HELLO!
Olivia here, finally wrestled back control of the tumblr log in from the girls. I don't know how long it will last. But while I'm here...
YOU'RE INVITED:
Are you in the Denver area?
Are you free July 21st?
Do you believe in supporting indie fiction podcasts?
Do you believe in uplifting grrrl's narratives and queer creative visions?
Do you like birthday cake and FREE stick and pokes?!
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then boy howdy do I have good news for you!
To celebrate the anniversary of our release, we are having a birthday party fundraiser in the city park west neighborhood of Denver, from 7-9pm.
There will be a little listening party, drinks and snax, FREE Parthenos themed stick and pokes, opportunities for fundraising, opportunities for political advocacy for gals and queers, vendors, and lots of other Parthenos-vibed surprise activities :)
Also, the opportunity to connect with radical like minded art makers! If you're in the Denver area I would LOVE to meet you and celebrate. Among other fundraising opportunities, we are asking for a suggested donation of $15 as an entry fee (but no one will be turned away for lack of funds). All proceeds are going directly back to the Parthenos artists' pockets 🙃
If you aren't in Denver or can't come but still want to support, you are more than welcome to give the $15 entry fee as a donation (Venmo: @delphic ) I know times are tough right now, so a donation of any amount is a gift that means the world to us 💕💕💕
If you want more details / to reserve your spot, message @parthenospodcast and we'll get you on the list!
In love, revolution, and partheneia,
Olivia

Welcome to Mount St. Hera Sanctuary! Some of our rescued animals might be exhibiting slightly unusual behaviors. For example if you feel stared at while cleaning the aviary, pay no mind. It's perfectly safe as long as you don't touch the lines of the salt circle. (We'll also teach you a nifty incantation you can use in case anything tries to bite you.) Oh and never ever take the nightshift alone. I swear their eyes glow in the dark. What? Oh. It's nothing, dear. It's all perfectly safe. Where were we. Oh right! I'm supposed to give you the tour! Oh and one more piece of advice: Don't listen to the birdsong. Don't listen to the voices.

Very good horror comedy. The Blue Prophet was my favorite episode, still don’t know whether the bird was causing the deaths or predicting them.

The moonshiners union
Moonshining, one of the two ways to get around the excise tax on alcohol. Our podcast follows a group of moonshiners dealing with competition with Rum Runners who following the American prohibition shifted their operation to bypassing the Canadian Excise taxes.
The moonshiners are under pressure from their distributors to lower prices and instructed to fight the rumrunners. After the first confrontation leads to one of them getting shot and their distributor threatening them, they decide enough is enough. They get in touch with a bunch of the other moonshiners and try to organize. After all, if police can have a union, why can’t moonshiners?

Marisa can delete things from reality. With just a touch and a unique sound effect, that thing is just… gone, and no one but Marisa even remembers it ever existed. She discovered this power last summer after miraculously undoing an embarrassing car accident, and ever since then has been experimenting with what, exactly, she can excise from history. So far it seems to only work on physical objects, but she hasn’t tried anything too big. She has not yet figured out how to put anything back.
But when she snaps and excises her awful boss, the ripples of change are much, much bigger, and navigating this new reality with the wrong set of memories is harder than she expected. And it seems like this time, she’s not the only one who noticed.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is such a fascinating show. It’s so self-aware and ambiguous- the fact that she acknowledges the sound effect when she tries to describe her “power” to people. It’s like, is she making the sound? Is it diegetic non-diegetic?
It’s quite a stressful show to listen to, you almost feel guilty for questioning what’s real alongside Marisa. Especially once things get a bit heavier. Marisa begins to feel like she’s being hunted once she excises her awful boss, like a shark has been waiting for her to spill enough blood for it to catch the scent in the water, following the ripples right to her.
I didn’t expect to get so many answers in season 1 but they definitely come with a few questions as well.
Spoilers - the source of this strange phenomenon is much more otherworldly than I’d have anticipated and I kinda love it a lot. And it’s a bit terrifying, for ‘Risa and as a listener in general, just questioning reality a little bit. Also turns out the embarrassing car accident wasn’t actually the first time she’d excised something (or someone…) from reality - when she tries to set things right and put her boss back, Tobias appears. Marisa doesn’t remember Tobias. Tobias had a very different childhood to his twin sister Marisa (who excised him in the womb?). His embryo grew in a tree in the plane of excised beings and belongings. I adore Tobias so far, he/it is really endearing from the third or so of an episode we’ve spent with him. And with all of the looming threats set up and escalated through season 1 I am so eager to listen to the next season. Hope it’s not too long a wait!
I gave 4/5 stars; only because I’m such a fan of the surreal whimsy that arises at the end, and I’m a bit impatient, so would have loved some of the reveals to happen sooner. But I’m probably lying to myself, I really did enjoy the uncertainty and suspense - I think it needed to unfold like that to make the payoff worth it. I wish I had the restraint to write like this and withhold information in a way that lets the audience be so invested and active in listening/trying to figure it out. You always have the exact amount of information you need to be surprised (or figure something out just before Marisa does).
Thank you creators for creating this show - no pressure but I will be thinking about it every day and patiently waiting for season 2 to arrive

Great earworm! The voice acting for the poor intern is amazing, their freak-outs are easy to believe and sympathise with. I was extremely intrigued when I saw "Boston accent bird" listed in the credits and the episode did Not disappoint. The suspense of "everything is fine don't even worry about it :)" doesn't last as long as I would like, but it's completely understandable for such a fast-paced show. Plus, with the intern quickly having to also put on the Everything Is Fine act for the inspection was a great role reversal. The tonal range of the show manages to hit horror, comedy, and drama without missing a beat. I would have loved more breathing room but again, with the length of it this is extremely understandable.

