Werewolf clichés, or lycantropes
I reached 100 ratings on goodreads for The Alpha's Rejected Luna!!
I really wish marketing wasn't the hardest part of independent publishing
My breathing is erratic as I watch him walk away from me. My wolf is clawing to get out, to shift, to chase after him. But I can’t move. She wants me to call out to him, to have him come back here, she hates that he’s walking away, and I think I might hate it too.
My brain is swirling, and my entire body feels taut, a pulled bow string. You’re supposed to get a warning before you find your mate. You’re supposed to start experiencing symptoms of going into heat.
I hadn’t experienced any of the symptoms, no sweats, no nausea, no cramping, no racing heart, but there is no denying that Caiden, the Alpha of the West Creek Pack, is my mate.
And he knows it too.
He knows that he’s my mate, and he just walked away from me like nothing had happened, like nothing was fundamentally different about either of us since he walked down those stairs.
I watched the realization dawn over him almost immediately after I’d figured it out myself. He took a breath through his nose and he smelled me, same as I did him, and he knew what I was to him.
I also heard his Beta swear, which meant that he probably knows too.
And then he’d just walked away.
And I’d just let him. I hadn’t done anything to try and stop him. Not that I have a whole lot of options while I’m chained to the wall, but still. I should have called out to him, I should have reached out and-

the secret third wolf wants to overuse semicolons
a writing competition i was going to participate in again this year has announced that they now allow AI generated content to be submitted
their reasoning being that "we couldn't ban it even if we wanted to, every writer already uses it anyway"
"Every writer"?
come on
non-writers will never understand the mental illness of writing an entire conversation in your head while doing dishes and then forgetting every word the second you open a blank doc
i've managed to get to 25k words for nano today!

Characters that have never experienced affection before, or haven't experienced it in a long time, finally getting to experience it? Top tier.
Said character freezing up for a second, not really knowing how to respond, but not wanting it to stop? T o p t i e r.
Said character trying to clumsily return the affection in their own way, because this is Good and they don't want it to stop? T O P T I E R.
When he leans down, he doesn’t lean in toward my face, he leans in, so his head is resting on my chest, and he’s draped across my torso. He hitches up one of his legs and rests his knee on my knee, or just above it, and then he slides his arm up, so he’s got his hand hooked around my shoulder. He’s heavy on my chest. He’s holding me tightly. I’m still frozen under him. His breath is hot through the thin material of his t-shirt, and I can feel his heart beating against my ribcage. “How’s this? Better?” He asks. Speaking breaks the spell on me, and I unfreeze. I slip my free leg up and around his leg and then slide my arms around him, one of my hands going into his hair and the other to his spine, holding him to me. “Better.” My voice is breathy. Dazed. “So much better.”

idk who needs to hear this, but low engagement does not mean your writing is bad.
engagement doesn’t solely depend on the quality of the work. whilst it can play a role, other things such as fandom, ship, tags, tropes and posting at the right time of the day/week play a SIGNIFICANT role.
so keep writing what you love. keep writing what makes your heart happy. your work is amazing. the fact that you’re even putting words out there is amazing.
do not let numbers define you or your work.
I just got a very long, ai generated review on my newest book. it was very complimentary, but I'd much rather get a two sentence keyboard smash than a 8 paragraph essay cobbled together by chatgpt.
chat reminder to just write whatever the fuck you want. write that overused trope. write that obscure shit that no one will have heard of. just. do it. your writing is yours stop depriving it of that.
You can fight AI in indie publishing by leaving reviews.
Seriously.
Ai-generated garbage is flooding the self-publishing market. It works as a numbers game- put out ENOUGH fake crap and eventually someone’s aunt will buy them the ebook as an unwanted gift, and you’ll have made two dollars. This tactic works at SCALE, which means real independent titles are now a needle amongst a haystack of slop.
If you have read a book this year that has less than 5 reviews, your rating is an algorithmic spotlight on that needle.
A one sentence review helps. Really. A star rating helps if you really can’t think of anything to say, but if you can muster up even “I laughed at the part about the tabby cat” you are doing indie authors a favor like you cannot believe.
(Also if you left a review on one of my books this year I am kissing you so softly on your forehead and I adore you)
as a former indie author i cannot express how much even one single sentence review can mean to sales.
so if you care about supporting authors take a sec to leave one!
