fiancé. the mention of peeta's got her hackles up again. defensive. her gaze flickered away from the tall, pretty blonde to find him. he wasn't far. a few paces and she could press her hand to his shoulder. remind herself that he's real, he's alive, he's here. a contradiction she far too aware of considering the cameras and eyes never seemed to peel away from them and their little fairy-tale. everything about them was fabricated, drenched in forgery and fake smiles. but underneath the surface, the thought of anyone close to peeta, close enough to harm a single hair on his delicate head, made her heart race. a nightmare painted as some pretty, paltry daydream. engagements. star-crossed lovers. her jaw set, teeth set on edge as she tried her hand at being social instead of a feral animal caught in a corner. "oh? lovely?" peeta's eyes caught hers briefly and she managed a semblance of a smile, the tension finally fading from her shoulders. her attention snapped back to cashmere. fingertips worried over the edge of her shirt's hem, something to concentrate all the nervous energy. "big shoes to fill.. what did you talk about?"
