Should you go?

But aside from the eye roll moments this was a really fun and very well done movie. If you enjoy jump scares and post apocalyptic scenarios then this is the movie for you. I give it 4 outta 5 stars, cookies, what evers. Definitely go see this in the theater. It will be plenty good on redbox, but the theater will definitely add to this movie going experience.

This movie was made to be seen in the theaters. And you will likely need to go a few times if you enjoy where’s waldo style visual puzzles and references. The movie scape is so big I’m definitely looking forward to going again. I would give this 5 outta 5. Buy a ticket and see this one in theaters unless you don’t like fun.

It is a classic movie sequel. It sacrifices some of the story and originality of the first one in the name of being bigger and having more action and special effects. That being said it was an extremely entertaining movie. One of those where you leave the theater feeling like you left a good roller coaster. The effects and action are top notch. If you are in the mood to go to the movies. Get a big ass bucket of popcorn and a soda, and just have fun for 2 hours then this is a great movie. It’s got action, its got a followable plot and believable motivations (though some of it is a little formulaic and stuff we’ve seen before), and a good sense of humor that doesn’t feel forced. It’s just a fun movie through and through. Is it winning any awards? Absolutely not. So if you’re going to the movies to feel anything other than appreciation for effects and action then you may want to see something else. But if you’re in the mood for something that will keep you thoroughly entertained from start to finish then definitely check this one out. Don’t wait for red box if this type of movie is your jam because this is the type of movie where seeing it in the theater really adds something to it that you just won’t get at home unless you have a crazy expensive theater set up. Though I will say that I want to see this again when it comes out in ultra HD because the colors and overall film work are very well done as we would expect from anything remotely attached to Guillermo Del Toro. In terms of rating it as a movie over all, I would give it a 3.5 outta 5. In terms of entertainment value, a solid 4 outta 5. Check it out and let me know what you think. … This movie is exactly what you think it is. Your first warning sign. There’s not a single recognizable name in the credits and not in the independent "film festival" kinda way. It’s the girl who played Pete’s fiancé in the first season of “The League,” And the dude who played the dad in, “The Witch.” Those are your biggest hitters in terms of recognizability in the movie. Oh, and the guy who played Sookie’s brother in True Blood. The plot is absurd. The motivations seem like they were made up by ...a five year old playing with K-mart action figures with titles such as, “action man,” or the Go-bots. The only people who should ever bear witness to this movie are people like me. People who have a movie pass and feel the need to squeeze every dollar out of it that they can. And someone who has a best friend who also enjoys going to bad movies in order to mock them. So the only other two people that I can really think of that might match this description is Jacob McFadden and Benjamin J Braman. If you aren’t Ben and Jacob. Do not see this movie in theaters. I give it a one out of five. That being said, I did enjoy making fun of it. So there is definitely still entertainment value in this movie, but I would definitely wait for redbox and enjoy an evening of drinking and a bad movie with friends!

 I saw the first Maze Runner and absolutely hated it. Something about it annoyed me to no end. Then Maze Runner 2 was playing at the byrd and there are few things I won’t see for $2. But it surprised me. It was actually a good movie. The third one lies somewhere in between. Because of the length of time that passed between the second and third I forgot most of what was goin...g on so the plot seemed a bit odd. It centers around them attempting to break into the last human city to free some dude named Mihnho. I guess he got captured in the last one. But the entire time they are acting like we should remember this guy for being special and I’m like, I don’t remember this dude at all. So the motivation for them to undertake such an endeavor seems a little farfetched. And given that umbrella some of the emotional moments seemed a bit forced. But other than that, the action was good, the story was followable, despite not remembering who any of these people are and why they’re doing what they do. Definitely a good movie if you’re in the mood to get popcorn and enjoy some mindless action for a while. Though it is 2 hrs and 22 mins long which was a stretch. We really didn’t need that last 22 mins. If you’re a true fan of the Maze Runner series I would definitely check it out while in theaters. If you are the casual movie goer that has happened to see one and two, I would wait for redbox. Over all I give a 3 outta 5.

Death Wish: One of my biggest complaints about movie reviews is that the people who write them never seem to know anything about the movie they are about to witness. So many reviews of Death Wish have descriptors such as, “Brutish, thoughtless, brutal, gory.” It’s an R rated revenge thriller directed by Eli Roth (The guy who directed Hostel for those who are unfamiliar with the name)! What did you all expect??? You go into a movie like this and you should be expecting guns, violence and some mindless fun. No one should be expecting Oscar Wilde-like word play and wit here. The overall point is I feel this movie has been given a bad rap by people who are criticizing it based on odd criteria. Of course it’s going to be brutal and bloody. The title is f*&%ing Death Wish. To be fair however the movie does have some weak points. The story line is a little cliché and nothing new, but what can one really expect from a remake. However where this one sets itself apart is that there is a lot of story. I went in expecting to get to the action fairly quickly and the movie seems to take a while to go through the psychological process of how a doctor who lost his family might actually turn into a one man army of vengeance. I thought this was an interesting process and was well thought out. It was definitely different to watch a Bruce Willis who treated guns like he wasn’t born with one in his hand. But I feel like this is where you begin to lose the people who did come to see Death Wish, just for a good bloody revenge romp. It takes a while to get to the good stuff and once it happens it rolls with a good rhythm. Kinda like a good roller coaster that just took too long to get to the down hill part. Bruce Willis was Bruce Willis. Some of the more emotionally charged moments of the movie felt a little forced and flat so Willis ain’t taking home any Oscars for best actor but that is another thing you can tell from the title. The villains were a little one dimensional. There is one main villain that we learn about and he’s kinda the final boss to beat at the end. He plays a really creepy and antagonizing character but we don’t ever really learn much about him so you don’t get the chance to really hate him like a good movie villain will make you do (Ie. Wild Bill from the Green Mile). Where I think the movie went wrong is a big criticism of most Hollywood revenge plots and sub plots. No one takes their time with these ass holes. It’s just a couple pops of gunfire and the guy is dead. They spent a lot of time building up some of these guys and how they like to toy with their victims. A good revenge thriller I would think would turn that around and I was really expecting Eli Roth to take it to that level but he did not. But overall I found it enjoyable and was pretty much exactly what you expect it to be. So if you’re a big fan of revenge thrillers and realistic vigilante stories then I think you would like this. If you don’t like blood and guts and violence, I would like to think the title would be enough to keep you at home. I’d probably wait for redbox or Netflix to see this one if I was the average movie goer, but definitely worth checking out if you want some mindless bloody fun.
