I added the bandaids and bruises to represent not only the bullying he endured at school, but his own self harm. It’s sorta projection from my lowest years, when anxiety had me picking deep into my own skin. I’m a lot better now, and of course so is harvey lol. But being able to illustrate my own struggles through him is more comforting than I thought it would be.

Also, I headcannon him to be high-functioning autistic. With crowds and loud sounds he can get easily overwhelmed and often brings headphones, books, or takes walks to drown the noise.

In his older years, Donny is a huge help for this, as he’s really good at reading people and noticing what they might be feeling. He can calmly redirect and help him escape stressful social situations and is patient all throughout :) He’s the one person Harvey doesn’t feel drained around.

❤️‍🩹Some parent lore:

-His father (Gerold Thompson) passed away before Harvey’s 12th birthday. A lot of the passion he has for aviation comes from him, including the air traffic radio he listens to. His also wears an old, brown leather jacket that he grew into over the years, after becoming the age his father once was.

-His mom “Ma” (Eleanor “Ellie” Thompson) is an incredibly smart, nerdy woman. She fell into deep depression after the loss of her husband, and neglected Harvey emotionally for years. Her wake-up call was when she caught Harvey severely injured from self-harm. He continued to try and hide his struggles, but she did her best to support and grow their relationship again.

She’s also a reason why Harvey pursued the medical field. Aside from of course wanting to help others, he wanted to be successful for her and move her out of their apartment, one in which they have not many fond memories in. Being the only family she has left, he wants to make something of himself to make her proud.

Been absolutely eating the Intruder art though. Love how gangly he looks 🫶
