Dragon Bonding Ritual customs.
Ok so Dragons have two terms for relationships. Bonding and Binding. Binding is a temporary relationship usually for reproductive reasons. While Bonding is a long lasting relationship and typically for dragons they are partners who think in the long term rather than short term. Naming for Dragons Dragons tend to only have first names and if they go through what they called the Ignis Tresse Ceremony. They gain a last name that is unique to the couple however the last name is seen as private due to its magical nature to summon them both if they choose to. So it is often told to children or other vulnerable members of the family. Other than that it is a secret between the couple and them alone. Do Dragons wear rings? Dragons dont wear rings though they might if their partner isnt a dragon. They instead prefer crafting something this could be music, jewellery, weapons, armour and clothes etc. Anything that is seen as their craft and art. The couple will swap gifts and these tend to be shown during the public part of the ceremony rather than the private however some dragons prefer it to be part of the private ceremony. The start of the Ceremony. (public part.) The first part is the public event. This is when dragons will bring food and feast this ceremony is typically during Autumn so dragons dont need to worry about food in winter with extra mouths to feed if they choose to have young. However they also see it as a balance between life and death that the cycle will continue even when nature begins to rest and wither. So this ceremony is typically nicknamed Vitas. During this time they eat, dance , sing and in general gathering and converse. Its a very social event. Near the end of such the children of the couple or the youngest member of the family and there must be two members who take part in this to create the sigil circle. Guests may give gifts to the couple and any children of the couple. The calling. Atleast two young people will come up and draw a circle in the ground with a stick often nicknamed a wand as its to draw a sigil to symbolise the couple and to create a protective circle to stop loose magic from leaving it. A chalice, a sword and coin is used for the next part. Usually parents or siblings will give coin to the couple this may be their signs on either side to represent they are two sides of the same coin. After that it is completely private and everyone leaves. The Bonding. (TW: HARM, Bl*0d ) Often the couple will handfast their hands and use a sword to cut the ribbons and cord into the lengths they need before binding their non dominant hand/writing hand and then cutting the other to bleed into the chalice. The sword is usually treated with a poison that will keep the dragons hand from healing immediately if a dragon is bonding with someone who isnt a thick skinned person they usually go first and then the blade is coated in poison. Blood is put into a chalice that the couple drinks only keeping a little to pour for getting a surname. And thats it they now have a name and everything.
