They don’t send her out into the field very often. There had always been something important about the safety that the desk brought, her own skillset hardly that of the super heroes and fighters that she often found herself assisting; only this time, there’s comfort of a computer between her and the action, not that she plans to see any of THAT today - it’s only ever meant to be a moment of routine activity - her toolkit equipped at hand, dark eyes glancing this way and in the next direction before she slips through the doors of a cheap motel. Key at hand, having turned the lock, her neon acid pink slick of hair kept combed up and out of sight beneath a hat.
It’s been a while since she was CALLED TO HELP; but given the present circumstances, she supposes it’s only fair. Few have the knowledge of how to reprogram something as finicky as Wakandan technology, and few were around that could revisit the work in a timely enough fashion for a man who liked to claim himself anything but a hero, at times. There were only so many flights to be made to the country nowadays, despite the way that things had opened up, the new world with which they were exposed to, all at once.
“Hey there, stranger,” a crackling tone within her voice, a laugh that picked up at the edges, as her tool kit was set down upon the leaning slant of a desk that they had set up by the window, its curtains DRAWN TIGHT. “Been a while since I last heard from you. Figured you were teaching on me with another technician, and I swear, it broke my fuckin’ heart.” sarcasm drawls within her voice, opening the top of her kit, tools at hand. “So why don’t we start with you telling me what hurts.”

SINCE THE END, SINCE THE RESULTS OF THEIR BATTLE WITH THANOS & THE BLIP FIX, TONI WAS HIS HELP. he said she was his right hand man — well, left hand man, rather. he was incredibly thankful that she was one person who could get to him rather quickly & is equipped with a vast knowledge of wakandan technology. if his arm happened to go awry, toni could be there in no time to help him out. that was a blessing, as flying to wakanda tended to be just a tedious task that was too time consuming for his liking.
the motel he’s set up in isn’t the best, but james was never one to complain about insignificant things like that. right now he’d just like his arm to stop malfunctioning & cooperate like it should. he sighs, sitting on the edge of the bed with the vibranium out of commission. hopes are high that toni can quickly get him up & working again, but it wouldn’t be so terrible just to see her face again. it’s been a while.
he nearly goes into automatic defense mode as the door slowly swings open until he sees the bright, vibrant pink in her hair & realizes that it’s toni & not a threat at all. she looks lovely as ever, prompting a small upturn of stubble covered mouth corners. the first words out of her mouth are teasing, but an unintentional reality check he needed — he hadn’t stayed in contact much, which was quite shit, but his mind was here, there & everywhere but where it was supposed to be these days.
grinning, he stands & approaches her at the table, pointing to the dark shade of vibranium crafted into his left arm. ❛ can’t get the damn thing to work, ❜ his tone turns soft, almost ashamed as he explains what could’ve possibly caused the malfunction. ❛ i might’ve... accidentally touched one of natasha’s widow bites laying around... ❜ truth be told — he missed her as much as anyone did, but it was stupid to play with technology he wasn’t familiar with, especially damn well knowing it had already immobilized his arm once.
turning his attention up to her, he takes a seat at the table, lugging his left arm up onto the table with the aide of his right. ❛ & for the record? i could never find another tech like you, ❜ there was that signature james barnes charm. ❛ so don’t worry your pretty little head. ❜
