I'd been meaning to post these for a while but haven't found the time until now. These sketches are extracted directly from the game's files so you can use them however you like.
Since a lot of folks really liked that one post I made about Leafbug headcanons I think it's time I did some mothfly/false citizen headcanons as well. So without further ado let's hop in!
Mothfly Headcanons
Mothflies prefer dust baths since it's quick and efficient way to cool off and stay clean. They can bathe in water but it's too risky since the water would make their wings too wet to fly. Not to mention water droplets could easily give up their position if they were to hide.
A lot of what they learn from awakened bugs is by simply observing. They'll watch travelers throughout the Forsaken Lands. The smartest clusters will send a few mothflies inside the Termite Kingdom to observe the inhabitants and bring back information. Due to not understanding any Bugnish, some things they understand, like a king and their subjects, and other things they don't, like shopping. But all and all, the end goal usually is to lure weary travelers in and eat them.
It is through these observations that the False Monarch and its "subjects" attempted to act as if they were a Kingdom with civilians in the settlement that Elizant I abandoned.
The smartest clusters are usually the ones to take up the mantle of "Monarch" or some sort of leader. As the leader it is their job to ensure the entire collective (the other clustsers that follow them) survive, eat, and flee if necessary.
Mothflies are omnivores. They eat squash and pumpkins. They'll eat any bug they can take down for meat. The larger the cluster the easier it is to capture prey.
The biggest mystery to researchers is how mothflies aquire their masks and robes. Mothflies use pieces of their environment to create their masks and robes. They'll take discarded fabrics from their prey or from exploring and mend it together with pieces of squash vines. The masks are made from broken wood and dried pumpkin pieces. The colors come from crushed plants and berries.
Clusters can be made up of families, lone mothflies banding together, or both. Mothflies are always eager to have more additions to their groups. If a cluster gets too large, they may break into multiple groups. Sometimes those groups become a team of false citizens.
Baby mothflies start off as little grubs. It is important that the grubs remain somewhere hidden and safe to be taken care off. Preferably a cave. If the parents are a part of a cluster, the mothflies will all take turns taking care of the grubs by cleaning and feeding them while the others hunt. If there are only just the parents then one hunts and the other takes care of the grubs.

When you grew up on spaceships, the scenery of space travel is nothing new. But Lex can be often found on the quiet observation decks at times just looking out into the expanse.
Anyone ever have the moment where they take a break from one fic to write another? Like a fic smoke break? That's what's going on rn. How I jump from Bug Fables to a Mewgenics x MGS3 crossover fic lol?
For the folks who miss Dust and Frax, do not fret. I plan to bring the story back. I first wanted to edit the first 3 chapters. Now, I am working on Chapter 4.

As Britton Watkins has stated, the Yautja language is very analytical in comparison to English. Whereas we have multiple different versions of the word ārunningā (jogging, trotting, sprinting, dashing, etc.), the Yautja language does not. They have only one or two synonyms for any given verb. On the flip side, this has forced their poetic works and other literature to be very creative: since they canāt just say āHe sauntered at a leisurely paceā, they have to come up with something like āHis steps were slow and intentional, as though he was a Youngblood who completed his first hunt and the blood of his kill was still fresh on his skinā (or something like that). This would probably lead to a lot of translated Yautja works to being extremely long and absolutely filled with metaphors and similes.
Yautja generally operate under the āif it aināt broke, donāt fix itā mentality when it comes to technology. Like, yeah, I could invent something to wash my dishes for meā¦ but I have two hands and a bucket of water right in front of me. What am I, a weakling who needs something to do my chores for me? Convenience is not in the equation for them, itās all about practicality.
The fishnet fashion was invented for clans that traditionally wore less clothing to accommodate for the heat of their environment, so that they could hunt in all different climates (in the comics itās referred to as āthermal nettingā). However, itās only really been adopted by the jungle clans (and not really worn unless traveling off planet), thus why none of the desert clans are seen wearing it.
The clans that wander the galaxy in motherships were originally Yautja taken off of their home-world by the Amengi and enslaved amongst their various other colonies. Once they heard word of the uprising back home, they rose up themselves. Most felt too far removed from their clans and cultures to return to Yautja Prime, so they created their own. This has led to these ātraveller clansā to be extremely diverse, and have a little piece of every Yautja culture within them.
Equilateral Triangles are one of the most āholyā shapes/symbols in the main Yautja religion. They represent the three main suns, and as such most things within folktales, artistic motifs, and general philosophy come in threes.
Clans that were the most affected by Amengi colonialism typically ended up being the most dogmatic (like Dekās clan). The whole ācull the weakā mentality is leftover from the past, where āweakerā or less desirable Yautja would be killed if their Amengi master didnāt think they would turn a profit at market. To push their agendas, Clan leaders like Njohrr intentionally misinterpret the Codex (āfriend to noneā was supposed to mean Yautjangen/Yautja collectively are friend to none), and uphold these more outdated mindsets in order to isolate their clan and ensure their own seat of power. Meanwhile other clans turn around and look at Njohrrās and go ādang, those guys are crazy intense. Glad I donāt live there".
And finally, until said otherwise by an official source, here are my alternate names for the following: Yautja Prime -> YauyaqĢ, Paya -> Ngaya, Centanu -> QĢentsanu. I also have a post about how I HC that this specific Yautja religion operates in the works but that one might take me awhile.
