Don't Forget Christmas for the Detained Central American Border Children
The following copied email  was received by the Colorado Border Crisis Network via the amazing work that Las Americas Migrant Center in El Paso is doing for the moms and children in detention facilities.  PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO SPONSOR A GIFT FOR A CHILD.  This process is the only ICE accepted way to get a gift to a border child. This is time sensitive! Please if possible, let's make as many children smile for a while in these detention centers.
Here is the content of the email Colorado Border Crisis Network just received:
Please follow the instructions below to order and ship a gift to a child in family detention. Please have your gift arrive at Good News Lutheran Church by Dec. 23 so it can be delivered to the facility by Christmas morning.
Gifts that arrive by any other process will not be accepted by the ICE facility.
 Go to our registry
Choose a gift.
Purchase the gift.
Enter in the church mailing address listed on the registry (also listed at the bottom of this email)
Return to the registry and mark your gift as purchased.
Let us know that you sent a gift by emailing us at [email protected]! We want to personally thank you.
Thank you for participating in our holiday campaigns to bring hope and joy to the children in detention this season. Your gifts are powerful memories to the children and mothers who cannot celebrate Christmas this year.

We must care! Â We must not have a legacy of turning away from children.
There have been many others, Syrian children being one. Â Now the ethical issue has been brought to our own doorsill. Â What legacy will we choose?

The issue of these kids is not going away simply because it is election time in the US. The idea of children fleeing violence and seeking asylum is something that all Americans should support. Feigned patriotism has made these children political pawns. THESE ARE CHILDREN at our doors. What? We can bail out WALL STREET, DETROIT AUTO INDUSTRY and BIG BANKING, but have no room for children? This is a moment to define the kind of Americans we are, and the kind of country we want to be.

The need is still real, folks...currently, three children who have had counseling services that produced the proper mental health reports and an attorneys present at their immigration/judge process have been granted asylum. Is this something we really only want the few who get lucky to have?? Today I am just going to say it straight.... please give. Please share to make this happen.

WCG :-)
The Women's Consultancy Group has been meeting weekly with other women committed to involvement with the current refugee border crisis of women and children. Â After our meeting today, we decided to come together under one group name for this project:
                 - Colorado Border Crisis Network - Â
Hello all! Â Things are busy around the Women's Consultancy Group virtual conference table. Â Here is a recent update!
Currently, we are making the final changes to a Joint Mission Statement agreed upon between Women Engaging Globally, Women's Consultancy Group, and individual committed women here in the Colorado community. Â Together we have been meeting weekly on the campus of Metropolitan State University Denver, with the assistance of Dr. Elizabeth Mendez-Shannon, Assistant Professor of Social Work who has been extremely instrumental in helping this group become the cohesive action group it is. Â Regular founding members of the group include:
Colorado State Representative Alice Borodkin - Retired Legislator
Dr. Elizabeth Mendez-Shannon - Assistant Professor of Social Work, Metropolitan State University of Denver
Alexis Newton - Women's Consultancy Group
Renee Rivera - Executive Director of the Colorado Chapter, National Association of Social Workers
Carey Baker - Colorado State Director, UniteWomen.org
The Joint Mission Statement - WATCH FOR IT!
It is to be released this week and will detail our position regarding the manner in which the children refugees at the border are being cared for in the shelters. Â Â
Keep your "blog-eyes" peeled for more information about the border kids, their emotional trauma care and legal representation. Â These are the things that matter.
And please let us know of any news in your area of the country regarding the Border Kids. We welcome your participation and comments!Â
And thanks for following our blog :-)

Women's Consultancy Group has launched a GoFundMe project to help fund the start-up costs of providing clinical social work  & counseling to as many of the children as possible.  If you would like to be a part of this WCG project, post a request and we will follow up.
Let's just say there is so much going on with the treatment of these children, in their homeland and now here, that we do not know....
