The only crossover I want
I like how they've actually acknowledged that the anti-Serpentine attitudes of the earliest Ninjago seasons now come across worse than they used to.
Back when the Serpentine were just a standard evil army, it made sense, but since they've been developed into a fully fledged species (particularly one largely consisting of civilians), it makes stuff like the Take Back Ninjago Rally from S1 Ep13 come across as blatant snake racism (snacism, for short):
And this scene from S1 Ep4 went from 'Wu gives useful advice to his nephew' to 'racist uncle indoctrinates an impressionable child':
It's especially noticeable when you compare it to Dragons Rising; thanks to the Merge, there are Serpentine civilians all over the place and barely anybody actually cares.
If you're wondering why the only examples are Hypnobrai, it's because WildBrain only ever uses Hypnobrai (except for Frak and his dad). I don't know why.
DRS1 took me by the shoulders and said 'you are going to like kai and you can't stop it' and then handed that man a child thats just like him when he was younger.
Wyldfyre and Kai they could never make me hate you
Sora understands Arin so well --- I mean, the whole fandom knows this --- but it's her heart-to-heart with Arin in the World Forest that really sets it in stone.
To set the scene, Sora and the Ninja run into Lord Ras and Arin in the World Forest. This is the first time they've seen Arin since he disappeared with Lord Ras after they held off looking for his parents in favor of the Tournament of Sources, so they are distraught --- some a bit more shaken up than others, but shocked, concerned, and upset nonetheless. Arin tells him this is his choice; he doesn't show any signs of wanting to return.
Soon, Lord Ras, Arin, and the Ninja are in a brawl against one of the Forbidden Five and Rogue Jay, and during the fight, Arin tries to hang onto a tree branch, but his grip slips and he falls. Sora jumps out of the fighter jet she's piloting, pulling out Arin's grappling hook and using it to save him. Now they're hanging from the tree by his grappling hook, having an strained yet intimate moment together.
The first words Sora says to Arin is, "I'm sorry." Throughout Arin's journey with Lord Ras, he felt betrayed. He believed the Ninja neglected his desire to find his parents, and that his best friend thought he wasn't capable enough to perform Object Spinjitzu to save someone's life, which harbored resentment in his heart. To him, no amount of apologies could ever fix what had happened. But in this vulnerable moment, when his walls were down, her words made him feel validated --- that it was not wrong for him to feel the way he's feeling when they played a part in it, despite the circumstances which led him to feel that way being out of their control. Her accountability for herself and on the Ninja's behalf opened the door for the rest of the conversation.
Throughout seasons 1-2, Arin struggled with feeling like he was a part of the Ninja team. He was a normal kid with no Elemental powers and wonky Spinjitzu, and his only saving grace, Object Spinjitzu, was something he hasn't mastered yet. He felt like the odd one out, so being with Lord Ras could give him a sense of belonging while also improving his skills. So when Sora says, "Come back with us," (emphasis on "us") she's creating space for him to be in the team again, to be with the people who actually love and care for him, who he used to love and care for --- and she knows he still does. In the words, "It won't be like before," Sora is telling Arin that they won't make him feel neglected anymore, and in, "We can find your parents," she tells him his greatest desire can be fulfilled, and that they can finally complete the mission him and her were on that was held off because of the Tournament of Sources, the one they had decided to do together.
In 3-4 short sentences, Sora addresses and finds a resolution to what Arin desired in his heart, helping him feel loved and understood in a way no one else did.

I think it would be cool if Cinder wasn’t from Ninjago but a human from some other realm
Maybe I'm wrong about this, but if I had to guess, I think Ragatha's a big sister.
Based on her torture scene in Episode 8, there were other people at the table.
So I think Ragatha's attitude- her forced cheerfulness, hiding her negative emotions, and constantly checking in on the other members of the circus- came from being a big sister.
All of her siblings were facing abuse from their mother, and she was doing everything she could to hold them together. She was trying to stay calm and bury her pain because someone has to stay strong for the others. She was doing everything she could to help them because if they set their mother off again, they'd all face consequences. And Ragatha most of all, because she's the oldest so obviously she should be responsible to moderate her siblings, right?
After years of constant pressure and trying to please her mother, no wonder she thinks that's the only way to make friends. After years of high expectations and even bigger responsibilities, no wonder she pressures herself to keep from "failing" those around her. After years of taking care of her siblings and trying to protect them, no wonder she blames herself for Jax's abstraction.
How Harumi sees herself
Harumi: the 'real her', died when her parents did
The Jade Princess: neglected by her adopted parents and adored by her people, but never truly loved, never taken care of. Which was fine by her because she would never let herself love anyone else, ever. Went up in smoke with the palace
The Quiet One: claimed when she was child scared and confused and struggling with the death of her parents, in desperate need of help no one ever gave her. It was a title that gave her the actual power she craved so much, she was feared but was definitely never close to any of her underlings. A mask that was lost after the oni trilogy and her whole "dying" thing
But now, her parent's death has been avenged (kinda), she's chosen to fight on the side of good and, for the first time, loved someone
So, who is she supposed to be now?
Herself:
Just, herself, obviously. But can she even remember who that is? at least now she can finally get some bitches (lloyd)
She hasn't known what it is to be herself in so long...oh Harumi...💔
i wanted to draw the new dudes a little bit
youngest child eldest child
middle child only child
adopted child step child

