1. Tame Impala – Currents 

It’s the rare disc that I listen to and avoid hitting “skip” to the next track.  Solid all the way through, and the production is outstanding.  This is to me in no way similar to his first disc, but after listening to it over and over, who cares, really?

2. Beirut – No No No 

Another beautiful album in what is becoming a series of great releases from Beirut.  They manage to make those songs that are full of elements that get stuck in your head, but not in any kind of predictable way.

3. The Bright Light Social Hour – Space Is Still The Place 

I started listening to this album when we were given a “suggested track” that I didn’t really feel fit on its own.  I decided to listen to it all the way through and am glad I did – take these songs out of the context of the full album and they don’t sound right.  But, if you listen to this start to finish you’ll hear some emerge and realize that the whole album is like what good 70’s prog-rock albums used to sound like.

4. Jason Isbell – Something More Than Free 

Full of songs that establish his place as one of the best songwriters of our generation.  When I listen to it in the car, it’s almost like he’s sitting next to me catching me up on how his life is going. Heck of a nice guy, too (in real life).

5. David Wax Museum – Guesthouse 

You won’t be bored. It might just be a testament to the fact that I listen to so much mediocre music each year that this disc stuck out.  Where I first thought that some of it was too unusual for multiple listens, I find myself going back to it again and again.  Hope you do, too.

6. The Bottle Rockets – South Broadway Athletic Club

One of the most overlooked bands of the last 25 years put out a disc that should not be overlooked.  They’re coming to Charlottesville in February – go see them, but get this disc before you do so you can sing along.

7. City and Colour – If I Should Go Before You 

Dallas Green has one of the best voices in music and has been consistently writing some of the best songs in the past 10 years. In a word, beautiful.

8. Boxed In – Boxed In 

One of my favorite new music discoveries of 2015, “Mystery” hooked me, and the rest of the disc grows better with each listen.

9. Foals – What Went Down 

A band and a disc that truly fills your speakers with sound and will have you reaching for the volume knob to turn it up LOUD.

10. Wolf Alice – My Love Is Cool
