joked, taking the leash from Bryan and couching down to scratch behind the pitbull's ears. She figured it was best to keep Mozart distracted by attention while Bryan paid for the treats. Hearing his question, Jess stood up straight and glanced around. "Oh, there!" She pointed eagerly at an empty picnic table under a large oak tree. "Perfect shady spot so our sno*cones don't melt." Jess bantered, already moving towards the table. "C'mon boys, last one to the table has to volunteer for the dunk tank."

“He listens to you because you are always ready with the t-r-e-a-t-s,” he spelled out the last word, earning a look from Mozart. He was lucky that Mozart loved the women in his life, probably more than himself but it was fun to see them interact. But Mozart was always a loving fella, he was just sweet and just as goofy as he looked. Bryan followed to where his sister was looking and then nodded. “Come on, buddy,” he said to Mozart as they headed in that direction. “Oh, okay,” he said with nervous laughter. “Are you sure you actually want to volunteer or you just want to try to find an excuse to throw things at me?” He paused for a moment as he tried to keep up. “All in the name of charity!” he shook his head with a laugh, trying to hold onto his sno*cone and not drop it as he pocketed his phone again.

So far, so good! I've mostly been keeping busy now that the after school program for the kids has transitioned into a full blown summer program, but I am really excited to have time off for the carnival this weekend! How about you, are you up to anything fun?

Oh I’m glad to hear it! Summers must be extra busy with more kids piling in. Do they really love the horses? I’m sure there’s a few newbies that come in as well, right? Been doing the usual thing with the food cart. We almost finished our garden so that’s something!

"Yeah, I feel like stress was always a given in medicine. From medical school to residency and then working shifts in the ER, I feel like the stress never stopped. I'm glad that I don't have to deal with that anymore," JJ admitted. Not that he had gotten completely rid of stress in his life, given that parenting alone was stressful enough. Now, he did not have to worry about the stress from work on top of that. "As much as I loved working the long hours early on in my career, I figured that I don't need to do that anymore, you know? I'm not trying to prove anything in my career, which means I can slow down a bit," he explained with a shrug. "How are things going at the truck, by the way? I know I haven't been around much, but I've only heard good things. How are you doing?" He asked, sighing in relief as Mia finally calmed down. "Hey, apple sauce and chicken nuggets sound perfect. If you could maybe add a vegetable in there, I think Mia would be one happy baby."

“All the more credit to you. Patience and all that, going to school… everything. I went to culinary school and was almost flat broke after,” he chuckled. “And that was just the beginning. I don’t know if I could handle all the extra stress and work,” he smiled. “So I’m glad that you were able to make it through it all!” He nodded. Culinary school was an experience. Like a lot of his friends, he had to start off from the very bottom before actually getting a job that involved cooking. “It’s working for you, and now that you have a kid, even more so. She’s got a great dad,” Bryan said. “We’ve been good. I’m not picking up many extra projects and just focusing on the current menu. That’ll be the next phase. Just for now at least. Plus changing of seasons always keeps us busy!” He nodded. “You got it,” he moved towards the freezer. “I’ve got carrots, peas, sweet potato… does she have a favorite?”

“Close enough, right?” Bryan chuckled. “If only we could have the big ones. I remember seeing some places that get really creative and artistic with it. I… don’t exactly know how safe that would be, but whatever makes for good entertainment, right?” He grinned. He took a closer look at the packages. They were definitely some normal-looking fireworks meant for the street and just pretty to look at. “Those are still fun, though. Who doesn’t want to see a giant volcano of color?”

As per usual, Tae was caught up in the celebrations, his outfit head to toe rainbows. Including a couple of pan flags painted on his cheeks. He was just weaving his way in and out of the crowds when he bumped into Bryan, flashing his friend a bright smile. "It's going good!" he answered, perhaps a little too enthusiastically. "I'm loving it, they've done an amazing job this year. How about you?" No word of a lie. "I'm not going to say no to ice cream, so why not?!"

“I think it’s great!” Bryan agreed. The festival was always a good time. “I’ve been good, keeping busy. There’s always something to do. And I’m always running around getting things done. No boring days for me,” he chuckled. “Ice cream it is, then,” he nodded as they started to walk. “How’s the band and everything?”

A trick of the light? That would actually make a lot of sense. It's the revolving doors I have a problem with, have to run at them like I'm Usain Bolt to make sure I don't get caught in the door. Yeah, there looks like there's going to be a lot going on this summer. I'm glad. I definitely need to push to get out more.