The advice Ronin gives Nya in s5 is opposite to why Morro ended up the way he did.
"Usually when someone wants something too badly, they'll trip over their own feet." Is what he warns her about and it's exactly what happened with Morro. He cared too much, he wanted the green gi too badly, he ruined his own life and afterlife and brought harm to others.
And in a way, that is crucial to Nya's success at the end of the season. Nya and Morro are very similar. They care too much, they're prodigies, they hate failure, they struggle with their anger and they cling to titles they desire to define them only for those titles to be ripped away. Even their elements are similar.
Nya embraced her flaws, her failures, she listened to that advice and in the end she came up on top. She learned to not quit, the first rule of being a ninja. With Nya's success came Morro's downfall. He hit the rock bottom and he is the other side of the coin to what 'ninja never quit' leads to and only when he did finally give up did he come closer to inner peace he'd robbed himself of for so long.
Having an arc opposite to Morro's is exactly what allowed Nya to triumph.

Yes yes yes yes yes!
Nya's arc being a fear of failure, the same fear that Morro has, is SO IMPORTANT to Nya this season.
I can absolutely see the Kai and Morro parallels- both of them going to extremes to be the Green Ninja.
But I think the Nya and Morro parallel is even more intrinsic to Possession. Nya's afraid of failing, at least in part because she wants to be included and she's afraid that messing up will get her sent back to the side lines (or worse, damsel in distress). Morro is similarly trying to be the best because if he doesn't, if he can't make Wu proud, what will stop him from getting kicked back onto the streets again?
Of course, Ronin's advice isn't exactly good or helpful either. Nya is passionate- that is a defining part of her character. She can't just not care when the world, and her family, is at stake. But his advice does help to balance her fear of failure (even while Nya teaches him the importance of having someone you care about in turn!)
Nya has to find an in-between of those two extremes. She can't be completely apathetic like Ronin. But she also can't slave herself to achievement like Morro. She has to go with the flow, to do the best she possibly can and allow that to be enough, to not weigh herself by her own expectations or the demands of others, but to just be.
There's so much behind the fact that after the Merge, Arin stands facing Imperium, and Sora sees out her bedroom window which shows us a view of Ninjago. It's as if the visual language is telling us they're fated to meet each other.
If we analyze this further, we notice that Arin is standing in a wide open field, his back facing Ninjago City (which isn't seen in the screenshot above, but it shown by watching the scene), and can see everything, including Imperium, whereas Sora's viewpoint of Ninjago is restricted by how much the window is showing her; it's narrow, and it leads your eyes to focus on Ninjago as the subject of what you're seeing. Sora's narrow, restricted view of Ninjago represents her being trapped in her toxic family and her totalitarian government, and whatever --- or whoever --- is on the other side is going to save her from those things. Arin's wide-open view of Imperium represents how he has the freedom or the option to leave behind what he lost in the Merge and choose something new, come what may. As we know from the show, Arin starts a new life with Sora in the Crossroads, and in doing so, Sora is saved from her past.
There's also a noticeable difference in their environments. Arin is standing in an empty, deserted plain, so really the only thing sticking out to him would be Imperium. Pair it with him having his back to Ninjago, this symbolizes that he really only has two options: move forward and meet whatever and whoever will come, or be consumed by the loss of his family and the life he used to have. Sora, however, is looking out into a city bustling with technology and skyscrapers --- anything can catch her attention. This symbolizes how she can finally choose her own family and her own purpose for herself. As we know, Sora, out of the many people she could choose, chooses Arin as her family, and Arin chooses Sora over the family he lost.
These choices are further reinforced by season 3. Sora has the Ninja and she's the Greatest Elemental Master within the Merged lands, but she searches for Arin diligently and willingly left behind her life with the Ninja to stay with him. Arin lost his parents who he loves with all his heart, yet when it came to sacrificing Sora in exchange for resurrecting them, he defended and protected her.
Arin, who has lost everything and now has nothing, chooses Sora, and Sora, who had nothing and now has everything, still chooses Arin.
Kalmaar is pretty much Nadakhan's do over.
They are both princes who take over their kingdoms.
They both have that same flare for the dramatic.
They both have a very flashy fashion sense (still peeved that we never got to see Nadakhan in his cloak...) I mean just look at these divas:
They both have this really creepy and obsessive attachment to Nya, and end up more or less murdering her at the end of their respective seasons.
And they both have an extraneous amount of limbs (arms for Nadakhan and tentacles for Kalmaar) the better to grab you with, my dear.
The writers more or less decided that maaaaybe the racist stereotyped pirate djinn who assaults their one main female character was a bit too far. So instead they give us a racist motivated squid king who attacks one of their (now a grand total of two) main female characters. You know Skybound is dark when this is somehow better.
We talk (myself very much included) all the time about Nya getting flashbacks to Skybound when she meets Arrakore in Dragons Rising. But anyone else wanna bet that, even if he wasn't a Djinn, fighting Kalmaar was bringing back those same memories, maybe even worse?
I mean, the way these screen shots match up is kind of giving me the creeps.
