Having Batman as your blorbo is very stupid because he's the kind of character everyone just knows about, even if they have never actively interacted with any content. I can bring him up in casual conversation and it doesn't mean anything because everyone can bring him up in conversation. Doesn't mean anything. I can say "I'm Batman" and it's a funny joke instead of a fandom reference. This allows me to look less weird about him, but also Less Weird About him. Really interesting concept.

Not my usual stuff but ABSOLUTE BATMAN IS SO PEAK GUYS I NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT.

It's a perfect reinvention of what and who Batman is. It finally (to me atleast) delivers on the idea that the original Batman often tried to represent. The idea of the "little guy fighting the evil and powerful". The original Batman always fell flat to me in this regard. Bruce is a powerful, rich billionaire. In any realistic setting he would be part of the problem.

Enter Absolute Batman. This Bruce doesn't have his money. He doesn't have his tech or his decades of fighting experience and training under tibetan monks. He worked for everything, spent his entire life on being the Batman. Underneath this comics insanity, it is a story about fighting back against the system. Bruce never gives up, hes an endless pursuit, not for some greater good, but for the sake of that pursuit itself. He fights for fightings sake. To show the elite that there is someone out there who won't ever stop.

With everything happening in the world, a comic as unabashedly loud about its message as Absolute Batman is exactly what I, and probably many others, need. The comic isnt quiet about its meaning. Bruce is a simple blue-collar worker fighting against the genocidal elite. He burns millions of dollars in hush money just to send a message. He breaks neo-nazis arms and runs over their camps. He fights in his way, the Batman way.

As work continues on Prose Edda (Next chapter coming soon-ish by the way, currently chipping away in the Resident Evil mines after Requiem's release), I figured it'd be a great idea to at least post some of the major influences on it in terms of story, aesthetics and themes. This is, of course, not everything that has influenced it - honorable mentions that got cut off due to Tumblr's picture limit include FMA, Gundam 00, various Resident Evils but particularly 4 and Code Veronica, Getter Robo Arc, Castlevania's Sorrow duology, Bloodborne, Jack Kirby's New Gods, Absolute Batman, and Shin Mazinger Z - but consider these as the essentials to understanding PE's tone and aesthetics.

Plus, even removed from PE, these are all high recommendations anyway so definitely check them out if you haven't

Yesterday was the one year anniversary of Prose Edda's first chapter being uploaded.

Incredibly surreal shit. Cannot believe that something that simply started as me and a friend going "wouldn't it be cool if the Annunaki were like the Chozo and their version of Odin was basically a Raven Beak expy?" Is now being written and published with over a thousand hits so far and even worked on as we speak.

I just want to take some time to thank each and every person who has read it so far. Your support, whether through kudos or comments or even just giving it a read, means the world to me. Prose Edda is my first major fanfic and while I know I still have much to learn I'm so glad that its resonating with tons of people! As we hit the new year, there's still plenty of story to go and I'm excited to share each new chapter with ya'll