Yeah exactly that! Ha, oh I know those. They have them at one of the airports I went to… I don’t remember which but they would just stop if someone tries to sneak their way in before the next door part comes around!

"I can imagine. Events like this is where you can go and try a whole bunch of things without having to deal with the extra commute," Nathan said with a nod, looking back briefly to see if he could still see his kids. They were a few booths away with Skylar watching her two younger siblings as they tried a game. "Exactly. You should take a short break and enjoy the festival too, even if it's just to check out the booths and tents that aren't too far away from the truck." He pointed at one of the booths that was still within sight of where they were. "You should try that one. Their drinks are a bit too sweet for me but my family likes them."

"Right! The commute will just slow everything down," Bryan said with a chuckle. He glanced over in the direction that Nathan was indicating and he grinned. "Yeah, it's a good thing I've got people to cover every shift or I'd be running around like a headless chicken," he said. His team was pretty reliable and he hadn't had any problem with it before. He had made sure everything was ready to go anyway. "Ahh," he nodded again. "I'll have to give it a go, then. Have any suggestions of what to get?"

"You've heard correctly!" Nadine nodded, turning to the other who'd been examining the options as well. "Ooh, I always love a fruity ice cream- strawberry or blueberry is hard to beat in my opinion," she attested, with a firm nod, mainly because she knew the produce from it came from local farms as well, so it'd be double the treat. Glancing down, she gave a bright smile, noticing the dog. "I may be biased because of that cute face of his, but I'd say it's a well-deserved one, honestly," she teased. "What's his name?"

"Oh yes me too! You know what else is really good? Dark chocolate and cherry. That just has a special spot for me. Ate it all the time when I was in culinary school. "He is a cutie, isn't he? It's that face, and he knows his dad has a hard time saying no," Bryan looked at his dog, who gave him an innocent look. "Mozart. Don't believe his goofy little smile, though. He's a little troublemaker. But he's also a good cuddler."

Bryan turned when he heard a familiar face. “Chock full of powdered sugar and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Then some strawberries to keep it healthy,” he nodded with a laugh. It was a fun and sweet dessert, but fruit always made it better! “That way I can enjoy myself with a sweet treat and convince myself that I got some of my fruit intake in today,” he grinned. “What about you?”

Bryan's head turned and took a look at the trunk of the car. "Hmm. That's a new one," he nodded. "It looks good!" he said, giving them a curt nod. He hadn't fiddled with fireworks since he was in his twenties in an ill-advised street party. "Do your fireworks have any special displays? Are we going to get a Lord of the Rings-esque dragon that will fly around and impress everyone?" he smirked.

"Yeah, it's a lot less stressful in comparison. Working in the hospital is very unpredictable. You never know what's going to come into the ER, and you have to be prepared for anything. There's always that pressure. But working in my own office? Seeing a limited number of patients a day, and only by appointment? That's not just predictable, but also easier to prepare for. I think I'm much more suited for that pace of work, if I'm being honest," JJ explained with a shrug. "And how are things with the food truck?" He asked, still rocking Mia. "Have you cooked for a toddler before?"

"I'm glad to hear it! Love a job that isn't crazy stressful, especially in the medical field," Bryan said with a nod. "Then you've got more control over your work-life balance. That's what I really love about running the truck, I can set my own schedule and move things around and set up when I want. Hey, it sounds like it's working well for you, so I'm happy for you!" He grinned. "For the occasional friend or extended family. But most of that consisted of either apple sauce or some kind of rice-noodle-chicken nugget hybrid,"

Lottie laughed and shook her head, "Okay, I am going to take your word for it then." She shook her head for a moment, and nodded, "Flowers are very springtime-esque and to be honest, I think I can see it." She smiled looking over at the guy for a moment.

“You can do a lot with them!” Bryan said. “And then they can last for a while,” he said, running a hand through his hair. “Well, that is if one knows how to take care of them for longer than a week.”

Nathan thought about the options for a moment, thinking about what he was feeling more then. "I'll go with chicken," he told Bryan. Then he gave a smile and a nod. Not that crowded at the moment around the food truck, the man could use a short break. "Sounds good," he said and waited for the food. "How's the crowd here? I mean, it's not that many right now, those that has games and prices are the ones a bit crowded at the moment but they need to recharge eventually," he grinned.

“Sounds great,” Bryan said, starting to prepare the dish. “It’s been pretty busy, actually. We’ve had a good crowd, and a steady one. I love doing the events because we get more people checking the truck out,” he nodded. “There’s plenty to try out and you can pick something from each one. I might actually grab something too,” he said. “That’s awesome! I love how upbeat the festival is,”
