finding comfort in the darkness

jack at the end of season one telling robby that his therapist thinks he finds comfort in the dark.

time skip to s2 where jack is saying his first goodbye to robby and telling him to call him when it gets dark, he knows that robb's trip isn't a happy go lucky fun time, and he jack wants to be the one to be there for robby. he doesn't want robby to think that once he's driven off on his bike thst no one cares for him because jack always will.

then we get to their final goodbye where jack is telling robby that he has to find someone to dance through the darkness with him. ITS SO CLEAR THAT JACK IS TALKING ABOUT HIMSELF EVEN IF HE DOESN'T KNOW IT!!! jack reinforcing that he wants robby to come back that even after acting like a huge asshat he still wants robby to return after his sabbatical. also just can't forget about the emergency contact mention. need needed to remind everyone.

and that’s because (1) the purpose of this website is to share things that bring us joy and (2) likes don’t share things or ensure something is seen by more people, not like they do on other sites. so, when so many people decide to only like a post and not share it (i.e. not reblog it), that tells the creator that those people didn’t think their hard work was worth sharing with others. that’s discouraging. 

and the creator isn’t the only one that gets something out of that. you get something, too. you get the joy of sharing something you like; that’s a meaningful experience for both you and for the creator. and that experience—that interaction—encourages the creator to create more, and so there’s more joy to be had for both you and the creator.

So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”

Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.

it's to show dennis looks up to robby. and that's what gets robby. because dennis is a person who saw him curled up on the floor like a baby, crying and whimpering, completely breaking, and stayed through it. saw all of it. and still, still respects him, trusts him, likes him, looks up to him afterwards.

he saw robby at an extremely vulnerable moment and did not "abandon" him. thaaat is the root of the attachment. that is why robby is so careful to keep dennis from seeing the uglier parts of him. he is desperate to have at least one person who still thinks he's good. who still looks up to him as the "captain" of the ED.
