you curled further into the corner of your bed, phone pressed to your ear as you wiped at the corner of your eyes with sleeve of your hoodie.
you hadnβt realised how quiet your room had been until the sound of jungwonβs breathing through the phone broke the silence.
βso..β he spoke up after a moment of quiet. βare you done crying now?β
you let out an offended scoff, narrowing your eyes at the boy across the line.
βi wasnβt even crying that much, shut up.β
βsorry, sorry.β he laughed softly. βitβs justβ¦you know, your voice always sounds like that after youβve cried.β
you frowned, instinctively rubbing at your nose as if he could somehow see you through the phone.

βiβve know you for years, yn.β he responded, your name sounding incredibly soft on his tongue.

he just hummed along with her words, quietly agreeing. βyeah, but iβve known enough.β
your lips parted to argue with him, but no words escaped. somehow, he always knew how to say things so surely, as if there wasnβt anything strange about admitting heβd paid attention to her all this time.

you laughed at that, but quickly covered your mouth as if you could somehow take it back.
on the other end of the call, jungwon grinned grinned so widely that his cheeks began to ache.

you couldnβt help but roll your eyes at that, though there wasnβt nearly as much bite as there used to be.
βi am.β he let out a quiet laugh, shaking his head. βyou know, i used to think that if i could make you laugh just once, id probably ride that high for the next month.β
you scoffed, absentmindedly tracing circles into the fabric of your duvet.

you felt stomach flip. it never used to do that with him.

a few seconds of silence passed before she added, unable to help himself.

no one had ever looked so pleased over something as small as hearing her laugh. it was confusing.

your breath caught in your throat right then and there. you remained silent for a couple secondsβfeeling like an eternity for jungwon.

βyou really have.β you let out a flustered sigh, not knowing how else to respond.

he hummed at her words again. βno..but i do think youβre really cute when youβre flustered.β
you immediately covered your face with the blanket, letting out a dramatic groan. βoh my god.β
even though he couldnβt see you, he knew that your face was burning hot.

you smiled despite yourself, tucking a loose strand of hair behind your ear.
