Legendary San Jose, CA producer DJ Shadow releases a fifth studio album, The Mountain Will Fall. Out on Mass Appeal, this album showcases moody instrumental hip-hop pieces with unusual samples, melodic passages and a digital sound style. British electronic producer Aphex Twin returns with a fifth EP, Cheetah. Out on Warp Records, this album showcases a mix of ambient and acid style with an eclectic variety of percussive hits and soothing pads. Laguna Beach lo-fi outfit Goggs release a debut album, Goggs. The work of prolific garage rocker Ty Segall alongside Chris Shaw and Charles Moothard, Goggs delivers in a familiar style of fuzzy lo-fi punk which is quick, compelling and sonically gritty. Toronto, Ontario noise-rock quartet Weaves release their debut EP, Weaves. Out on Kanine Records, this album shakes with an angular quality overall, blending rock and dance conventions with rhythmic irregularities and expressive vocals. Toronto, Ontario jazz quartet BADBADNOTGOOD release their fourth full length, IV. Out on Innovative Leisure, this album features numerous guest producers, boasting a sound which falls between down-tempo, left-field and jazz. New York singer-songwriter Mitski releases a fourth studio album, Puberty 2. Out on Dead Oceans, this album moves between quiet vocally-driven passages and fairly large rock arrangements with tasteful use of effects, synths and unusual sounds. Chicago, IL alt-country band Whitney release the debut album, Light Upon the Lake. Out on Secretly Canadian, this album boasts finger picked leads, saloon style pianos and other traditional folk and country elements wrapped into a pleasant, indie-pop style. Worcester, MA alt-rockers The Hotelier release a third album, Goodness. Chicago, IL folk rockers Fruit Bats release their sixth album, Absolute Loser. Brooklyn, New York electronic rock artists Young Magic release their third studio album, Still Life. New York, New York producer and songwriter ANOHNI releases a debut album, Hopelessness. Out on Secretly Canadian and Rough Trade, these tracks are made in collaboration with Hudson Mohawke and Daniel Lopatin of Oneohtrix Point Never. Imbued with a considerable amount of dance-genre energy, these songs showcase prominent soulful vocals and lyrical themes of social change. Haitian-Canadian music producer Kaytranada releases a debut studio album, 99.9%. Original DIY rockers The Traditional Fools release an album of unreleased tracks and B-sides called Fool's Gold. Featuring guitarist Ty Segall, these songs are culled from unreleased recordings and a small-run EP release by this sweet garage/surf rock group. It's out on In The Red Records.
