Stilesâ real name and his possible connection to The Wild Hunt.
Initially, this post was supposed to be dedicated to Stilesâ name only, but as I went deeper into my research, Iâve come across some interesting facts about The Wild Hunt that sort of support my theory, so Iâll share my thoughts on those as well.Â
This theory is based on the following assumptions:
A. Stilesâ name starts with M, doesnât end with ienim, is very hard to pronounce. He was named after his paternal grandfather, not Claudiaâs father.
B. Will Wallace didnât lie about Maciwoda not being Stilesâ name.
C. Most importantly, Stilesâ ancestors were Jewish.Â
In the recently released scene from 6x03 Sheriff Stilinski mentions that his fatherâs name is Elias (or Eliasz in Polish). This name originated from the Hebrew name Eliyahu meaning âmy God is YAHWEHâ. Eliyahu was a Hebrew prophet. This is what made me think that Stilesâ real name might be Polish-Jewish. Oh, and because of this: âJews who converted to Christianity were given surnames such as ZieliĹski". Zielinski? Sounds a lot like Stilinski.
Knowing that Stilesâ name isnât Polish translation of âmischiefâ, Iâve decided to translate this word into Hebrew instead and then use the English equivalent of Hebrew letters to form a name. Nothing made sense, so I tried a different approach.
These [x], [x], [x] articles explain the origins of Polish-Jewish given names and surnames, I wonât go too much into that. Hereâs the part I focused on:
Parents normally choose from a long list of traditional names which may come from a Christian name (a Biblical name or a saintâs name) or a Slavic name of pre-Christian origin.
I looked into Biblical Hebrew names starting with M and hereâs what I found:
Mattityahu (Mateusz or Maciej in Polish) means âgift of YAHWEHâ. He was one of the twelve apostles. Malkiel (the Polish name Myloslaw sounds alike) means âmy king is Godâ in Hebrew. This name is a cognate of Elimelech (which looks like it could be one of the forms of Eliyahu, and Stilesâ name is supposed to be related to his grandfather).Â
Now, the problem is that none of these names mean âmischiefâ. It was believed that Yahweh, or Jehovah, meant âGod of mischiefâ at some point, but Iâm pretty sure it turned out to be a transliteration mistake.
However, thereâs one Polish nameâMecimir or MÄcimierzâthat can be translated as âhe who opresses peaceâ. Isnât mischief something that causes annoyance, discomfort and harm or, in other words, disrupts the peace? Also, Mecimierz is certainly something that even I struggle to pronounce, I wonder what it looks like to native English speakers (:
There are some other names, such as Minogniew (âone whose anger is freshâ), Mscibor (ârevengeâ + âbattleâ), Mscigniew (âto avengeâ + âangerâ) and the popular choice Mieczyslaw (âswordâ + âgloryâ), but they can hardly be interpreted as âmischiefâ, in my opinion.
As I was searching for possible names, Iâve come across some interesting quotes about The Wild Hunt which convinced me that my theory about Stiles having Jewish roots wasnât totally crazy.Â
In the Norse pantheon the leader of the Hunt is Woden (Odin), who careered across the sky followed by his pack of hounds in full cry. What were they hunting? In Norse mythology anyone who crossed their path was fair game. He was liable to be snatched up and transported to a distant land, and he must never speak of his experiences, for even to mention the Huntsman meant death. When the Huntsman became identified with the Devil his prey consisted mainly of Jews, Infidels and Unbaptised Children, though other mortals who put themselves under his power by their own misdeeds could also be the quarry.
This article states that Hitler identified himself with Odin. If Iâm right about the victims of The Wild Hunt, those two have surely got one thing in common. Another thing that bugs me is that weâve been repeatedly reminded that the Nazi werewolf is a big part of S6. Moreover, Stilesâ grandfather presumably participated in World War II. Also, didnât the victims of The Wild Hunt look like Jews so far?Â
I might be reading too much into all of this and Jeff will never go down that road, but, to quote Stiles Stilinski, YOU CANâT TELL ME THIS IS JUST SOME SERIES OF IMPOSSIBLE COINCIDENCES.
Iâm sorry if none of this makes sense, but I tried.mp3.
