So I got an anon saying “what’s the best way to learn to love yourself? Pls help” buuut my amazing tumblr-app skills managed to delete it. So here’s my answer (based only on my own experience).
1. Realize you don’t owe anyone anything. Not even the universe. You do you, for you.
2. I wasted years of my youth, years that were supposed to be the best years of my life, being too scared to participate. Don’t make the same mistake.
3. Get your priorities straight. Is it more important to you to always look your best, to always say the right thing, to always make the best impression, or to be happy and enjoy your life? (I had to learn this in my eating disorder recovery - are the advantages of having an ED better than the advantages of not having an ED?)
3.2 Make yourself a priority!
4. It’s all in your head. That’s not to say it’s not valid or important, but it is in your head. The world doesn’t really care if you mess up. Most people won’t care if you look or do something stupid, and those that do won’t judge you, they’ll just have a nice laugh. You can choose to feel sad about it, or to laugh with them. Don’t take everything so seriously.
5. Most people are good, in spite of what the media tells you. Would you judge someone else over something you don’t like about yourself? If not, it’s safe to say others won’t judge you either.
5.2 And, most people care mostly about themselves. It’s not a bad thing. It’s the way things are. You spend the most time with yourself, you notice yourself the most, you think about yourself the most. It’s the same with everyone. People don’t have time to judge you because they’re too busy thinking about their own lives.
6. Don’t apologize. Not to others, not to the universe, and not to yourself. Be unapologetic.
7. Be a little selfish. Say no to people. Focus on yourself. End relationships that don’t bring you joy. You are the most important thing in your life. Realize this. Own it. Don’t apologize.
8. Realize the world isn’t against you. It has nothing to gain by hurting you.
9. When you learn to love yourself, you’ll learn to love the world and people in it, too. Life becomes beautiful then, no matter what happens next (like when I lost my dad but kept fighting).
10. When you manage tip 9, at least a little, you’ll become more open. Others will see this, too. They’ll want to talk to you and hang out with you. (Relationships won’t seem like something that only happens in movies, either. Trust me on this, happened to me too)
11. You can’t love yourself without loving the world, and you can’t love the world without loving yourself. (Applies to life, the universe, other people, etc)
12. Read “You Are a Badass” by Jen Sincero, and then learn more about the law of attraction!
Feel free to add to the list!