Irvine's Unposession
CW for mention of transphobia, religious abuse
Irvine always had a demon rattling around in there, that was nothing new. The guy wasn't all sunshine and rainbows but neither was Irvine, so they got along fine. While his religious family tried everything from exorcisms to almost forcing him to become a nun, by his early 30s Irvine is just as trans, possessed, and living a largely comfortable life, balancing jobs well enough to take care of himself and his cat.
The appearance of a "tactical priest" - if that's his real title, which Irvine highly doubts - manages to achieve his parents' dreams of separating Irvine from his demon, Belz (no relation). Belz is still haunting the fridge, which appears priest-proof, Irvine finds himself more alone with himself than he ever was, all the while the priest refuses to leave before the demon does. The aftermath - and the growing grocery bill - is Irvine's to deal with by majority vote.
4.5 stars
Demon's the best part. Truly just a shit stirrer, the votes are always interesting because you never know which it's gonna go. Sometimes it'll vote against its own best interest just because it thinks it'll be funny.
I want 6

Like a Second Skeleton
Gail harvests organs for a living.
Every night she has to face herself in her dingy bathroom mirror. She’s making ends meet. She’s trying to build a life for herself.
Every day she tries to convince herself that she doesn’t enjoy her work.
He literal partner in crime Judy doesn’t seem to have as hard a time. But then Judy doesn’t try to convince herself she doesn’t enjoy it.
They’ve never met their boss face to face. Maybe the less they know the better.
Four stars
I was only listening to this to be edgy. Y'know because it'd make my grandma freak out if she knew I was listening to a story about people killing people and stealing bodies. But mostly I was listening to it because my friend said it was pretty cool and I really wanted her to think I was cool.
I don't know why I finished it. I guess I just wanted to know because my friend, who's also a girl... She's kind of like Judy and I'm kind of like Gail and I thought wow let's listen to it together and see how their friendship works out and it's all gory and scary and whatever and their boss is terrifying, but I really liked her because she freaked out my friend so much she would hold my hand (we always listened to it together under the bleachers at lunch) and I'd start thinking about what would happen if Gail and Judy weren't just friends and maybe if they practiced kissing, y'know, for their boyfriends later on. AND THEN I FORGOT ABOUT THE BOYFRIENDS and then I just imagined them kissing and then they did and my friend kissed me and I freaked out and asked if it was for practice but I forgot the word boyfriend and I just asked if this was practice for when we start dating. And then she got all excited and said "yes!!" and I think we're dating now and I'm so happy but also I think I might be going to hell??
awww honey, you're not going to hell, I promise. You're not taking peoples organs, then you're gonna be just fine, I promise you.

CW ED, fatphobia
ONE SMALL PILL
Bethany has always wanted to be on the big screen... or the small screen, hell at this point, she'd take any screen at all. When her newest foray into sketch work on TokTok results in her feed getting filled with negative comments on her body and weight, and her friends suggest that if she lost a few pounds she might have more success, Bethany decides enough is enough and she needs results yesterday. A quick trip to the doctor and a few days later lands her with a small bottle of the hottest new weight loss pills. In a few short months, for the first time in her life, she's thin.
It turns out that she's always been funny enough, brash enough, and smart enough to get anywhere she wanted, she just had to fit through the door. As her TokTok takes off and she even lands a minor role in a popular network show, everything seems to be going perfectly.
Until her insurance decides it will no longer cover the pill.
It barely takes a month before the comments start popping up again.
There are posts analyzing her every wrinkle, every fold of her skin, every angle of her smile, every single ounce of cellulite that still sits on her frame. But Bethany can handle this, she just has to do things the good old fashioned way: count calories and go to the gym, and maybe order some knock-off pills off that sketchy website...
The number of Bethany's opportunities only seem to go up as the number on the scale drops. With her dream job just on the horizon, a show where she is finally the love interest and protagonist, she just has to get that number a little lower in time for the audition. She'll make it too, she knows it! If only the industry doesn't eat her alive.
4.5/5
I really liked the audio design on this one! The "polished" way Bethany sounds when on TokTok, the sound design of her losing it at her low points, and the old-timey-internet chimes and chirps on the scam- I mean, "cheap alternative" - website added the bit of levity that was needed to get me through the absolutely brutal portrayal of being fat while in the public eye without needing a long break. Bleak, horrid, and definitely worth a listen!

Not leaving a star rating because I couldn’t finish this one SORRY. I’m sure it’s great and all the wet tearing dissection sounds were incredibly lovingly rendered but. WAY too lovingly rendered for me. Where did the creator even find those. WHAT level of foley work were they on. And you can’t even fast-forward through the gross biological sounds because plot-critical conversations keep happening during the organ harvesting scenes!! Release the “no organ sounds” cut WHEN
